1 Waalttoori

1 By the mount

1 In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. By the Mount,

2 Wakitabin mastoorin

2 And [by] a Book inscribed

2 And a Scripture inscribed

3 Fee raqqin manshoorin

3 In parchment spread open

3 On fine parchment unrolled,

4 Waalbayti almaAAmoori

4 And [by] the frequented House

4 And the House frequented,

5 Waalssaqfi almarfooAAi

5 And [by] the heaven raised high

5 And the roof exalted,

6 Waalbahri almasjoori

6 And [by] the sea filled [with fire],

6 And the sea kept filled,

7 Inna AAathaba rabbika lawaqiAAun

7 Indeed, the punishment of your Lord will occur.

7 Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass;

8 Ma lahu min dafiAAin

8 Of it there is no preventer.

8 There is none that can ward it off.

9 Yawma tamooru alssamao mawran

9 On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion

9 On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving,

10 Wataseeru aljibalu sayran

10 And the mountains will pass on, departing -

10 And the mountains move away with (awful) movement,

11 Fawaylun yawmaithin lilmukaththibeena

11 Then woe, that Day, to the deniers,

11 Then woe that day unto the deniers

12 Allatheena hum fee khawdin yalAAaboona

12 Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves.

12 Who play in talk of grave matters;

13 Yawma yudaAAAAoona ila nari jahannama daAAAAan

13 The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say],

13 The day when they are thrust with a (disdainful) thrust, into the fire of hell

14 Hathihi alnnaru allatee kuntum biha tukaththiboona

14 "This is the Fire which you used to deny.

14 (And it is said unto them): This is the Fire which ye were wont to deny.

15 Afasihrun hatha am antum la tubsiroona

15 Then is this magic, or do you not see?

15 Is this magic, or do ye not see ?

16 Islawha faisbiroo aw la tasbiroo sawaon AAalaykum innama tujzawna ma kuntum taAAmaloona

16 [Enter to] burn therein; then be patient or impatient - it is all the same for you. You are only being recompensed [for] what you used to do."

16 Endure the heat thereof, and whether ye are patient of it or impatient of it is all one for you. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do.

17 Inna almuttaqeena fee jannatin wanaAAeemin

17 Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and pleasure,

17 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight,

18 Fakiheena bima atahum rabbuhum wawaqahum rabbuhum AAathaba aljaheemi

18 Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire.

18 Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell - fire.

19 Kuloo waishraboo haneean bima kuntum taAAmaloona

19 [They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do."

19 (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do,

20 Muttakieena AAala sururin masfoofatin wazawwajnahum bihoorin AAeenin

20 They will be reclining on thrones lined up, and We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes.

20 Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes.

21 Waallatheena amanoo waittabaAAathum thurriyyatuhum bieemanin alhaqna bihim thurriyyatahum wama alatnahum min AAamalihim min shayin kullu imriin bima kasaba raheenun

21 And those who believed and whose descendants followed them in faith - We will join with them their descendants, and We will not deprive them of anything of their deeds. Every person, for what he earned, is retained.

21 And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned.

22 Waamdadnahum bifakihatin walahmin mimma yashtahoona

22 And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire.

22 And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire.

23 YatanazaAAoona feeha kasan la laghwun feeha wala tatheemun

23 They will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin.

23 There they pass from hand to hand a cup wherein is neither vanity nor cause of sin.

24 Wayatoofu AAalayhim ghilmanun lahum kaannahum luluon maknoonun

24 There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well - protected.

24 And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls.

25 Waaqbala baAAduhum AAala baAAdin yatasaaloona

25 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other.

25 And some of them draw near unto others, questioning,

26 Qaloo inna kunna qablu fee ahlina mushfiqeena

26 They will say, "Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful [of displeasing Allah].

26 Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious;

27 Famanna Allahu AAalayna wawaqana AAathaba alssamoomi

27 So Allah conferred favor upon us and protected us from the punishment of the Scorching Fire.

27 But Allah hath been gracious unto us and hath preserved us from the torment of the breath of Fire.

28 Inna kunna min qablu nadAAoohu innahu huwa albarru alrraheemu

28 Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful."

