Chapter 68, 52 verses
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. Nun. By the pen and that which they write (therewith),
আল্লাহর নামে শুরু করছি, পরম করুণাময় পরম দয়ালু; নূন। কলমের শপথ এবং তারা যা লিখে তারও।
Thou art not, for thy Lord's favour unto thee, a madman.
তোমার প্রতিপালকের অনুগ্রহে তুমি উন্মাদ নও।
And lo! thine verily will be a reward unfailing.
এবং নিশ্চয়ই তোমার জন্য রয়েছে এমন প্রতিদান, যা কখনো শেষ হবে না।
And lo! thou art of a tremendous nature.
তুমি অবশ্যই মহান চরিত্রে অধিষ্ঠিত।
And thou wilt see and they will see
অতএব অচিরেই তুমি দেখবে, এবং তারাও দেখবে,
Which of you is the demented.
তোমাদের মধ্যে কে বিভ্রান্ত।
Lo! thy Lord is Best Aware of him who strayeth from His way, and He is Best Aware of those who walk aright.
নিশ্চয়ই তোমার প্রতিপালকই সর্বাধিক জানেন কে তাঁর পথ থেকে বিচ্যুত হয়েছে, এবং তিনিই সর্বাধিক জানেন সৎপথপ্রাপ্তদের।
Therefor obey not thou the rejecters
অতএব তুমি অস্বীকারকারীদের অনুসরণ করো না।
Who would have had thee compromise, that they may compromise.
তারা চায়, যদি তুমি আপস করো, তবে তারাও আপস করবে।
Neither obey thou each feeble oath - monger,
আর তুমি অনুসরণ করো না প্রত্যেক অত্যাধিক শপথকারীর।
Detracter, spreader abroad of slanders,
নিন্দাকারী, কথা লাগিয়ে বেড়ানো ব্যক্তি,
Hinderer of the good, transgressor, malefactor
কল্যাণে বাধাদানকারী, সীমালঙ্ঘনকারী, পাপাচারী,
Greedy therewithal, intrusive.
কঠোরস্বভাব, তার উপর আবার বংশের দাবিদার।
It is because he is possessed of wealth and children
কারণ সে সম্পদ ও সন্তান-সন্ততির অধিকারী।
That, when Our revelations are recited unto him, he saith: Mere fables of the men of old.
যখন তার কাছে আমাদের আয়াতসমূহ আবৃত্তি করা হয়, সে বলে, "এগুলো পূর্ববর্তীদের কাহিনী।"
We shall brand him on the nose.
অচিরেই আমরা তার নাকের উপর চিহ্ন এঁকে দেব।
খুরতূম (الخرطوم): আক্ষরিক অর্থে এমন একটি শব্দ যা প্রাণীর শুঁড় বা থুতনিযুক্ত নাক/মুখের জন্যও ব্যবহৃত হয়। এখানে সম্ভবত অপমানসূচক হিসেবে ব্যবহার রয়েছে।
Lo! We have tried them as We tried the owners of the garden when they vowed that they would pluck its fruit next morning,
নিশ্চয়ই আমরা তাদেরকে পরীক্ষা করেছি, যেমন পরীক্ষা করেছিলাম বাগানের অধিকারীদের, যখন তারা শপথ করেছিল যে তারা অবশ্যই ভোরবেলায় তার ফল সংগ্রহ করবে।
And made no exception (for the Will of Allah);
এবং তারা কোনো ব্যতিক্রম রাখেনি।
আল্লাহ এখানে আমাদের উদাহরণ দিয়ে জানিয়েছেন বিবিধ কারণে বা আল্লাহ না চাইলে আমাদের প্রতিশ্রুত কাজটি আমাদের দ্বারা করা সম্ভব নাও হতে পারে; তাই কারো সাথে কোনো প্রতিজ্ঞা বা চুক্তি করার সময় "ইন শাহ আল্লাহ" বলা বা Force Majeure / Act of God Exception Clause / Option রাখা উত্তম। তবে মূল আরবীতে "ইন শাহ আল্লাহ" কথাটি উল্লেখ নেই।
এখান থেকে আমরা আরো একটি শিক্ষা পাই যে, খারাপ উদ্দেশ্য নিয়ে কিছু করার পরিকল্পনা করতে নেই।
Then a visitation from thy Lord came upon it while they slept
অতঃপর তারা যখন ঘুমিয়ে ছিল, তখন তোমার প্রতিপালকের পক্ষ থেকে তার উপর এক দুর্যোগ বয়ে গেল।
And in the morning it was as if plucked.
