Chapter 53, 62 verses
I swear by the star when it goes down.
কসম নক্ষত্রের, যখন তা অস্ত যায়।
By the Star when it goes down, -
وَٱلنَّجْمِ إِذَا هَوَىٰ
Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray;
তোমাদের সঙ্গী পথভ্রষ্ট হয়নি এবং বিপথগামীও হয়নি।
Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled.
مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمْ وَمَا غَوَىٰ
Nor does he speak out of desire.
আর সে মনগড়া কথা বলে না।
Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire.
وَمَا يَنطِقُ عَنِ ٱلْهَوَىٰٓ
It is naught but revelation that is revealed,
তাতো কেবল ওহী, যা তার প্রতি ওহীরূপে প্রেরণ করা হয়।
It is no less than inspiration sent down to him:
إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحْىٌ يُوحَىٰ
The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him,
তাকে শিক্ষা দিয়েছে প্রবল শক্তিধর,
He was taught by one Mighty in Power,
عَلَّمَهُۥ شَدِيدُ ٱلْقُوَىٰ
The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion,
প্রজ্ঞার অধিকারী*। অতঃপর সে স্থির হয়েছিল, * জিবরীল।
Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form);
ذُو مِرَّةٍ فَٱسْتَوَىٰ
And he is in the highest part of the horizon.
তখন সে ঊর্ধ্ব দিগন্তে।
While he was in the highest part of the horizon:
وَهُوَ بِٱلْأُفُقِ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ
Then he drew near, then he bowed
তারপর সে নিকটবর্তী হল, অতঃপর আরো কাছে এল।
Then he approached and came closer,
ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّىٰ
So he was the measure of two bows or closer still.
তখন সে নৈকট্য ছিল দু’ ধনুকের পরিমাণ, অথবা তারও কম।
And was at a distance of but two bow - lengths or (even) nearer;
فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ أَوْ أَدْنَىٰ
And He revealed to His servant what He revealed.
অতঃপর তিনি তাঁর বান্দার প্রতি যা ওহী করার তা ওহী করলেন।
So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant - (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey.
فَأَوْحَىٰٓ إِلَىٰ عَبْدِهِۦ مَآ أَوْحَىٰ
The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw.
সে যা দেখেছে, অন্তকরণ সে সম্পর্কে মিথ্যা বলেনি।
The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw.
مَا كَذَبَ ٱلْفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَىٰٓ
What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw?
সে যা দেখেছে, সে সম্পর্কে তোমরা কি তার সাথে বিতর্ক করবে?
Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw?
أَفَتُمَٰرُونَهُۥ عَلَىٰ مَا يَرَىٰ
And certainly he saw him in another descent,
আর সে তো তাকে* আরেকবার** দেখেছিল। * জিবরীলকে।
For indeed he saw him at a second descent,
وَلَقَدْ رَءَاهُ نَزْلَةً أُخْرَىٰ
At the farthest lote - tree;
সিদরাতুল মুনতাহার* নিকট। * সিদরাতুল মুনতাহা হল সপ্তম আকাশে আরশের ডান দিকে একটি কুল জাতীয় বৃক্ষ, সকল সৃষ্টির জ্ঞানের সীমার শেষ প্রান্ত। তারপর কি আছে, একমাত্র আল্লাহই জানেন।
Near the Lote - tree beyond which none may pass:
عِندَ سِدْرَةِ ٱلْمُنتَهَىٰ
Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to.
যার কাছে জান্নাতুল মা’ওয়া* অবস্থিত। * ফেরেশতা, শহীদদের রূহ ও মুত্তাকীদের অবস্থানস্থল।
Near it is the Garden of Abode.
عِندَهَا جَنَّةُ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰٓ
When that which covers covered the lote - tree;
যখন কুল গাছটিকে যা আচ্ছাদিত করার তা আচ্ছাদিত করেছিল।
Behold, the Lote - tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!)
إِذْ يَغْشَى ٱلسِّدْرَةَ مَا يَغْشَىٰ
The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit.
তার দৃষ্টি এদিক-সেদিক যায়নি এবং সীমাও অতিক্রম করেনি।
(His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong!
