Al Muminun

1 Successful indeed are the believers,

1 Qad aflaha almuminoona

2 Who are humble in their prayers,

2 Allatheena hum fee salatihim khashiAAoona

3 And who keep aloof from what is vain,

3 Waallatheena hum AAani allaghwi muAAridoona

4 And who are givers of poor - rate,

4 Waallatheena hum lilzzakati faAAiloona

5 And who guard their private parts,

5 Waallatheena hum lifuroojihim hafithoona

6 Except before their mates or those whom their right hands possess, for they surely are not blameable,

6 Illa AAala azwajihim aw ma malakat aymanuhum fainnahum ghayru maloomeena

7 But whoever seeks to go beyond that, these are they that exceed the limits;

7 Famani ibtagha waraa thalika faolaika humu alAAadoona

8 And those who are keepers of their trusts and their covenant,

8 Waallatheena hum liamanatihim waAAahdihim raAAoona

9 And those who keep a guard on their prayers;

9 Waallatheena hum AAala salawatihim yuhafithoona

10 These are they who are the heirs,

10 Olaika humu alwarithoona

11 Who shall inherit the Paradise; they shall abide therein.

11 Allatheena yarithoona alfirdawsa hum feeha khalidoona

12 And certainly We created man of an extract of clay,

12 Walaqad khalaqna alinsana min sulalatin min teenin

13 Then We made him a small seed in a firm resting - place,

13 Thumma jaAAalnahu nutfatan fee qararin makeenin

14 Then We made the seed a clot, then We made the clot a lump of flesh, then We made (in) the lump of flesh bones, then We clothed the bones with flesh, then We caused it to grow into another creation, so blessed be Allah, the best of the creators.

14 Thumma khalaqna alnnutfata AAalaqatan fakhalaqna alAAalaqata mudghatan fakhalaqna almudghata AAithaman fakasawna alAAithama lahman thumma anshanahu khalqan akhara fatabaraka Allahu ahsanu alkhaliqeena

15 Then after that you will most surely die.

15 Thumma innakum baAAda thalika lamayyitoona

16 Then surely on the day of resurrection you shall be raised.

16 Thumma innakum yawma alqiyamati tubAAathoona

17 And certainly We made above you seven heavens; and never are We heedless of creation.

17 Walaqad khalaqna fawqakum sabAAa taraiqa wama kunna AAani alkhalqi ghafileena

18 And We send down water from the cloud according to a measure, then We cause it to settle in the earth, and most surely We are able to carry it away.

18 Waanzalna mina alssamai maan biqadarin faaskannahu fee alardi wainna AAala thahabin bihi laqadiroona

19 Then We cause to grow thereby gardens of palm trees and grapes for you; you have in them many fruits and from them do you eat;

19 Faanshana lakum bihi jannatin min nakheelin waaAAnabin lakum feeha fawakihu katheeratun waminha takuloona

20 And a tree that grows out of Mount Sinai which produces oil and a condiment for those who eat.

20 Washajaratan takhruju min toori saynaa tanbutu bialdduhni wasibghin lilakileena

21 And most surely there is a lesson for you in the cattle: We make you to drink of what is in their bellies, and you have in them many advantages and of them you eat,

21 Wainna lakum fee alanAAami laAAibratan nusqeekum mimma fee butooniha walakum feeha manafiAAu katheeratun waminha takuloona

22 And on them and on the ships you are borne.

22 WaAAalayha waAAala alfulki tuhmaloona

23 And certainly We sent Nuh to his people, and he said: O my people! serve Allah, you have no god other than Him; will you not then guard (against evil)?

23 Walaqad arsalna noohan ila qawmihi faqala ya qawmi oAAbudoo Allaha ma lakum min ilahin ghayruhu afala tattaqoona

24 And the chiefs of those who disbelieved from among his people said: He is nothing but a mortal like yourselves who desires that he may have superiority over you, and if Allah had pleased, He could certainly have sent down angels. We have not heard of this among our fathers of yore:

24 Faqala almalao allatheena kafaroo min qawmihi ma hatha illa basharun mithlukum yureedu an yatafaddala AAalaykum walaw shaa Allahu laanzala malaikatan ma samiAAna bihatha fee abaina alawwaleena

25 He is only a madman, so bear with him for a time.

25 In huwa illa rajulun bihi jinnatun fatarabbasoo bihi hatta heenin

26 He said: O my Lord! help me against their calling me a liar.

26 Qala rabbi onsurnee bima kaththabooni

27 So We revealed to him, saying: Make the ark before Our eyes and (according to) Our revelation; and when Our command is given and the valley overflows, take into it of every kind a pair, two, and your followers, except those among them against whom the word has gone forth, and do not speak to Me in respect of those who are unjust; surely they shall be drowned.

