Hilali & Muhsin Khan
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Alif-Lam-Mim-Ra. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Qur'an; and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. These are the Verses of the Book (the Qur'an), and that which has been revealed unto you (Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم) from your Lord is the truth, but most men believe not.

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. Alif. Lam. Mim. Ra. These are verses of the Scripture. That which is revealed unto thee from thy Lord is the Truth, but most of mankind believe not.

পরম দয়ালু পরম ক্ষমাশীল আল্লাহর নামে; আলিফ্ - লাম - মীম্ - রা, এইগুলি কুরআনের আয়াত, যাহা তোমার প্রতিপালক হইতে তোমার প্রতি অবতীর্ণ হইয়াছে তাহাই সত্য; কিন্তু অধিকাংশ মানুষ ইহাতে ঈমান আনে না।

Allah is He Who raised the heavens without any pillars that you can see. Then, He rose above (Istawa) the Throne (really in a manner that suits His Majesty). He has subjected the sun and the moon (to continue going round), each running (its course) for a term appointed. He manages and regulates all affairs; He explains the Ayat (proofs, evidence, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) in detail, that you may believe with certainty in the meeting with your Lord.

Allah it is Who raised up the heavens without visible supports, then mounted the Throne, and compelled the sun and the moon to be of service, each runneth unto an appointed term; He ordereth the course; He detaileth the revelations, that haply ye may be certain of the meeting with your Lord.

ঊর্ধ্বদেশে আকাশমণ্ডলী স্থাপন করিয়াছেন স্তম্ভ ব্যতীত - তোমরা ইহা দেখিতেছ। অতঃপর তিনি র্আশে সমাসীন হইলেন এবং সূর্য ও চন্দ্রকে নিয়মাধীন করিলেন; প্রত্যেকে নির্দিষ্ট কাল পর্যন্ত আবর্তন করে। তিনি সকল বিষয় নিয়ন্ত্রণ করেন এবং নিদর্শনসমূহ বিশদভাবে বর্ণনা করেন, যাহাতে তোমরা তোমাদের প্রতিপালকের সঙ্গে সাক্ষাৎ সম্বন্ধে নিশ্চিত বিশ্বাস করিতে পার।

And it is He Who spread out the earth, and placed therein firm mountains and rivers and of every kind of fruits He made Zawjain Ithnain (two in pairs - may mean two kinds or it may mean: of two varieties, e.g. black and white, sweet and sour, small and big). He brings the night as a cover over the day. Verily, in these things, there are Ayat (proofs, evidence, lessons, signs, etc.) for people who reflect.

And He it is Who spread out the earth and placed therein firm hills and flowing streams, and of all fruits He placed therein two spouses (male and female). He covereth the night with the day. Lo! herein verily are portents for people who take thought.

তিনিই ভূতলকে বিস্তৃত করিয়াছেন এবং উহাতে পর্বত ও নদী সৃষ্টি করিয়াছেন এবং প্রত্যেক প্রকারের ফল সৃষ্টি করিয়াছেন জোড়ায় জোড়ায়। তিনি দিবসকে রাত্রি দ্বারা আচ্ছাদিত করেন। ইহাতে অবশ্যই নিদর্শন রহিয়াছে চিন্তাশীল সম্প্রদায়ের জন্য।

And in the earth are neighbouring tracts, and gardens of vines, and green crops (fields), and date-palms, growing into two or three from a single stem root, or otherwise (one stem root for every palm), watered with the same water; yet some of them We make more excellent than others to eat. Verily, in these things there are Ayat (proofs, evidence, lessons, signs) for the people who understand.

And in the Earth are neighbouring tracts, vineyards and ploughed lands, and date - palms, like and unlike, which are watered with one water. And we have made some of them to excel others in fruit. Lo! herein verily are portents for people who have sense.

পৃথিবীতে রহিয়াছে পরস্পর - সংলগ্ন ভূখণ্ড, উহাতে আছে দ্রাক্ষা কানন, শস্যক্ষেত্র, একাধিক শিরবিশিষ্ট অথবা এক শিরবিশিষ্ট খর্জুর - বৃক্ষ সিঞ্চিত একই পানিতে, এবং ফল হিসাবে উহাদের কতককে কতকের উপর আমি শ্রেষ্ঠত্ব দিয়া থাকি। অবশ্যই বোধশক্তিসম্পন্ন সম্প্রদায়ের জন্য ইহাতে রহিয়াছে নিদর্শন।

And if you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم) wonder (at these polytheists who deny your message of Islamic Monotheism and have taken besides Allah others for worship who can neither harm nor benefit), then wondrous is their saying: "When we are dust, shall we indeed then be (raised) in a new creation?" They are those who disbelieved in their Lord! They are those who will have iron chains tying their hands to their necks. They will be the dwellers of the Fire to abide therein.

And if thou wonderest, then wondrous is their saying: When we are dust, are we then forsooth (to be raised) in a new creation ? Such are they who disbelieve in their Lord; such have carcans on their necks; such are rightful owners of the Fire, they will abide therein.

যদি তুমি বিস্মিত হও, তবে বিস্ময়ের বিষয় উহাদের কথা - ‘মাটিতে পরিণত হওয়ার পরও কি আমরা নূতন জীবন লাভ করিব?’ উহারাই উহাদের প্রতিপালককে অস্বীকার করে এবং উহাদেরই গলদেশে থাকিবে লৌহশৃঙ্খল। উহারাই দোযখবাসী ও সেখানে উহারা স্থায়ী হইবে।

They ask you to hasten the evil before the good, while (many) exemplary punishments have indeed occurred before them. But verily, your Lord is full of Forgiveness for mankind in spite of their wrong-doing. And verily, your Lord is (also) Severe in punishment.

