Chapter 73, 20 verses
O you who have wrapped up in your garments!
হে বস্ত্রাচ্ছাদনকারী!
আল্লাহর নামে শুরু করছি, পরম করুণাময় পরম দয়ালু; হে বস্ত্রাবৃত,
O you who wraps himself [in clothing],
Rise to pray in the night except a little,
তুমি উঠে দাঁড়াও রাতেরবেলা অল্পসময় ব্যতীত, - -
রাতে দাঁড়াও, কিছু অংশ ব্যতীত,
Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little -
Half of it, or lessen it a little,
তার অর্ধেক, অথবা তার থেকে কিছুটা কমিয়ে নাও,
রাতের অর্ধেক বা কিছুকম।
Half of it - or subtract from it a little
Or add to it, and recite the Quran as it ought to be recited.
অথবা এর উপরে বাড়িয়ে নাও, আর কুরআন আবৃত্তি করো ধীরস্থিরভাবে শান্ত - সুন্দর আবৃত্তিতে।
অথবা তার উপর কিছু বাড়াও; এবং কুরআন আবৃত্তি কর পরিমিতভাবে।
Or add to it, and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation.
Surely We will make to light upon you a weighty Word.
নিঃসন্দেহ আমরা তোমার উপরে চাপাচ্ছি এক গুরুভার বাণী।
নিশ্চয়ই আমরা শীঘ্র তোমার উপর এক গুরুভার বাণী অর্পণ করবো।
Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word.
Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech.
নিঃসন্দেহ রাত - জেগে উপাসনা - - এ হচ্ছে বলিষ্ঠতম পদক্ষেপ ও সুসংস্থাপিত বক্তব্য।
নিশ্চয়ই রাতের জাগরণ অধিক কার্যকর এবং বক্তব্যে অধিক সঠিক।
Indeed, the hours of the night are more effective for concurrence [of heart and tongue] and more suitable for words.
Surely you have in the day time a long occupation.
নিঃসন্দেহ তোমার জন্য দিনের বেলায় রয়েছে সুদীর্ঘ কর্মতৎপরতা।
নিশ্চয়ই দিনের বেলায় তোমার জন্য রয়েছে দীর্ঘ ব্যস্ততা।
Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation.
And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion.
সুতরাং তোমার প্রভুর নাম কীর্তন করো এবং তাঁর প্রতি ধ্যানধারণায় মগ্ন হও একনিষ্ঠ ধ্যানে।
এবং তোমার প্রতিপালকের নাম স্মরণ কর, এবং তাঁর প্রতি একাগ্র হও সম্পূর্ণভাবে।
And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with [complete] devotion.
The Lord of the East and the West - - there is no god but He - - therefore take Him for a protector.
পূর্বাঞ্চল ও পশ্চিমাঞ্চলের প্রভু, তিনি ব্যতীত কোনো উপাস্য নেই, সুতরাং তাঁকেই কর্ণধাররূপে গ্রহণ করো।
পূর্ব ও পশ্চিমের প্রতিপালক; তিনি ছাড়া কোনো উপাস্য নেই। অতএব তাঁকেই অভিভাবক হিসেবে গ্রহণ কর।
[He is] the Lord of the East and the West; there is no deity except Him, so take Him as Disposer of [your] affairs.
And bear patiently what they say and avoid them with a becoming avoidance.
আর অধ্যবসায় চালিয়ে যাও তারা যা বলে তা সত্ত্বেও, আর তাদের পরিহার করে চলো সৌজন্যময় পরিহারে!
এবং তারা যা বলে তার প্রতি ধৈর্য ধারণ কর, এবং তাদের থেকে সুন্দরভাবে দূরে সরে যাও।
And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance.
And leave Me and the rejecters, the possessors of ease and plenty, and respite them a little.
আর ছেড়ে দাও আমাকে এবং সত্যপ্রত্যাখ্যানকারীদের, বিলাস - সামগ্রীর অধিকারীদের, আর তাদের বিরাম দাও অল্পকাল।
এবং আমাকে ও বিত্তশালী অস্বীকারকারীদের ছেড়ে দাও, এবং তাদেরকে অল্প সময় অবকাশ দাও।
And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little.