27 Faawhayna ilayhi ani isnaAAi alfulka biaAAyunina wawahyina faitha jaa amruna wafara alttannooru faosluk feeha min kullin zawjayni ithnayni waahlaka illa man sabaqa AAalayhi alqawlu minhum wala tukhatibnee fee allatheena thalamoo innahum mughraqoona

28 And when you are firmly seated, you and those with you, in the ark, say: All praise is due to Allah who delivered us from the unjust people:

28 Faitha istawayta anta waman maAAaka AAala alfulki faquli alhamdu lillahi allathee najjana mina alqawmi alththalimeena

29 And say: O my Lord! cause me to disembark a blessed alighting, and Thou art the best to cause to alight.

29 Waqul rabbi anzilnee munzalan mubarakan waanta khayru almunzileena

30 Most surely there are signs in this, and most surely We are ever trying (men).

30 Inna fee thalika laayatin wain kunna lamubtaleena

31 Then We raised up after them another generation.

31 Thumma anshana min baAAdihim qarnan akhareena

32 So We sent among them an apostle from among them, saying: Serve Allah, you have no god other than Him; will you not then guard (against evil)?

32 Faarsalna feehim rasoolan minhum ani oAAbudoo Allaha ma lakum min ilahin ghayruhu afala tattaqoona

33 And the chiefs of his people who disbelieved and called the meeting of the hereafter a lie, and whom We had given plenty to enjoy in this world's life, said: This is nothing but a mortal like yourselves, eating of what you eat from and drinking of what you drink.

33 Waqala almalao min qawmihi allatheena kafaroo wakaththaboo biliqai alakhirati waatrafnahum fee alhayati alddunya ma hatha illa basharun mithlukum yakulu mimma takuloona minhu wayashrabu mimma tashraboona

34 And if you obey a mortal like yourselves, then most surely you will be losers:

34 Walain ataAAtum basharan mithlakum innakum ithan lakhasiroona

35 What! does he threaten you that when you are dead and become dust and bones that you shall then be brought forth?

35 AyaAAidukum annakum itha mittum wakuntum turaban waAAithaman annakum mukhrajoona

36 Far, far is that which you are threatened with.

36 Hayhata hayhata lima tooAAadoona

37 There is naught but our life in this world; we die and we live and we shall not be raised again.

37 In hiya illa hayatuna alddunya namootu wanahya wama nahnu bimabAAootheena

38 He is naught but a man who has forged a lie against Allah, and we are not going to believe in him.

38 In huwa illa rajulun iftara AAala Allahi kathiban wama nahnu lahu bimumineena

39 He said: O my Lord! help me against their calling me a liar.

39 Qala rabbi onsurnee bima kaththabooni

40 He said: In a little while they will most certainly be repenting.

40 Qala AAamma qaleelin layusbihunna nadimeena

41 So the punishment overtook them in justice, and We made them as rubbish; so away with the unjust people.

41 Faakhathathumu alssayhatu bialhaqqi fajaAAalnahum ghuthaan fabuAAdan lilqawmi alththalimeena

42 Then We raised after them other generations.

42 Thumma anshana min baAAdihim quroonan akhareena

43 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it).

43 Ma tasbiqu min ommatin ajalaha wama yastakhiroona

44 Then We sent Our apostles one after another; whenever there came to a people their apostle, they called him a liar, so We made some of them follow others and We made them stories; so away with a people who do not believe!

