1 I swear by the Mountain,

1 Waalttoori

Shakir

2 And the Book written

Transliteration

2 Wakitabin mastoorin

Shakir

3 In an outstretched fine parchment,

Transliteration

3 Fee raqqin manshoorin

Shakir

4 And the House (Kaaba) that is visited,

Transliteration

4 Waalbayti almaAAmoori

Shakir

5 And the elevated canopy

Transliteration

5 Waalssaqfi almarfooAAi

Shakir

6 And the swollen sea

Transliteration

6 Waalbahri almasjoori

Shakir

7 Most surely the punishment of your Lord will come to pass;

Transliteration

7 Inna AAathaba rabbika lawaqiAAun

Shakir

8 There shall be none to avert it;

Transliteration

8 Ma lahu min dafiAAin

Shakir

9 On the day when the heaven shall move from side to side

Transliteration

9 Yawma tamooru alssamao mawran

Shakir

10 And the mountains shall pass away passing away (altogether).

Transliteration

10 Wataseeru aljibalu sayran

Shakir

11 So woe on that day to those who reject (the truth),

Transliteration

11 Fawaylun yawmaithin lilmukaththibeena

Shakir

12 Those who sport entering into vain discourses.

Transliteration

12 Allatheena hum fee khawdin yalAAaboona

Shakir

13 The day on which they shall be driven away to the fire of hell with violence.

Transliteration

13 Yawma yudaAAAAoona ila nari jahannama daAAAAan

Shakir

14 This is the fire which you used to give the lie to.

Transliteration

14 Hathihi alnnaru allatee kuntum biha tukaththiboona

Shakir

15 Is it magic then or do you not see?

Transliteration

15 Afasihrun hatha am antum la tubsiroona

Shakir

16 Enter into it, then bear (it) patiently, or do not bear (it) patiently, it is the same to you; you shall be requited only (for) what you did.

Transliteration

16 Islawha faisbiroo aw la tasbiroo sawaon AAalaykum innama tujzawna ma kuntum taAAmaloona

Shakir

17 Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be in gardens and bliss

Transliteration

17 Inna almuttaqeena fee jannatin wanaAAeemin

Shakir

18 Rejoicing because of what their Lord gave them, and their Lord saved them from the punishment of the burning fire.

Transliteration

18 Fakiheena bima atahum rabbuhum wawaqahum rabbuhum AAathaba aljaheemi

Shakir

19 Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did,

Transliteration

19 Kuloo waishraboo haneean bima kuntum taAAmaloona

Shakir

20 Reclining on thrones set in lines, and We will unite them to large - eyed beautiful ones.

Transliteration

20 Muttakieena AAala sururin masfoofatin wazawwajnahum bihoorin AAeenin

Shakir

21 And (as for) those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will unite with them their offspring and We will not diminish to them aught of their work; every man is responsible for what he shall have wrought.

21 Waallatheena amanoo waittabaAAathum thurriyyatuhum bieemanin alhaqna bihim thurriyyatahum wama alatnahum min AAamalihim min shayin kullu imriin bima kasaba raheenun

