1 The Inevitable Reality -

1 The Sure Reality!

1 In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. The Reality!

2 What is the Inevitable Reality?

2 What is the Sure Reality?

2 What is the Reality ?

3 And what can make you know what is the Inevitable Reality?

3 And what will make thee realise what the Sure Reality is?

3 Ah, what will convey unto thee what the reality is!

4 Thamud and 'Aad denied the Striking Calamity.

4 The Thamud and the 'Ad People (branded) as false the Stunning Calamity!

4 (The tribes of) Thamud and A'ad disbelieved in the judgment to come.

5 So as for Thamud, they were destroyed by the overpowering [blast].

5 But the Thamud, - they were destroyed by a terrible Storm of thunder and lightning!

5 As for Thamud, they were destroyed by the lightning.

6 And as for 'Aad, they were destroyed by a screaming, violent wind

6 And the 'Ad, they were destroyed by a furious Wind, exceedingly violent;

6 And as for A'ad, they were destroyed by a fierce roaring wind,

7 Which Allah imposed upon them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so you would see the people therein fallen as if they were hollow trunks of palm trees.

7 He made it rage against them seven nights and eight days in succession: so that thou couldst see the (whole) people lying prostrate in its (path), as they had been roots of hollow palm - trees tumbled down!

7 Which He imposed on them for seven long nights and eight long days so that thou mightest have seen men lying overthrown, as they were hollow trunks of palm - trees.

8 Then do you see of them any remains?

8 Then seest thou any of them left surviving?

8 Canst thou (O Muhammad) see any remnant of them ?

9 And there came Pharaoh and those before him and the overturned cities with sin.

9 And Pharaoh, and those before him, and the Cities Overthrown, committed habitual Sin.

9 And Pharaoh and those before him, and the communities that were destroyed, brought error,

10 And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, so He seized them with a seizure exceeding [in severity].

10 And disobeyed (each) the messenger of their Lord; so He punished them with an abundant Penalty.

10 And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, therefor did He grip them with a tightening grip.

11 Indeed, when the water overflowed, We carried your ancestors in the sailing ship

11 We, when the water (of Noah's Flood) overflowed beyond its limits, carried you (mankind), in the floating (Ark),

11 Lo! when the waters rose, We carried you upon the ship

12 That We might make it for you a reminder and [that] a conscious ear would be conscious of it.

12 That We might make it a Message unto you, and that ears (that should hear the tale and) retain its memory should bear its (lessons) in remembrance.

12 That We might make it a memorial for you, and that remembering ears (that heard the story) might remember.

13 Then when the Horn is blown with one blast

13 Then, when one blast is sounded on the Trumpet,

13 And when the trumpet shall sound one blast

14 And the earth and the mountains are lifted and leveled with one blow -

14 And the earth is moved, and its mountains, and they are crushed to powder at one stroke, -

14 And the earth with the mountains shall be lifted up and crushed with one crash,

15 Then on that Day, the Resurrection will occur,

15 On that Day shall the (Great) Event come to pass.

15 Then, on that day will the Event befall.

16 And the heaven will split [open], for that Day it is infirm.

16 And the sky will be rent asunder, for it will that Day be flimsy,

16 And the heaven will split asunder, for that day it will be frail.

17 And the angels are at its edges. And there will bear the Throne of your Lord above them, that Day, eight [of them].

17 And the angels will be on its sides, and eight will, that Day, bear the Throne of thy Lord above them.

17 And the angels will be on the sides thereof, and eight will uphold the Throne of thy Lord that day, above them.

18 That Day, you will be exhibited [for judgement]; not hidden among you is anything concealed.

18 That Day shall ye be brought to Judgment: not an act of yours that ye hide will be hidden.

18 On that day ye will be exposed; not a secret of you will be hidden.

19 So as for he who is given his record in his right hand, he will say, "Here, read my record!

19 Then he that will be given his Record in his right hand will say: "Ah here! Read ye my Record!

19 Then, as for him who is given his record in his right hand, he will say: Take, read my book!

20 Indeed, I was certain that I would be meeting my account."

20 "I did really understand that my Account would (One Day) reach me!"

20 Surely I knew that I should have to meet my reckoning.

21 So he will be in a pleasant life -

21 And he will be in a life of Bliss,

21 Then he will be in blissful state

22 In an elevated garden,

22 In a Garden on high,

22 In a high garden

23 Its [fruit] to be picked hanging near.

23 The Fruits whereof (will hang in bunches) low and near.

23 Whereof the clusters are in easy reach.

24 [They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you put forth in the days past."