44 Thumma arsalna rusulana tatra kulla ma jaa ommatan rasooluha kaththaboohu faatbaAAna baAAdahum baAAdan wajaAAalnahum ahadeetha fabuAAdan liqawmin la yuminoona

45 Then We sent Musa and his brother Haroun, with Our communications and a clear authority,

45 Thumma arsalna moosa waakhahu haroona biayatina wasultanin mubeenin

46 To Firon and his chiefs, but they behaved haughtily and they were an insolent people.

46 Ila firAAawna wamalaihi faistakbaroo wakanoo qawman AAaleena

47 And they said: What! shall we believe in two mortals like ourselves while their people serve us?

47 Faqaloo anuminu libasharayni mithlina waqawmuhuma lana AAabidoona

48 So they rejected them and became of those who were destroyed.

48 Fakaththaboohuma fakanoo mina almuhlakeena

49 And certainly We gave Musa the Book that they may follow a right direction.

49 Walaqad atayna moosa alkitaba laAAallahum yahtadoona

50 And We made the son of Marium and his mother a sign, and We gave them a shelter on a lofty ground having meadows and springs.

50 WajaAAalna ibna maryama waommahu ayatan waawaynahuma ila rabwatin thati qararin wamaAAeenin

51 O apostles! eat of the good things and do good; surely I know what you do.

51 Ya ayyuha alrrusulu kuloo mina alttayyibati waiAAmaloo salihan innee bima taAAmaloona AAaleemun

52 And surely this your religion is one religion and I am your Lord, therefore be careful (of your duty) to Me.

52 Wainna hathihi ommatukum ommatan wahidatan waana rabbukum faittaqooni

53 But they cut off their religion among themselves into sects, each part rejoicing in that which is with them.

53 FataqattaAAoo amrahum baynahum zuburan kullu hizbin bima ladayhim farihoona

54 Therefore leave them in their overwhelming ignorance till

54 Fatharhum fee ghamratihim hatta heenin

55 Do they think that by what We aid them with of wealth and children,

55 Ayahsaboona annama numidduhum bihi min malin wabaneena

56 We are hastening to them of good things? Nay, they do not perceive.

56 NusariAAu lahum fee alkhayrati bal la yashAAuroona

57 Surely they who from fear of their Lord are cautious,

57 Inna allatheena hum min khashyati rabbihim mushfiqoona

58 And those who believe in the communications of their Lord,

58 Waallatheena hum biayati rabbihim yuminoona

59 And those who do not associate (aught) with their Lord,

59 Waallatheena hum birabbihim la yushrikoona

60 And those who give what they give (in alms) while their hearts are full of fear that to their Lord they must return,

60 Waallatheena yutoona ma ataw waquloobuhum wajilatun annahum ila rabbihim rajiAAoona

61 These hasten to good things and they are foremost in (attaining) them.

61 Olaika yusariAAoona fee alkhayrati wahum laha sabiqoona

62 And We do not lay on any soul a burden except to the extent of its ability, and with Us is a book which speaks the truth, and they shall not be dealt with unjustly.

62 Wala nukallifu nafsan illa wusAAaha waladayna kitabun yantiqu bialhaqqi wahum la yuthlamoona

63 Nay, their hearts are in overwhelming ignorance with respect to it and they have besides this other deeds which they do.

63 Bal quloobuhum fee ghamratin min hatha walahum aAAmalun min dooni thalika hum laha AAamiloona

64 Until when We overtake those who lead easy lives among them with punishment, lo! they cry for succor.

64 Hatta itha akhathna mutrafeehim bialAAathabi itha hum yajaroona

65 Cry not for succor this day; surely you shall not be given help from Us.

65 La tajaroo alyawma innakum minna la tunsaroona

66 My communications were indeed recited to you, but you used to turn back on your heels,

66 Qad kanat ayatee tutla AAalaykum fakuntum AAala aAAqabikum tankisoona

67 In arrogance; talking nonsense about the Quran, and left him like one telling fables by night.

67 Mustakbireena bihi samiran tahjuroona

68 Is it then that they do not ponder over what is said, or is it that there has come to them that which did not come to their fathers of old?

68 Afalam yaddabbaroo alqawla am jaahum ma lam yati abaahumu alawwaleena

69 Or is it that they have not recognized their Apostle, so that they deny him?

69 Am lam yaAArifoo rasoolahum fahum lahu munkiroona

70 Or do they say: There is madness in him? Nay! he has brought them the truth, and most of them are averse from the truth.

70 Am yaqooloona bihi jinnatun bal jaahum bialhaqqi waaktharuhum lilhaqqi karihoona

71 And should the truth follow their low desires, surely the heavens and the earth and all those who are therein would have perished. Nay! We have brought to them their reminder, but from their reminder they turn aside.