ফলে তা হয়ে গেল কাটা ক্ষেতের মতো।
And they cried out one unto another in the morning,
অতঃপর তারা ভোরবেলায় একে অপরকে ডাকল,
Saying: Run unto your field if ye would pluck (the fruit).
“যদি তোমরা ফল সংগ্রহ করতে চাও, তবে সকালেই তোমাদের ক্ষেতে চলে যাও।”
So they went off, saying one unto another in low tones:
অতঃপর তারা রওনা হলো, নিজেদের মধ্যে নিচু স্বরে কথা বলতে থাকলো,
No needy man shall enter it to - day against you.
“আজ যেন কোনো দরিদ্র সেখানে তোমাদের কাছে প্রবেশ করতে না পারে।”
They went betimes, strong in (this) purpose.
এবং তারা ভোরে রওনা হলো, দৃঢ় সংকল্প নিয়ে, নিজেদের সক্ষম মনে করে।
But when they saw it, they said: Lo! we are in error!
অতঃপর যখন তারা তা দেখল, তারা বলল, “নিশ্চয়ই আমরা পথ ভুল করেছি।”
Nay, but we are desolate!
“বরং আমরাই বঞ্চিত হয়েছি।”
The best among them said: Said I not unto you: Why glorify ye not (Allah) ?
তাদের মধ্যে মধ্যপন্থী ব্যক্তি বলল, “আমি কি তোমাদের বলিনি, কেন তোমরা পবিত্রতা ঘোষণা করো না?”
They said: Glorified be our Lord! Lo! we have been wrong - doers.
তারা বলল, “আমাদের প্রতিপালক পবিত্র। নিশ্চয়ই আমরাই ছিলাম অন্যায়কারী।”
Then some of them drew near unto others, self - reproaching.
অতঃপর তারা পরস্পরের দিকে ফিরে পরস্পরকে দোষারোপ করতে লাগল।
They said: Alas for us! In truth we were outrageous.
তারা বললো, “হায় আমাদের দুর্ভোগ! নিশ্চয়ই আমরা সীমালঙ্ঘনকারী ছিলাম।
It may be that our Lord will give us better than this in place thereof. Lo! we beseech our Lord.
হয়তো আমাদের প্রতিপালক এর পরিবর্তে আমাদেরকে তার চেয়ে উত্তম কিছু দেবেন। নিশ্চয়ই আমরা আমাদের প্রতিপালকের কাছেই প্রত্যাশী।”
Such was the punishment. And verily the punishment of the Hereafter is greater if they did but know.
এভাবেই শাস্তি হয়ে থাকে। আর পরকালের শাস্তি তো আরও বড়, যদি তারা জানত।
Lo! for those who keep from evil are gardens of bliss with their Lord.
নিশ্চয়ই মুত্তাকীদের জন্য তাদের প্রতিপালকের কাছে রয়েছে বিলাসবহুল বেহেস্ত।
Shall We then treat those who have surrendered as We treat the guilty ?
তবে কি আমরা মুসলিমদেরকে অপরাধীদের মতো গণ্য করব?
What aileth you ? How foolishly ye judge!
তোমাদের কী হয়েছে? তোমরা কীভাবে সিদ্ধান্ত নাও?
Or have ye a scripture wherein ye learn
নাকি তোমাদের কাছে এমন কোনো কিতাব রয়েছে, যা তোমরা অধ্যয়ন কর?
That ye shall indeed have all that ye choose ?
যাতে তোমাদের জন্য যা ইচ্ছা, তাই রয়েছে?
Or have ye a covenant on oath from Us that reacheth to the Day of Judgment, that yours shall be all that ye ordain ?