مَا زَاغَ ٱلْبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغَىٰ
Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord.
নিশ্চয় সে তার রবের বড় বড় নিদর্শনসমূহ থেকে দেখেছে।
For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest!
لَقَدْ رَأَىٰ مِنْ ءَايَٰتِ رَبِّهِ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰٓ
Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza,
তোমরা লাত ও ‘উযযা সম্পর্কে আমাকে বল’?
Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza,
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱللَّٰتَ وَٱلْعُزَّىٰ
And Manat, the third, the last?
আর মানাত সম্পর্কে, যা তৃতীয় আরেকটি?
And another, the third (goddess), Manat?
وَمَنَوٰةَ ٱلثَّالِثَةَ ٱلْأُخْرَىٰٓ
What! for you the males and for Him the females!
তোমাদের জন্য কি পুত্র আর আল্লাহর জন্য কন্যা?
What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female?
أَلَكُمُ ٱلذَّكَرُ وَلَهُ ٱلْأُنثَىٰ
This indeed is an unjust division!
এটাতো তাহলে এক অসঙ্গত বণ্টন!
Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair!
تِلْكَ إِذًا قِسْمَةٌ ضِيزَىٰٓ
They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord.
এগুলো কেবল কতিপয় নাম, যে নামগুলো তোমরা ও তোমাদের পিতৃপুরুষেরা রেখেছ। এ ব্যাপারে কোন দলীল-প্রমাণ নাযিল করেননি। তারা তো কেবল অনুমান এবং নিজেরা যা চায়, তার অনুসরণ করে। অথচ তাদের কাছে তাদের রবের পক্ষ থেকে হিদায়াত এসেছে।
These are nothing but names which ye have devised, - ye and your fathers, - for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire! - Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord!
إِنْ هِىَ إِلَّآ أَسْمَآءٌ سَمَّيْتُمُوهَآ أَنتُمْ وَءَابَآؤُكُم مَّآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَا مِن سُلْطَٰنٍ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَمَا تَهْوَى ٱلْأَنفُسُ وَلَقَدْ جَآءَهُم مِّن رَّبِّهِمُ ٱلْ
Or shall man have what he wishes?
মানুষের জন্য তা কি হয়, যা সে চায়?
Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after?
أَمْ لِلْإِنسَٰنِ مَا تَمَنَّىٰ
Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life).
বস্তুতঃ পরকাল ও ইহকাল তো আল্লাহরই।
But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong.
فَلِلَّهِ ٱلْءَاخِرَةُ وَٱلْأُولَىٰ
And how many an angel is there in the heavens whose intercession does not avail at all except after Allah has given permission to whom He pleases and chooses.
আর আসমানসমূহে অনেক ফেরেশতা রয়েছে, তাদের সুপারিশ কোনই কাজে আসবে না। তবে যাকে ইচ্ছা করেন এবং যার প্রতি তিনি সন্তুষ্ট, তার ব্যাপারে অনুমতি দেয়ার পর।
How many - so - ever be the angels in the heavens, their intercession will avail nothing except after Allah has given leave for whom He pleases and that he is acceptable to Him.
وَكَم مِّن مَّلَكٍ فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ لَا تُغْنِى شَفَٰعَتُهُمْ شَيْـًٔا إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعْدِ أَن يَأْذَنَ ٱللَّهُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيَرْضَىٰٓ
Most surely they who do not believe in the hereafter name the angels with female names.
নিশ্চয় যারা আখিরাতে বিশ্বাস করে না, তারাই ফেরেশতাদেরকে নারীবাচক নামে নামকরণ করে থাকে।
Those who believe not in the Hereafter, name the angels with female names.
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْءَاخِرَةِ لَيُسَمُّونَ ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةَ تَسْمِيَةَ ٱلْأُنثَىٰ
And they have no knowledge of it; they do not follow anything but conjecture, and surely conjecture does not avail against the truth at all.