71 Walawi ittabaAAa alhaqqu ahwaahum lafasadati alssamawatu waalardu waman feehinna bal ataynahum bithikrihim fahum AAan thikrihim muAAridoona

72 Or is it that you ask them a recompense? But the recompense of your Lord is best, and He is the best of those who provide sustenance.

72 Am tasaluhum kharjan fakharaju rabbika khayrun wahuwa khayru alrraziqeena

73 And most surely you invite them to a right way.

73 Wainnaka latadAAoohum ila siratin mustaqeemin

74 And most surely those who do not believe in the hereafter are deviating from the way.

74 Wainna allatheena la yuminoona bialakhirati AAani alssirati lanakiboona

75 And if We show mercy to them and remove the distress they have, they would persist in their inordinacy, blindly wandering on.

75 Walaw rahimnahum wakashafna ma bihim min durrin lalajjoo fee tughyanihim yaAAmahoona

76 And already We overtook them with chastisement, but they were not submissive to their Lord, nor do they humble themselves.

76 Walaqad akhathnahum bialAAathabi fama istakanoo lirabbihim wama yatadarraAAoona

77 Until when We open upon them a door of severe chastisement, lo! they are in despair at it.

77 Hatta itha fatahna AAalayhim baban tha AAathabin shadeedin itha hum feehi mublisoona

78 And He it is Who made for you the ears and the eyes and the hearts; little is it that you give thanks.

78 Wahuwa allathee anshaa lakumu alssamAAa waalabsara waalafidata qaleelan ma tashkuroona

79 And He it is Who multiplied you in the earth, and to Him you shall be gathered.

79 Wahuwa allathee tharaakum fee alardi wailayhi tuhsharoona

80 And He it is Who gives life and causes death, and (in) His (control) is the alternation of the night and the day; do you not then understand?

80 Wahuwa allathee yuhyee wayumeetu walahu ikhtilafu allayli waalnnahari afala taAAqiloona

81 Nay, they say the like of what the ancients said:

81 Bal qaloo mithla ma qala alawwaloona

82 They say: What! When we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be raised?

82 Qaloo aitha mitna wakunna turaban waAAithaman ainna lamabAAoothoona

83 Certainly we are promised this, and (so were) our fathers aforetime; this is naught but stories of those of old.

83 Laqad wuAAidna nahnu waabaona hatha min qablu in hatha illa asateeru alawwaleena

84 Say: Whose is the earth, and whoever is therein, if you know?

84 Qul limani alardu waman feeha in kuntum taAAlamoona

85 They will say: Allah's. Say: Will you not then mind?

85 Sayaqooloona lillahi qul afala tathakkaroona

86 Say: Who is the Lord of the seven heavens and the Lord of the mighty dominion?

86 Qul man rabbu alssamawati alssabAAi warabbu alAAarshi alAAatheemi

87 They will say: (This is) Allah's. Say: Will you not then guard (against evil)?

87 Sayaqooloona lillahi qul afala tattaqoona

88 Say: Who is it in Whose hand is the kingdom of all things and Who gives succor, but against Him Succor is not given, if you do but know?

88 Qul man biyadihi malakootu kulli shayin wahuwa yujeeru wala yujaru AAalayhi in kuntum taAAlamoona

89 They will say: (This is) Allah's. Say: From whence are you then deceived?

89 Sayaqooloona lillahi qul faanna tusharoona

90 Nay! We have brought to them the truth, and most surely they are liars.

90 Bal ataynahum bialhaqqi wainnahum lakathiboona

91 Never did Allah take to Himself a son, and never was there with him any (other) god - - in that case would each god have certainly taken away what he created, and some of them would certainly have overpowered others; glory be to Allah above what they describe!

91 Ma ittakhatha Allahu min waladin wama kana maAAahu min ilahin ithan lathahaba kullu ilahin bima khalaqa walaAAala baAAduhum AAala baAAdin subhana Allahi AAamma yasifoona