নাকি আমাদের ওপর তোমাদের জন্য কিয়ামতের দিন পর্যন্ত বলবৎ থাকবে—এমন কোনো দৃঢ় অঙ্গীকার রয়েছে, যাতে তোমরা যা নির্ধারণ কর, সেটিই তোমাদের জন্য থাকবে?
Ask them (O Muhammad) which of them will vouch for that!
তাদেরকে জিজ্ঞাসা কর, তাদের মধ্যে কে এর দায়িত্ব নিতে পারে?
Or have they other gods ? Then let them bring their other gods if they are truthful
নাকি তাদের কোনো শরীক রয়েছে? যদি তারা সত্যবাদী হয়ে থাকে, তবে তারা তাদের শরীকদের উপস্থিত করুক।
On the day when it befalleth in earnest, and they are ordered to prostrate themselves but are not able,
যেদিন পায়ের গোড়ালি উন্মোচিত হবে এবং তাদেরকে সিজদা করার জন্য ডাকা হবে, কিন্তু তারা সক্ষম হবে না।
With eyes downcast, abasement stupefying them. And they had been summoned to prostrate themselves while they were yet unhurt.
তাদের দৃষ্টি অবনত থাকবে, লাঞ্ছনা তাদের আচ্ছন্ন করবে। অথচ তাদেরকে সিজদার জন্য ডাকা হতো, যখন তারা সুস্থ-সক্ষম ছিল।
Leave Me (to deal) with those who give the lie to this pronouncement. We shall lead them on by steps from whence they know not.
অতএব, আমাকে এবং এই বাণীকে যে অস্বীকার করে তাকে ছেড়ে দাও। অচিরেই আমরা তাদেরকে এমনভাবে পাকড়াও করব, যা তারা উপলব্ধিও করতে পারবে না।
Yet I bear with them, for lo! My scheme is firm.
আর আমি তাদেরকে অবকাশ দিচ্ছি। নিশ্চয়ই আমার কৌশল অত্যন্ত দৃঢ়।
Or dost thou (Muhammad) ask a fee from them so that they are heavily taxed ?
নাকি তুমি তাদের কাছে কোনো প্রতিদান চাও, ফলে তারা ঋণের বোঝায় ভারাক্রান্ত?
Or is the Unseen theirs that they can write (thereof) ?
নাকি তাদের কাছে অদৃশ্যের জ্ঞান রয়েছে, তাই তারা তা লিখে রাখে?
But wait thou for thy Lord's decree, and be not like him of the fish, who cried out in despair.
অতএব তুমি তোমার প্রতিপালকের সিদ্ধান্তের জন্য ধৈর্য ধারণ কর এবং মাছের সঙ্গীর মতো হয়ো না, যখন সে আহ্বান করেছিল, আর সে ছিল গভীর দুঃখে আচ্ছন্ন।
Had it not been that favour from his Lord had reached him he surely had been cast into the wilderness while he was reprobate.
যদি না তার প্রতিপালকের পক্ষ থেকে অনুগ্রহ তার কাছে পৌঁছাত, তবে অবশ্যই সে উন্মুক্ত প্রান্তরে নিক্ষিপ্ত হতো, নিন্দিত অবস্থায়।
But his Lord chose him and placed him among the righteous.
অতঃপর তার প্রতিপালক তাকে মনোনীত করলেন এবং তাকে সৎকর্মশীলদের অন্তর্ভুক্ত করলেন।
And lo! those who disbelieve would fain disconcert thee with their eyes when they hear the Reminder, and they say: Lo! he is indeed mad;
আর যারা অবিশ্বাস করেছে, তারা যখন এই স্মারক শুনে, তখন তারা যেন তাদের দৃষ্টির দ্বারা তোমাকে পিছলিয়ে দিতে উদ্যত হয়। আর তারা বলে, “সে তো অবশ্যই একজন উন্মাদ।”
When it is naught else than a Reminder to creation.
অথচ এটি তো সমগ্র জগতের জন্য এক উপদেশ ছাড়া আর কিছু নয়।