অথচ এ বিষয়ে তাদের কোন জ্ঞানই নেই। তারা তো কেবল অনুমানেরই অনুসরণ করে। আর নিশ্চয় অনুমান সত্যের মোকাবেলায় কোনই কাজে আসে না।
But they have no knowledge therein. They follow nothing but conjecture; and conjecture avails nothing against Truth.
وَمَا لَهُم بِهِۦ مِنْ عِلْمٍ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَإِنَّ ٱلظَّنَّ لَا يُغْنِى مِنَ ٱلْحَقِّ شَيْـًٔا
Therefore turn aside from him who turns his back upon Our reminder and does not desire anything but this world's life.
অতএব তুমি তাকে উপেক্ষা করে চল, যে আমার স্মরণ থেকে বিমুখ হয় এবং কেবল দুনিয়ার জীবনই কামনা করে।
Therefore shun those who turn away from Our Message and desire nothing but the life of this world.
فَأَعْرِضْ عَن مَّن تَوَلَّىٰ عَن ذِكْرِنَا وَلَمْ يُرِدْ إِلَّا ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا
That is their goal of knowledge; surely your Lord knows best him who goes astray from His path and He knows best him who follows the right direction.
এটাই তাদের জ্ঞানের শেষসীমা। নিশ্চয় তোমার রবই সবচেয়ে ভাল জানেন তার সম্পর্কে, যে তার পথ থেকে বিচ্যুত হয়েছে এবং তিনিই সবচেয়ে ভাল জানেন তার সম্পর্কে, যে হিদায়াতপ্রাপ্ত হয়েছে।
That is as far as knowledge will reach them. Verily thy Lord knoweth best those who stray from His Path, and He knoweth best those who receive guidance.
ذَٰلِكَ مَبْلَغُهُم مِّنَ ٱلْعِلْمِ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ ٱهْتَدَىٰ
And Allah's is what is in the heavens and what is in the earth, that He may reward those who do evil according to what they do, and (that) He may reward those who do good with goodness.
আর আসমানসমূহে যা রয়েছে এবং যমীনে যা রয়েছে, তা আল্লাহরই। যাতে তিনি তাদের কাজের প্রতিফল দিতে পারেন যারা মন্দ কাজ করে এবং তাদেরকে তিনি উত্তম পুরস্কার দিতে পারেন যারা সৎকর্ম করে ।
Yea, to Allah belongs all that is in the heavens and on earth: so that He rewards those who do evil, according to their deeds, and He rewards those who do good, with what is best.
وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ لِيَجْزِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَسَٰٓـُٔوا۟ بِمَا عَمِلُوا۟ وَيَجْزِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا۟ بِٱلْحُسْنَى
Those who keep aloof from the great sins and the indecencies but the passing idea; surely your Lord is liberal in forgiving. He knows you best when He brings you forth from the earth and when you are embryos in the wombs of your mothers; therefore do not attribute purity to your souls; He knows him best who guards (against evil).
যারা ছোট খাট দোষ-ত্রুটি ছাড়া বড় বড় পাপ ও অশ্লীল কার্যকলাপ থেকে বিরত থাকে, নিশ্চয় তোমার রব ক্ষমার ব্যাপারে উদার, তিনি তোমাদের ব্যাপারে সম্যক অবগত। যখন তিনি তোমাদেরকে মাটি থেকে সৃষ্টি করেছেন এবং যখন তোমরা তোমাদের মাতৃগর্ভে ভ্রূণরূপে ছিলে। কাজেই তোমরা আত্মপ্
Those who avoid great sins and shameful deeds, only (falling into) small faults, - verily thy Lord is ample in forgiveness. He knows you well when He brings you out of the earth, And when ye are hidden in your mothers' wombs. Therefore justify not yourselves: He knows best who it is that guards against evil.
ٱلَّذِينَ يَجْتَنِبُونَ كَبَٰٓئِرَ ٱلْإِثْمِ وَٱلْفَوَٰحِشَ إِلَّا ٱللَّمَمَ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ وَٰسِعُ ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِكُمْ إِذْ أَنشَأَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَرْضِ وَإِذْ أَنتُمْ أَجِنَّةٌ فِى بُطُونِ أُمَّه
Have you then seen him who turns his back?
