1 In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. By the heaven, holding mansions of the stars,

Transliteration

1 Waalssamai thati alburooji

Saheeh International

1 By the sky containing great stars

Pickthall

2 And by the Promised Day.

Transliteration

2 Waalyawmi almawAAoodi

Saheeh International

2 And [by] the promised Day

Pickthall

3 And by the witness and that whereunto he beareth testimony,

Transliteration

3 Washahidin wamashhoodin

Saheeh International

3 And [by] the witness and what is witnessed,

4 (Self - )destroyed were the owners of the ditch

Transliteration

4 Qutila ashabu alukhdoodi

Saheeh International

4 Cursed were the companions of the trench

Pickthall

5 Of the fuel - fed fire,

Transliteration

5 Alnnari thati alwaqoodi

Saheeh International

5 [Containing] the fire full of fuel,

Pickthall

6 When they sat by it,

Transliteration

6 Ith hum AAalayha quAAoodun

Saheeh International

6 When they were sitting near it

Pickthall

7 And were themselves the witnesses of what they did to the believers.

Transliteration

7 Wahum AAala ma yafAAaloona bialmumineena shuhoodun

Saheeh International

7 And they, to what they were doing against the believers, were witnesses.

Pickthall

8 They had naught against them save that they believed in Allah, the Mighty, the Owner of Praise,

Transliteration

8 Wama naqamoo minhum illa an yuminoo biAllahi alAAazeezi alhameedi

Saheeh International

8 And they resented them not except because they believed in Allah, the Exalted in Might, the Praiseworthy,

Pickthall

9 Him unto Whom belongeth the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth; and Allah is of all things the Witness.

Transliteration

9 Allathee lahu mulku alssamawati waalardi waAllahu AAala kulli shayin shaheedun

Saheeh International

9 To whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. And Allah, over all things, is Witness.

Pickthall

10 Lo! they who persecute believing men and believing women and repent not, theirs verily will be the doom of hell, and theirs the doom of burning.

Transliteration

10 Inna allatheena fatanoo almumineena waalmuminati thumma lam yatooboo falahum AAathabu jahannama walahum AAathabu alhareeqi

Saheeh International

10 Indeed, those who have tortured the believing men and believing women and then have not repented will have the punishment of Hell, and they will have the punishment of the Burning Fire.

Pickthall

11 Lo! those who believe and do good works, theirs will be Gardens underneath which rivers flow. That is the Great Success.

Transliteration

11 Inna allatheena amanoo waAAamiloo alssalihati lahum jannatun tajree min tahtiha alanharu thalika alfawzu alkabeeru

Saheeh International

11 Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds will have gardens beneath which rivers flow. That is the great attainment.

Pickthall

12 Lo! the punishment of thy Lord is stern.

Transliteration

12 Inna batsha rabbika lashadeedun

Saheeh International

12 Indeed, the vengeance of your Lord is severe.

Pickthall

13 Lo! He it is Who produceth, then reproduceth,

Transliteration

13 Innahu huwa yubdio wayuAAeedu

Saheeh International

13 Indeed, it is He who originates [creation] and repeats.

Pickthall

14 And He is the Forgiving, the Loving,

Transliteration

14 Wahuwa alghafooru alwadoodu

Saheeh International

14 And He is the Forgiving, the Affectionate,

Pickthall

15 Lord of the Throne of Glory,

Transliteration

15 Thoo alAAarshi almajeedi

Saheeh International

15 Honorable Owner of the Throne,

Pickthall

16 Doer of what He will.

Transliteration

16 FaAAAAalun lima yureedu

Saheeh International

16 Effecter of what He intends.

Pickthall

17 Hath there come unto thee the story of the hosts

Transliteration

17 Hal ataka hadeethu aljunoodi

Saheeh International

17 Has there reached you the story of the soldiers -

Pickthall

18 Of Pharaoh and (the tribe of) Thamud ?

Transliteration

18 FirAAawna wathamooda

Saheeh International

18 [Those of] Pharaoh and Thamud?

Pickthall

19 Nay, but those who disbelieve live in denial

Transliteration

19 Bali allatheena kafaroo fee taktheebin

Saheeh International

19 But they who disbelieve are in [persistent] denial,

Pickthall

20 And Allah, all unseen, surroundeth them.

Transliteration

20 WaAllahu min waraihim muheetun

Saheeh International

20 While Allah encompasses them from behind.

Pickthall

21 Nay, but it is a glorious Qur'an.

Transliteration

21 Bal huwa quranun majeedun

Saheeh International

21 But this is an honored Qur'an

Pickthall

22 On a guarded tablet.

Transliteration

22 Fee lawhin mahfoothin

Saheeh International

22 [Inscribed] in a Preserved Slate.