24 "Eat ye and drink ye, with full satisfaction; because of the (good) that ye sent before you, in the days that are gone!"

24 (And it will be said unto those therein): Eat and drink at ease for that which ye sent on before you in past days.

25 But as for he who is given his record in his left hand, he will say, "Oh, I wish I had not been given my record

25 And he that will be given his Record in his left hand, will say: "Ah! Would that my Record had not been given to me!

25 But as for him who is given his record in his left hand, he will say: Oh, would that I had not been given my book

26 And had not known what is my account.

26 "And that I had never realised how my account (stood)!

26 And knew not what my reckoning!

27 I wish my death had been the decisive one.

27 "Ah! Would that (Death) had made an end of me!

27 Oh, would that it had been death!

28 My wealth has not availed me.

28 "Of no profit to me has been my wealth!

28 My wealth hath not availed me,

29 Gone from me is my authority."

29 "My power has perished from me!"...

29 My power hath gone from me.

30 [Allah will say], "Seize him and shackle him.

30 (The stern command will say): "Seize ye him, and bind ye him,

30 (It will be said): Take him and fetter him

31 Then into Hellfire drive him.

31 "And burn ye him in the Blazing Fire.

31 And then expose him to hell - fire

32 Then into a chain whose length is seventy cubits insert him."

32 "Further, make him march in a chain, whereof the length is seventy cubits!

32 And then insert him in a chain whereof the length is seventy cubits.

33 Indeed, he did not used to believe in Allah, the Most Great,

33 "This was he that would not believe in Allah Most High.

33 Lo! He used not to believe in Allah the Tremendous,

34 Nor did he encourage the feeding of the poor.

34 "And would not encourage the feeding of the indigent!

34 And urged not on the feeding of the wretched.

35 So there is not for him here this Day any devoted friend

35 "So no friend hath he here this Day.

35 Therefor hath he no lover here this day,

36 Nor any food except from the discharge of wounds;

36 "Nor hath he any food except the corruption from the washing of wounds,

36 Nor any food save filth

37 None will eat it except the sinners.

37 "Which none do eat but those in sin."

37 Which none but sinners eat.

38 So I swear by what you see

38 So I do call to witness what ye see,

38 But nay! I swear by all that ye see

39 And what you do not see

39 And what ye see not,

39 And all that ye see not

40 [That] indeed, the Qur'an is the word of a noble Messenger.

40 That this is verily the word of an honoured messenger;

40 That it is indeed the speech of an illustrious messenger.

41 And it is not the word of a poet; little do you believe.

41 It is not the word of a poet: little it is ye believe!

41 It is not poet's speech - little is it that ye believe!

42 Nor the word of a soothsayer; little do you remember.

42 Nor is it the word of a soothsayer: little admonition it is ye receive.

42 Nor diviner's speech - little is it that ye remember!

43 [It is] a revelation from the Lord of the worlds.

43 (This is) a Message sent down from the Lord of the Worlds.

43 It is a revelation from the Lord of the Worlds.

44 And if Muhammad had made up about Us some [false] sayings,

44 And if the messenger were to invent any sayings in Our name,

44 And if he had invented false sayings concerning Us,

45 We would have seized him by the right hand;

45 We should certainly seize him by his right hand,

45 We assuredly had taken him by the right hand

46 Then We would have cut from him the aorta.

46 And We should certainly then cut off the artery of his heart:

46 And then severed his life - artery,

47 And there is no one of you who could prevent [Us] from him.

47 Nor could any of you withhold him (from Our wrath).

47 And not one of you could have held Us off from him.

48 And indeed, the Qur'an is a reminder for the righteous.

48 But verily this is a Message for the Allah - fearing.

48 And lo! it is a warrant unto those who ward off (evil).

49 And indeed, We know that among you are deniers.

49 And We certainly know that there are amongst you those that reject (it).

49 And lo! We know that some among you will deny (it).

50 And indeed, it will be [a cause of] regret upon the disbelievers.

50 But truly (Revelation) is a cause of sorrow for the Unbelievers.

50 And lo! it is indeed an anguish for the disbelievers.

51 And indeed, it is the truth of certainty.

51 But verily it is Truth of assured certainty.

51 And lo! it is absolute truth.

52 So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great.

52 So glorify the name of thy Lord Most High.

52 So glorify the name of thy Tremendous Lord.