তুমি কি সেই ব্যক্তিকে দেখেছ, যে মুখ ফিরিয়ে নেয়?
Seest thou one who turns back,
أَفَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى تَوَلَّىٰ
And gives a little and (then) withholds.
আর সামান্য দান করে, তারপর বন্ধ করে দেয়?
Gives a little, then hardens (his heart)?
وَأَعْطَىٰ قَلِيلًا وَأَكْدَىٰٓ
Has he the knowledge of the unseen so that he can see?
তার কাছে কি আছে গায়েবের জ্ঞান যে, সে দেখছে?
What! Has he knowledge of the Unseen so that he can see?
أَعِندَهُۥ عِلْمُ ٱلْغَيْبِ فَهُوَ يَرَىٰٓ
Or, has he not been of what is in the scriptures of Musa?
নাকি মূসার কিতাবে যা আছে, সে সম্পর্কে তাকে অবহিত করা হয়নি ?
Nay, is he not acquainted with what is in the Books of Moses -
أَمْ لَمْ يُنَبَّأْ بِمَا فِى صُحُفِ مُوسَىٰ
And (of) Ibrahim who fulfilled (the commandments):
আর ইবরাহীমের কিতাবে, যে (নির্দেশ) পূর্ণ করেছিল।
And of Abraham who fulfilled his engagements? -
وَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ ٱلَّذِى وَفَّىٰٓ
That no bearer of burden shall bear the burden of another -
তা এই যে, কোন বোঝা বহনকারী অন্যের বোঝা বহন করবে না।
Namely, that no bearer of burdens can bear the burden of another;
أَلَّا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌ وِزْرَ أُخْرَىٰ
And that man shall have nothing but what he strives for -
আর এই যে, মানুষ যা চেষ্টা করে, তাই সে পায়।
That man can have nothing but what he strives for;
وَأَن لَّيْسَ لِلْإِنسَٰنِ إِلَّا مَا سَعَىٰ
And that his striving shall soon be seen -
আর এই যে, তার প্রচেষ্টার ফল শীঘ্রই তাকে দেখানো হবে।
That (the fruit of) his striving will soon come in sight:
وَأَنَّ سَعْيَهُۥ سَوْفَ يُرَىٰ
Then shall he be rewarded for it with the fullest reward -
তারপর তাকে পূর্ণ প্রতিফল প্রদান করা হবে।
Then will he be rewarded with a reward complete;
ثُمَّ يُجْزَىٰهُ ٱلْجَزَآءَ ٱلْأَوْفَىٰ
And that to your Lord is the goal -
আর নিশ্চয় তোমার রবের নিকটই হলো শেষ গন্তব্য।
That to thy Lord is the final Goal;
وَأَنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلْمُنتَهَىٰ
And that He it is Who makes (men) laugh and makes (them) weep;
আর নিশ্চয় তিনিই হাসান এবং তিনিই কাঁদান।
That it is He Who granteth Laughter and Tears;
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَضْحَكَ وَأَبْكَىٰ
And that He it is Who causes death and gives life -
আর নিশ্চয় তিনিই মৃত্যু দেন এবং তিনিই জীবন দেন।
That it is He Who granteth Death and Life;
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَمَاتَ وَأَحْيَا
And that He created pairs, the male and the female
আর তিনিই যুগল সৃষ্টি করেন- পুরুষ ও নারী।
That He did create in pairs, - male and female,
وَأَنَّهُۥ خَلَقَ ٱلزَّوْجَيْنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰ
From the small seed when it is adapted
শুক্রবিন্দু থেকে যখন তা নিক্ষিপ্ত হয়।
From a seed when lodged (in its place);
مِن نُّطْفَةٍ إِذَا تُمْنَىٰ
And that on Him is the bringing forth a second time;
আর নিশ্চয় পুনরায় সৃষ্টির দায়িত্ব তাঁর উপরই।
That He hath promised a Second Creation (Raising of the Dead);
وَأَنَّ عَلَيْهِ ٱلنَّشْأَةَ ٱلْأُخْرَىٰ
And that He it is Who enriches and gives to hold;
আর তিনিই অভাবমুক্ত করেন ও সম্পদ দান করেন।
That it is He Who giveth wealth and satisfaction;
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَغْنَىٰ وَأَقْنَىٰ
And that He is the Lord of the Sirius;
আর তিনিই শিরার* রব। * একটি নক্ষত্রের নাম।
That He is the Lord of Sirius (the Mighty Star);
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ رَبُّ ٱلشِّعْرَىٰ
And that He did destroy the Ad of old
আর তিনিই প্রাচীন ‘আদ জাতিকে ধ্বংস করেছেন।
And that it is He Who destroyed the (powerful) ancient 'Ad (people),
وَأَنَّهُۥٓ أَهْلَكَ عَادًا ٱلْأُولَىٰ
And Samood, so He spared not
আর সামূদ জাতিকেও। কাউকে তিনি অবশিষ্ট রাখেন নি।
And the Thamud nor gave them a lease of perpetual life.