Shakir

22 And We will aid them with fruit and flesh such as they desire.

Transliteration

22 Waamdadnahum bifakihatin walahmin mimma yashtahoona

Shakir

23 They shall pass therein from one to another a cup wherein there shall be nothing vain nor any sin.

Transliteration

23 YatanazaAAoona feeha kasan la laghwun feeha wala tatheemun

Shakir

24 And round them shall go boys of theirs as if they were hidden pearls.

Transliteration

24 Wayatoofu AAalayhim ghilmanun lahum kaannahum luluon maknoonun

Shakir

25 And some of them shall advance towards others questioning each other.

Transliteration

25 Waaqbala baAAduhum AAala baAAdin yatasaaloona

Shakir

26 Saying: Surely we feared before on account of our families:

Transliteration

26 Qaloo inna kunna qablu fee ahlina mushfiqeena

Shakir

27 But Allah has been gracious to us and He has saved us from the punishment of the hot wind:

Transliteration

27 Famanna Allahu AAalayna wawaqana AAathaba alssamoomi

Shakir

28 Surely we called upon Him before: Surely He is the Benign, the Merciful.

Transliteration

28 Inna kunna min qablu nadAAoohu innahu huwa albarru alrraheemu

Shakir

29 Therefore continue to remind, for by the grace of your Lord, you are not a soothsayer, or a madman.

Transliteration

29 Fathakkir fama anta biniAAmati rabbika bikahin wala majnoonin

Shakir

30 Or do they say: A poet, we wait for him the evil accidents of time.

Transliteration

30 Am yaqooloona shaAAirun natarabbasu bihi rayba almanooni

Shakir

31 Say: Wait, for surely I too with you am of those who wait.

Transliteration

31 Qul tarabbasoo fainnee maAAakum mina almutarabbiseena

Shakir

32 Nay! do their understandings bid them this? Or are they an inordinate people?

Transliteration

32 Am tamuruhum ahlamuhum bihatha am hum qawmun taghoona

Shakir

33 Or do they say: He has forged it. Nay! they do not believe.

Transliteration

33 Am yaqooloona taqawwalahu bal la yuminoona

Shakir

34 Then let them bring an announcement like it if they are truthful.

Transliteration

34 Falyatoo bihadeethin mithlihi in kanoo sadiqeena

Shakir

35 Or were they created without there being anything, or are they the creators?

Transliteration

35 Am khuliqoo min ghayri shayin am humu alkhaliqoona

Shakir

36 Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Nay! they have no certainty.

Transliteration

36 Am khalaqoo alssamawati waalarda bal la yooqinoona

Shakir

37 Or have they the treasures of your Lord with them? Or have they been set in absolute authority?

Transliteration

37 Am AAindahum khazainu rabbika am humu almusaytiroona

Shakir

38 Or have they the means by which they listen? Then let their listener bring a clear authority.

Transliteration

38 Am lahum sullamun yastamiAAoona feehi falyati mustamiAAuhum bisultanin mubeenin

Shakir

39 Or has He daughters while you have sons?

Transliteration

39 Am lahu albanatu walakumu albanoona

Shakir

40 Or do you ask them for a reward, so that they are overburdened by a debt?

Transliteration

40 Am tasaluhum ajran fahum min maghramin muthqaloona

Shakir

41 Or have they the unseen so that they write (it) down?

Transliteration

41 Am AAindahumu alghaybu fahum yaktuboona

Shakir

42 Or do they desire a war? But those who disbelieve shall be the vanquished ones in war.

Transliteration

42 Am yureedoona kaydan faallatheena kafaroo humu almakeedoona

Shakir

43 Or have they a god other than Allah? Glory be to Allah from what they set up (with Him).

Transliteration

43 Am lahum ilahun ghayru Allahi subhana Allahi AAamma yushrikoona

Shakir

44 And if they should see a portion of the heaven coming down, they would say: Piled up clouds.

Transliteration

44 Wain yaraw kisfan mina alssamai saqitan yaqooloo sahabun markoomun

Shakir

45 Leave them then till they meet that day of theirs wherein they shall be made to swoon (with terror):

Transliteration

45 Fatharhum hatta yulaqoo yawmahumu allathee feehi yusAAaqoona

Shakir

46 The day on which their struggle shall not avail them aught, nor shall they be helped.

Transliteration

46 Yawma la yughnee AAanhum kayduhum shayan wala hum yunsaroona

Shakir

47 And surely those who are unjust shall have a punishment besides that (in the world), but most of them do not know.

Transliteration

47 Wainna lillatheena thalamoo AAathaban doona thalika walakinna aktharahum la yaAAlamoona

Shakir

48 And wait patiently for the judgment of your Lord, for surely you are before Our eyes, and sing the praise of your Lord when you rise;

Transliteration

48 Waisbir lihukmi rabbika fainnaka biaAAyunina wasabbih bihamdi rabbika heena taqoomu

Shakir

49 And in the night, give Him glory too, and at the setting of the stars.

49 Wamina allayli fasabbihhu waidbara alnnujoomi
