In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. He frowned and turned away
Er blickte düster und kehrte sich ab,
He frowned and turned (his) back,
Chapter 80, 42 verses
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. He frowned and turned away
Er blickte düster und kehrte sich ab,
He frowned and turned (his) back,
Because the blind man came unto him.
weil der Blinde zu ihm kam.
Because there came to him the blind man.
What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace)
Was läßt dich wissen, vielleicht läutert er sich
And what would make you know that he would purify himself,
Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him ?
Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him?
As for him who thinketh himself independent,
As for him who considers himself free from need (of you),
Unto him thou payest regard.
so widmest du dich ihm,
To him do you address yourself.
Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace).
And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself
But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose
And as to him who comes to you striving hard,
And hath fear,
und dabei gottesfürchtig ist,
And he fears,
From him thou art distracted.
von dem läßt du dich ablenken.
From him will you divert yourself.
Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment,
Keineswegs! Gewiß, es ist eine Erinnerung.
Nay! surely it is an admonishment.
So let whosoever will pay heed to it,
Wer nun will, gedenkt seiner.
So let him who pleases mind it.
On honoured leaves
(Er steht) auf in Ehren gehaltenen Blättern,
In honored books,
Exalted, purified,
erhöhten und rein gehaltenen,
Exalted, purified,
(Set down) by scribes
durch die Hände von Entsandten,
In the hands of scribes
Noble and righteous.
edlen, frommen.
Noble, virtuous.
Man is (self - )destroyed: how ungrateful!
Tod dem Menschen, wie undankbar er ist!
Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he!
From what thing doth He create him ?
Woraus hat Er ihn erschaffen?
Of what thing did He create him?
From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him,
Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure,
Then maketh the way easy for him,
Den Weg hierauf macht Er ihm leicht.
Then (as for) the way - - He has made it easy (for him)
Then causeth him to die, and burieth him;
Hierauf läßt Er ihn sterben und bringt ihn dann ins Grab.
Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave,
Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life.
Hierauf, wenn Er will, läßt Er ihn auferstehen.
Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again.
Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him.
Keineswegs!
Nay; but he has not done what He bade him.
Let man consider his food:
Then let man look to his food,
How We pour water in showers
Wir gießen ja Güsse von Wasser,
That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance,
Then split the earth in clefts
Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder,
And cause the grain to grow therein
und lassen dann auf ihr Korn wachsen
Then We cause to grow therein the grain,
And grapes and green fodder
und Rebstöcke und Grünzeug
And grapes and clover,
And olive - trees and palm - trees
und Ölbäume und Palmen
And the olive and the palm,
And garden - closes of thick foliage
und Gärten mit dicken Bäumen
And thick gardens,
And fruits and grasses:
und Früchte und Futter,
And fruits and herbage
Provision for you and your cattle.
A provision for you and for your cattle.
But when the Shout cometh
Wenn dann der betäubende (Schrei) kommt,
But when the deafening cry comes,
On the day when a man fleeth from his brother
The day on which a man shall fly from his brother,
And his mother and his father
und seiner Mutter und seinem Vater
And his mother and his father,
And his wife and his children,
und seiner Gefährtin und seinen Söhnen
And his spouse and his son - -
Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others).
Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him.
On that day faces will be bright as dawn,
(Many) faces on that day shall be bright,
Laughing, rejoicing at good news;
lachen und sich freuen.
Laughing, joyous.
And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them,
And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust,
Veiled in darkness,
und sie werden von Dunkelheit bedeckt sein.
Darkness shall cover them.
Those are the disbelievers, the wicked.
Das sind die Ungläubigen und Sittenlosen.
These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked.
