1 Waaltteeni waalzzaytooni

1 By the Fig and the Olive,

1 In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. By the fig and the olive,

Transliteration

2 Watoori seeneena

Yusuf Ali

2 And the Mount of Sinai,

Pickthall

2 By Mount Sinai,

Transliteration

3 Wahatha albaladi alameeni

Yusuf Ali

3 And this City of security, -

Pickthall

3 And by this land made safe;

Transliteration

4 Laqad khalaqna alinsana fee ahsani taqweemin

Yusuf Ali

4 We have indeed created man in the best of moulds,

4 Surely We created man of the best stature

Transliteration

5 Thumma radadnahu asfala safileena

Yusuf Ali

5 Then do We abase him (to be) the lowest of the low, -

Pickthall

5 Then we reduced him to the lowest of the low,

Transliteration

6 Illa allatheena amanoo waAAamiloo alssalihati falahum ajrun ghayru mamnoonin

Yusuf Ali

6 Except such as believe and do righteous deeds: For they shall have a reward unfailing.

Pickthall

6 Save those who believe and do good works, and theirs is a reward unfailing.

Transliteration

7 Fama yukaththibuka baAAdu bialddeeni

Yusuf Ali

7 Then what can, after this, contradict thee, as to the judgment (to come)?

Pickthall

7 So who henceforth will give the lie to thee about the judgment ?

Transliteration

8 Alaysa Allahu biahkami alhakimeena

Yusuf Ali

8 Is not Allah the wisest of judges?

Pickthall

8 Is not Allah the most conclusive of all judges ?