92 The Knower of the unseen and the seen, so may He be exalted above what they associate (with Him).

92 AAalimi alghaybi waalshshahadati fataAAala AAamma yushrikoona

93 Say: O my Lord! if Thou shouldst make me see what they are threatened with:

93 Qul rabbi imma turiyannee ma yooAAadoona

94 My Lord! then place me not with the unjust.

94 Rabbi fala tajAAalnee fee alqawmi alththalimeena

95 And most surely We are well able to make you see what We threaten them with.

95 Wainna AAala an nuriyaka ma naAAiduhum laqadiroona

96 Repel evil by what is best; We know best what they describe.

96 IdfaAA biallatee hiya ahsanu alssayyiata nahnu aAAlamu bima yasifoona

97 And say: O my Lord! I seek refuge in Thee from the evil suggestions of the Shaitans;

97 Waqul rabbi aAAoothu bika min hamazati alshshayateeni

98 And I seek refuge in Thee! O my Lord! from their presence.

98 WaaAAoothu bika rabbi an yahdurooni

99 Until when death overtakes one of them, he says: Send me back, my Lord, send me back;

99 Hatta itha jaa ahadahumu almawtu qala rabbi irjiAAooni

100 Haply I may do good in that which I have left. By no means! it is a (mere) word that he speaks; and before them is a barrier until the day they are raised.

100 LaAAallee aAAmalu salihan feema taraktu kalla innaha kalimatun huwa qailuha wamin waraihim barzakhun ila yawmi yubAAathoona

101 So when the trumpet is blown, there shall be no ties of relationship between them on that day, nor shall they ask of each other.

101 Faitha nufikha fee alssoori fala ansaba baynahum yawmaithin wala yatasaaloona

102 Then as for him whose good deeds are preponderant, these are the successful.

102 Faman thaqulat mawazeenuhu faolaika humu almuflihoona

103 And as for him whose good deeds are light, these are they who shall have lost their souls, abiding in hell

103 Waman khaffat mawazeenuhu faolaika allatheena khasiroo anfusahum fee jahannama khalidoona

104 The fire shall scorch their faces, and they therein shall be in severe affliction.

104 Talfahu wujoohahumu alnnaru wahum feeha kalihoona

105 Were not My communications recited to you? But you used to reject them.

105 Alam takun ayatee tutla AAalaykum fakuntum biha tukaththiboona

106 They shall say: O our Lord! our adversity overcame us and we were an erring people:

106 Qaloo rabbana ghalabat AAalayna shiqwatuna wakunna qawman dalleena

107 O our Lord! Take us out of it; then if we return (to evil) surely we shall be unjust.

107 Rabbana akhrijna minha fain AAudna fainna thalimoona

108 He shall say: Go away into it and speak not to Me;

108 Qala ikhsaoo feeha wala tukallimooni

109 Surely there was a party of My servants who said: O our Lord! we believe, so do Thou forgive us and have mercy on us, and Thou art the best of the Merciful ones.

109 Innahu kana fareequn min AAibadee yaqooloona rabbana amanna faighfir lana wairhamna waanta khayru alrrahimeena

110 But you took them for a mockery until they made you forget My remembrance and you used to laugh at them.

110 Faittakhathtumoohum sikhriyyan hatta ansawkum thikree wakuntum minhum tadhakoona

111 Surely I have rewarded them this day because they were patient, that they are the achievers.

111 Innee jazaytuhumu alyawma bima sabaroo annahum humu alfaizoona

112 He will say: How many years did you tarry in the earth?

112 Qala kam labithtum fee alardi AAadada sineena

113 They will say: We tarried a day or part of a day, but ask those who keep account.

113 Qaloo labithna yawman aw baAAda yawmin faisali alAAaddeena

114 He will say: You did tarry but a little - - had you but known (it):

114 Qala in labithtum illa qaleelan law annakum kuntum taAAlamoona

115 What! did you then think that We had created you in vain and that you shall not be returned to Us?

115 Afahasibtum annama khalaqnakum AAabathan waannakum ilayna la turjaAAoona

116 So exalted be Allah, the True King; no god is there but He, the Lord of the honorable dominion.

116 FataAAala Allahu almaliku alhaqqu la ilaha illa huwa rabbu alAAarshi alkareemi

117 And whoever invokes with Allah another god - - he has no proof of this - - his reckoning is only with his Lord; surely the unbelievers shall not be successful.

117 Waman yadAAu maAAa Allahi ilahan akhara la burhana lahu bihi fainnama hisabuhu AAinda rabbihi innahu la yuflihu alkafiroona

118 And say: O my Lord! forgive and have mercy, and Thou art the best of the Merciful ones.

118 Waqul rabbi ighfir wairham waanta khayru alrrahimeena