Surely with Us are heavy fetters and a flaming fire,
নিঃসন্দেহ আমাদের কাছে আছে ভারী শিকল ও জ্বলন্ত আগুন,
নিশ্চয়ই আমাদের কাছে রয়েছে শৃঙ্খলসমূহ ও জাহিম,
জাহিম: কুরআনে ব্যবহৃত জাহান্নামের একটি নাম, যা বিশেষভাবে প্রজ্বলিত ও তীব্র জ্বলন্ত আগুনের ধারণা প্রকাশ করে। কুরআনে জাহান্নামের জন্য বিভিন্ন নাম ও বর্ণনা ব্যবহার করা হয়েছে, যার মধ্যে রয়েছে:
Indeed, with Us [for them] are shackles and burning fire
And food that chokes and a painful punishment,
আর খাদ্য যা গলায় আটকে যায়, আর মর্মন্তুদ শাস্তি!
এবং গলায় আটকে যায় এমন খাদ্য, এবং যন্ত্রণাদায়ক শাস্তি।
And food that chokes and a painful punishment -
On the day when the earth and the mountains shall quake and the mountains shall become (as) heaps of sand let loose.
সেইদিন পৃথিবী ও পাহাড়গুলো কেঁপে উঠবে, আর পাহাড়গুলো হয়ে যাবে স্তূপাকার বালির গাদা!
যেদিন পৃথিবী ও পর্বতমালা কম্পিত হবে, এবং পর্বতমালা হয়ে যাবে বালুর স্তুপ।
On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down.
Surely We have sent to you an Apostle, a witness against you, as We sent an apostle to Firon.
নিঃসন্দেহ আমরা তোমাদের কাছে এজন রসূল পাঠিয়েছি, তোমাদের উপরে সাক্ষীরূপে, যেমন আমরা ফিরআউনের কাছে একজন রসূল পাঠিয়েছিলাম।
নিশ্চয়ই আমরা তোমাদের কাছে একজন রসূল প্রেরণ করেছি, তোমাদের উপর সাক্ষ্যদানকারী হিসেবে, যেমন আমরা ফিরআউনের কাছে একজন রসূল প্রেরণ করেছিলাম।
Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger.
But Firon disobeyed the apostle, so We laid on him a violent hold.
কিন্ত ফিরআউন সেই রসূলকে অমান্য করেছিল, ফলে আমরা তাকে পাকড়াও করেছিলাম নিদারুণ পাকড়ানোতে।
অতঃপর ফিরআউন সেই রসূলকে অমান্য করেছিল; ফলে আমরা তাকে কঠোরভাবে পাকড়াও করেছিলাম।
But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a ruinous seizure.
How, then, will you guard yourselves, if you disbelieve, on the day which shall make children grey - headed?
অতএব কেমন করে তোমরা আত্মরক্ষা করবে, যদি তোমরা অবিশ্বাস কর সেই দিনকে যেদিন ছেলেপিলেদের চুল পাকিয়ে তুলবে, - -
অতএব যদি তোমরা অবিশ্বাস কর তবে কীভাবে নিজেদের রক্ষা করবে সেই দিন থেকে, যা শিশুদের বৃদ্ধ করে দেবে?
Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white - haired?
The heaven shall rend asunder thereby; His promise is ever brought to fulfillment.
আকাশ হবে বিদীর্ণ? তাঁর ওয়াদা অবশ্যই বাস্তবায়িত হবে।
আকাশ বিদীর্ণ হবে; তাঁর প্রতিশ্রুতি বাস্তবায়িত হবেই।
The heaven will break apart therefrom; ever is His promise fulfilled.
Surely this is a reminder, then let him, who will take the way to his Lord.
নিশ্চয়ই এটি একটি স্মরণকারী বিষয়, সুতরাং যে ইচ্ছা করে সে তার প্রভুর দিকে পথ ধরুক।
নিশ্চয়ই এটি একটি উপদেশ; অতএব যে ইচ্ছা করে, সে তার প্রতিপালকের দিকে পথ গ্রহণ করুক।
Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way.
