Transliteration

1 Waalshshamsi waduhaha

Yusuf Ali

1 By the Sun and his (glorious) splendour;

1 In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. By the sun and his brightness,

Transliteration

2 Waalqamari itha talaha

Yusuf Ali

2 By the Moon as she follows him;

Pickthall

2 And the moon when she followeth him,

Transliteration

3 Waalnnahari itha jallaha

Yusuf Ali

3 By the Day as it shows up (the Sun's) glory;

Pickthall

3 And the day when it revealeth him,

Transliteration

4 Waallayli itha yaghshaha

Yusuf Ali

4 By the Night as it conceals it;

Pickthall

4 And the night when it enshroudeth him,

Transliteration

5 Waalssamai wama banaha

Yusuf Ali

5 By the Firmament and its (wonderful) structure;

Pickthall

5 And the heaven and Him Who built it,

Transliteration

6 Waalardi wama tahaha

Yusuf Ali

6 By the Earth and its (wide) expanse:

6 And the earth and Him Who spread it,

Transliteration

7 Wanafsin wama sawwaha

Yusuf Ali

7 By the Soul, and the proportion and order given to it;

7 And a soul and Him Who perfected it

Transliteration

8 Faalhamaha fujooraha wataqwaha

Yusuf Ali

8 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right; -

Pickthall

8 And inspired it (with conscience of) what is wrong for it and (what is) right for it.

Transliteration

9 Qad aflaha man zakkaha

Yusuf Ali

9 Truly he succeeds that purifies it,

9 He is indeed successful who causeth it to grow,

Transliteration

10 Waqad khaba man dassaha

Yusuf Ali

10 And he fails that corrupts it!

10 And he is indeed a failure who stunteth it.

Transliteration

11 Kaththabat thamoodu bitaghwaha

Yusuf Ali

11 The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong - doing,

Pickthall

11 (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride,

Transliteration

12 Ithi inbaAAatha ashqaha

Yusuf Ali

12 Behold, the most wicked man among them was deputed (for impiety).

12 When the basest of them broke forth

Transliteration

13 Faqala lahum rasoolu Allahi naqata Allahi wasuqyaha

Yusuf Ali

13 But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She - camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!"

Pickthall

13 And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she - camel of Allah, so let her drink!

Transliteration

14 Fakaththaboohu faAAaqarooha fadamdama AAalayhim rabbuhum bithanbihim fasawwaha

Yusuf Ali

14 Then they rejected him (as a false prophet), and they hamstrung her. So their Lord, on account of their crime, obliterated their traces and made them equal (in destruction, high and low)!

Pickthall

14 But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and rased (their dwellings).

Transliteration

15 Wala yakhafu AAuqbaha

Yusuf Ali

15 And for Him is no fear of its consequences.

Pickthall

15 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events).