28 Lo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful.

29 Fathakkir fama anta biniAAmati rabbika bikahin wala majnoonin

29 So remind [O Muhammad], for you are not, by the favor of your Lord, a soothsayer or a madman.

29 Therefor warn (men, O Muhammad). By the grace of Allah thou art neither soothsayer nor madman.

30 Am yaqooloona shaAAirun natarabbasu bihi rayba almanooni

30 Or do they say [of you], "A poet for whom we await a misfortune of time?"

30 Or say they: (he is) a poet, (one) for whom we may expect the accident of time ?

31 Qul tarabbasoo fainnee maAAakum mina almutarabbiseena

31 Say, "Wait, for indeed I am, with you, among the waiters."

31 Say (unto them): Except (your fill)! Lo! I am with you among the expectant.

32 Am tamuruhum ahlamuhum bihatha am hum qawmun taghoona

32 Or do their minds command them to [say] this, or are they a transgressing people?

32 Do their minds command them to do this, or are they an outrageous folk ?

33 Am yaqooloona taqawwalahu bal la yuminoona

33 Or do they say, "He has made it up"? Rather, they do not believe.

33 Or say they: He hath invented it ? Nay, but they will not believe!

34 Falyatoo bihadeethin mithlihi in kanoo sadiqeena

34 Then let them produce a statement like it, if they should be truthful.

34 Then let them produce speech the like thereof, if they are truthful.

35 Am khuliqoo min ghayri shayin am humu alkhaliqoona

35 Or were they created by nothing, or were they the creators [of themselves]?

35 Or were they created out of naught ? Or are they the creators ?

36 Am khalaqoo alssamawati waalarda bal la yooqinoona

36 Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Rather, they are not certain.

36 Or did they create the heavens and the earth ? Nay, but they are sure of nothing!

37 Am AAindahum khazainu rabbika am humu almusaytiroona

37 Or have they the depositories [containing the provision] of your Lord? Or are they the controllers [of them]?

37 Or do they own the treasures of thy Lord ? Or have they been given charge (thereof) ?

38 Am lahum sullamun yastamiAAoona feehi falyati mustamiAAuhum bisultanin mubeenin

38 Or have they a stairway [into the heaven] upon which they listen? Then let their listener produce a clear authority.

38 Or have they any stairway (unto heaven) by means of which they overhear (decrees). Then let their listener produce some warrant manifest!

39 Am lahu albanatu walakumu albanoona

39 Or has He daughters while you have sons?

39 Or hath He daughters whereas ye have sons ?

40 Am tasaluhum ajran fahum min maghramin muthqaloona

40 Or do you, [O Muhammad], ask of them a payment, so they are by debt burdened down?

40 Or askest thou (Muhammad) a fee from them so that they are plunged in debt ?

41 Am AAindahumu alghaybu fahum yaktuboona

41 Or have they [knowledge of] the unseen, so they write [it] down?

41 Or possess they the Unseen so that they can write (it) down ?

42 Am yureedoona kaydan faallatheena kafaroo humu almakeedoona

42 Or do they intend a plan? But those who disbelieve - they are the object of a plan.

42 Or seek they to ensnare (the messenger) ? But those who disbelieve, they are the ensnared!

43 Am lahum ilahun ghayru Allahi subhana Allahi AAamma yushrikoona

43 Or have they a deity other than Allah? Exalted is Allah above whatever they associate with Him.

43 Or have they any god beside Allah ? Glorified be Allah from all that they ascribe as partner (unto Him)!

44 Wain yaraw kisfan mina alssamai saqitan yaqooloo sahabun markoomun

44 And if they were to see a fragment from the sky falling, they would say, "[It is merely] clouds heaped up."

44 And if they were to see a fragment of the heaven falling, they would say: A heap of clouds.

45 Fatharhum hatta yulaqoo yawmahumu allathee feehi yusAAaqoona

45 So leave them until they meet their Day in which they will be struck insensible -

45 Then let them be (O Muhammad), till they meet their day, in which they will be thunder - stricken,

46 Yawma la yughnee AAanhum kayduhum shayan wala hum yunsaroona

46 The Day their plan will not avail them at all, nor will they be helped.

46 A day in which their guile will naught avail them, nor will they be helped.

47 Wainna lillatheena thalamoo AAathaban doona thalika walakinna aktharahum la yaAAlamoona

47 And indeed, for those who have wronged is a punishment before that, but most of them do not know.

47 And verily, for those who do wrong, there is a punishment beyond that. But most of them know not.

48 Waisbir lihukmi rabbika fainnaka biaAAyunina wasabbih bihamdi rabbika heena taqoomu

48 And be patient, [O Muhammad], for the decision of your Lord, for indeed, you are in Our eyes. And exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord when you arise.

48 So wait patiently (O Muhammad) for thy Lord's decree, for surely thou art in Our sight; and hymn the praise of thy Lord when thou uprisest,

49 Wamina allayli fasabbihhu waidbara alnnujoomi

49 And in a part of the night exalt Him and after [the setting of] the stars.

49 And in the night - time also hymn His praise, and at the setting of the stars.