Surely your Lord knows that you pass in prayer nearly two - thirds of the night, and (sometimes) half of it, and (sometimes) a third of it, and (also) a party of those with you; and Allah measures the night and the day. He knows that you are not able to do it, so He has turned to you (mercifully), therefore read what is easy of the Quran. He knows that there must be among you sick, and others who travel in the land seeking of the bounty of Allah, and others who fight in Allah's way, therefore read as much of it as is easy (to you), and keep up prayer and pay the poor - rate and offer to Allah a goodly gift, and whatever of good you send on beforehand for yourselves, you will find it with Allah; that is best and greatest in reward; and ask forgiveness of Allah; surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
তোমার প্রভু অবশ্য জানেন যে তুমি তো জেগে থাক রাতের প্রায় দুই - তৃতীয়াংশ, আর তার অর্ধেক আর তার এক - তৃতীয়াংশ, আর তোমার সঙ্গে যারা আছে তাদের একটি দলও। আর রাত ও দিনের পরিমাপ রক্ষা করেন। তিনি জানেন যে তোমরা কখনো এর হিসাব রাখতে পারবে না, কাজেই তিনি তোমাদের দিকে ফিরেছেন, সেজন্য কুরআন থেকে যতটা তোমাদের জন্য সহজ ততটা আবৃত্তি করো। তিনি জানেন যে তোমাদের কেউ - কেউ রোগগ্রস্ত হবে এবং অন্যেরা দুনিয়াতে চষে বেড়াবে র করুণাভান্ডারের সন্ধানে, আর অন্যান্যরা র পথে যুদ্ধ করবে, সেজন্য এ - থেকে যতটা তোমরা সহজ মনে কর ততটা আবৃত্তি করো, আর কায়েম রেখো ও যাকাত আদায় করো এবং কে ঋণদান করো উত্তম ঋণ। আর যা কিছু সৎকাজ তোমরা নিজেদের জন্য আগবাড়াও তা তোমরা র কাছে পাবে, - - সেটিই বেশি ভাল ও বিরাট প্রতিদান। আর র কাছে পরিত্রাণ খোঁজো, নিঃসন্দেহ পরিত্রাণকারী, অফুরন্ত ফলদাতা।
নিশ্চয়ই তোমার প্রতিপালক জানেন যে তুমি রাতের দুই-তৃতীয়াংশের কিছু কম, অথবা তার অর্ধেক, অথবা তার এক-তৃতীয়াংশ দাঁড়িয়ে থাকো; এবং তোমার সাথে থাকা একদলও। আর রাত ও দিনকে পরিমাপ করেন। তিনি জানেন যে তোমরা তা গণনা করে রাখতে পারবে না, তাই তিনি তোমাদের প্রতি অনুগ্রহ করেছেন। অতএব কুরআনের যতটুকু সহজ হয়, ততটুকু আবৃত্তি করো। তিনি জানেন যে তোমাদের মধ্যে কেউ কেউ অসুস্থ হবে, আর কেউ কেউ পৃথিবীতে বিচরণ করবে আল্লাহর অনুগ্রহ অনুসন্ধানে, এবং অন্যরা আল্লাহর পথে যুদ্ধ করবে। অতএব এর যতটুকু সহজ হয়, ততটুকু আবৃত্তি করো; এবং প্রতিষ্ঠা করো, যাকাত প্রদান করো, এবং আল্লাহকে উত্তম ঋণ দাও। আর তোমরা নিজেদের জন্য যে কল্যাণই অগ্রে পাঠাও না কেন, তা আল্লাহর কাছে পাবে—উত্তমতর এবং প্রতিদানে অধিক মহান। আর আল্লাহর কাছে ক্ষমা প্রার্থনা করো। নিশ্চয়ই ক্ষমাশীল, পরম দয়ালু।
Indeed, your Lord knows, [O Muhammad], that you stand [in prayer] almost two thirds of the night or half of it or a third of it, and [so do] a group of those with you. And Allah determines [the extent of] the night and the day. He has known that you [Muslims] will not be able to do it and has turned to you in forgiveness, so recite what is easy [for you] of the Qur'an. He has known that there will be among you those who are ill and others traveling throughout the land seeking [something] of the bounty of Allah and others fighting for the cause of Allah. So recite what is easy from it and establish prayer and give zakah and loan Allah a goodly loan. And whatever good you put forward for yourselves - you will find it with Allah. It is better and greater in reward. And seek forgiveness of Allah. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