وَثَمُودَا۟ فَمَآ أَبْقَىٰ
And the people of Nuh before; surely they were most unjust and inordinate;
আর পূর্বে নূহের কওমকেও। নিশ্চয় তারা ছিল অতিশয় যালিম ও চরম অবাধ্য।
And before them, the people of Noah, for that they were (all) most unjust and most insolent transgressors,
وَقَوْمَ نُوحٍ مِّن قَبْلُ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ هُمْ أَظْلَمَ وَأَطْغَىٰ
And the overthrown cities did He overthrow,
আর তিনি উল্টানো আবাসভূমিকে* নিক্ষেপ করেছিলেন। * সামূদ সম্প্রদায়ের জনপদ।
And He destroyed the Overthrown Cities (of Sodom and Gomorrah).
وَٱلْمُؤْتَفِكَةَ أَهْوَىٰ
So there covered them that which covered.
অতঃপর সেটাকে আচ্ছন্ন করেছিল, যা আচ্ছন্ন করার ছিল।
So that (ruins unknown) have covered them up.
فَغَشَّىٰهَا مَا غَشَّىٰ
Which of your Lord's benefits will you then dispute about?
তাহলে তুমি তোমার রবের কোন্ অনুগ্রহ সম্পর্কে সন্দেহ পোষণ করবে?
Then which of the gifts of thy Lord, (O man,) wilt thou dispute about?
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكَ تَتَمَارَىٰ
This is a warner of the warners of old.
অতীত সতর্ককারীদের মত এই নবীও একজন সতর্ককারী।
This is a Warner, of the (series of) Warners of old!
هَٰذَا نَذِيرٌ مِّنَ ٱلنُّذُرِ ٱلْأُولَىٰٓ
The near event draws nigh.
কিয়ামত নিকটবর্তী।
The (Judgment) ever approaching draws nigh:
أَزِفَتِ ٱلْءَازِفَةُ
There shall be none besides Allah to remove it.
ছাড়া কেউই তা প্রকাশ করতে সক্ষম নয়।
No (soul) but Allah can lay it bare.
لَيْسَ لَهَا مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ كَاشِفَةٌ
Do you then wonder at this announcement?
তোমরা কি এ কথায় বিস্ময় বোধ করছ?
Do ye then wonder at this recital?
أَفَمِنْ هَٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ تَعْجَبُونَ
And will you laugh and not weep?
আর হাসছ এবং কাঁদছ না?
And will ye laugh and not weep, -
وَتَضْحَكُونَ وَلَا تَبْكُونَ
While you are indulging in varieties.
আর তোমরা তো গাফিল।
Wasting your time in vanities?
وَأَنتُمْ سَٰمِدُونَ
So make obeisance to Allah and serve (Him).
সুতরাং তোমরা আল্লাহর উদ্দেশ্যে সিজদা কর এবং ইবাদাত কর।[সাজদাহ]
But fall ye down in prostration to Allah, and adore (Him)!
فَٱسْجُدُوا۟ لِلَّهِ وَٱعْبُدُوا۟
