1 When the heaven becomes cleft asunder,

1 Itha alssamao infatarat

1 In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. When the heaven is cleft asunder,

2 And when the stars become dispersed,

Transliteration

2 Waitha alkawakibu intatharat

2 When the planets are dispersed,

Shakir

3 And when the seas are made to flow forth,

Transliteration

3 Waitha albiharu fujjirat

3 When the seas are poured forth,

Shakir

4 And when the graves are laid open,

Transliteration

4 Waitha alqubooru buAAthirat

4 And the sepulchres are overturned,

Shakir

5 Every soul shall know what it has sent before and held back.

Transliteration

5 AAalimat nafsun ma qaddamat waakhkharat

Pickthall

5 A soul will know what it hath sent before (it) and what left behind.

Shakir

6 O man! what has beguiled you from your Lord, the Gracious one,

Transliteration

6 Ya ayyuha alinsanu ma gharraka birabbika alkareemi

6 O man! What hath made thee careless concerning thy Lord, the Bountiful,

Shakir

7 Who created you, then made you complete, then made you symmetrical?

Transliteration

7 Allathee khalaqaka fasawwaka faAAadalaka

7 Who created thee, then fashioned, then proportioned thee ?

Shakir

8 Into whatever form He pleased He constituted you.

Transliteration

8 Fee ayyi sooratin ma shaa rakkabaka

Pickthall

8 Into whatsoever form He will, He casteth thee.

Shakir

9 Nay! but you give the lie to the judgment day,

Transliteration

9 Kalla bal tukaththiboona bialddeeni

9 Nay, but ye deny the Judgment.

Shakir

10 And most surely there are keepers over you

Transliteration

10 Wainna AAalaykum lahafitheena

10 Lo! there are above you guardians,

Shakir

11 Honorable recorders,

Transliteration

11 Kiraman katibeena

Pickthall

11 Generous and recording,

Shakir

12 They know what you do.

Transliteration

12 YaAAlamoona ma tafAAaloona

Pickthall

12 Who know (all) that ye do.

Shakir

13 Most surely the righteous are in bliss,

Transliteration

13 Inna alabrara lafee naAAeemin

Pickthall

13 Lo! the righteous verily will be in delight.

Shakir

14 And most surely the wicked are in burning fire,

Transliteration

14 Wainna alfujjara lafee jaheemin

Pickthall

14 And lo! the wicked verily will be in hell;

Shakir

15 They shall enter it on the day of judgment.

Transliteration

15 Yaslawnaha yawma alddeeni

Pickthall

15 They will burn therein on the Day of Judgment,

Shakir

16 And they shall by no means be absent from it.

Transliteration

16 Wama hum AAanha bighaibeena

16 And will not be absent thence.

Shakir

17 And what will make you realize what the day of judgment is?

Transliteration

17 Wama adraka ma yawmu alddeeni

Pickthall

17 Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Day of Judgment is!

Shakir

18 Again, what will make you realize what the day of judgment is?

Transliteration

18 Thumma ma adraka ma yawmu alddeeni

Pickthall

18 Again, what will convey unto thee what the Day of Judgment is!

Shakir

19 The day on which no soul shall control anything for (another) soul; and the command on that day shall be entirely Allah's.

Transliteration

19 Yawma la tamliku nafsun linafsin shayan waalamru yawmaithin lillahi

Pickthall

19 A day on which no soul hath power at all for any (other) soul. The (absolute) command on that day is Allah's.