And they bid thee hasten on the evil rather than the good, when exemplary punishments have indeed occurred before them. But lo! thy Lord is rich in pardon for mankind despite their wrong, and lo! thy Lord is strong in punishment.
সমকালীন বাংলা
মঙ্গলের পূর্বে উহারা তোমাকে শাস্তিত্বরান্নিত করিতে বলে, যদিও উহাদের পূর্বে ইহার বহু দৃষ্টান্ত গত হইয়াছে। মানুষের সীমালংঘন সত্ত্বেও তোমার প্রতিপালক তো মানুষের প্রতি ক্ষমাশীল এবং তোমার প্রতিপালক শাস্তিদানে তো কঠোর।

And the disbelievers say: "Why is not a sign sent down to him from his Lord?" You are only a warner, and to every people there is a guide.

Those who disbelieve say: If only some portent were sent down upon him from his Lord! Thou art a warner only, and for every folk a guide.

যাহারা করিয়াছে তাহারা বলে, ‘তাহার প্রতিপালকের নিকট হইতে তাহার নিকট কোন নিদর্শন অবতীর্ণ হয় না কেন?’ তুমি তো কেবল সতর্ককারী এবং প্রত্যেক সম্প্রদায়ের জন্য আছে পথপ্রদর্শক।

Allah knows what every female bears, and by how much the wombs fall short (of their time or number) or exceed. Everything with Him is in (due) proportion.

Allah knoweth that which every female beareth and that which the wombs absorb and that which they grow. And everything with Him is measured.

প্রত্যেক নারী যাহা গর্ভে ধারণ করে এবং জরায়ুতে যাহা কিছু কমে ও বাড়ে তাহা জানেন এবং তাঁহার বিধানে প্রত্যেক বস্তুরই এক নির্দিষ্ট পরিমাণ আছে।

যাহা ও যাহা দৃশ্যমান তিনি তাহা অবগত; তিনি মহান, সর্বোচ্চ মর্যাদাবান।

It is the same (to Him) whether any of you conceal his speech or declares it openly, whether he be hid by night or goes forth freely by day.

Alike of you is he who hideth the saying and he who noiseth it abroad, he who lurketh in the night and he who goeth freely in the daytime.

তোমাদের মধ্যে যে কথা গোপন রাখে অথবা যে উহা প্রকাশ করে, রাত্রিতে যে আত্মগোপন করে দিবসে যে প্রকাশ্যে বিচরন করে তাহারা সমভাবে আল্লাহর জ্ঞানগোচর।

For him (each person), there are angels in succession, before and behind him. They guard him by the Command of Allah. Verily! Allah will not change the (good) condition of a people as long as they do not change their state (of goodness) themselves (by committing sins and by being ungrateful and disobedient to Allah). But when Allah wills a people's punishment, there can be no turning back of it, and they will find besides Him no protector.

For him are angels ranged before him and behind him, who guard him by Allah's command. Lo! Allah changeth not the condition of a folk until they (first) change that which is in their hearts; and if Allah willeth misfortune for a folk there is none that can repel it, nor have they a defender beside Him.

মানুষের জন্য তাহার সম্মুখে ও পশ্চাতে একের পর এক প্রহরী থাকে; উহারা আল্লাহর আদেশে তাহার রক্ষণাবেক্ষণ করে। এবং কোন সম্প্রদায়ের অবস্থা পরিবর্তন করেন না যতক্ষণ না উহারা নিজ অবস্থা নিজে পরিবর্তন করে। কোন সম্প্রদায় সম্পর্কে যদি অশুভ কিছু ইচ্ছা করেন তবে তাহা রদ হইবার নহে এবং তিনি ব্যতীত উহাদের কোন অভিভাবক নাই।

It is He Who shows you the lightning, as a fear (for travellers) and as a hope (for those who wait for rain). And it is He Who brings up (or originates) the clouds, heavy (with water).

He it is Who showeth you the lightning, a fear and a hope, and raiseth the heavy clouds.

তিনিই তোমাদেরকে দেখান বিজলী, ভয় ও ভরসা সঞ্চার করান এবং তিনিই সৃষ্টি করেন ভারী মেঘ;

And Ar-Ra'd (thunder) glorifies and praises Him, and so do the angels because of His Awe. He sends the thunderbolts, and therewith He strikes whom He wills, yet they (disbelievers) dispute about Allah. And He is Mighty in strength and Severe in punishment.
Pickthall
The thunder hymneth His praise and (so do) the angels for awe of Him. He launcheth the thunderbolts and smiteth with them whom He will while they dispute (in doubt) concerning Allah, and He is mighty in wrath.
সমকালীন বাংলা
বজ্রধ্বনি তাঁহার সপ্রশংস মহিমা ও পবিত্রতা ঘোষণা করে, ফিরিশ্তাগণও করে তাহার ভয়ে। তিনি বজ্রপাত করেন এবং যাহাকে ইচ্ছা উহা দ্বারা আঘাত করেন। আর উহারা সম্বন্ধে বিতণ্ডা করে, অথচ তিনি মহাশক্তিশালী।

For Him (Allah, Alone) is the Word of Truth (i.e. none has the right to be worshipped but Allah). And those whom they (polytheists and disbelievers) invoke, answer them no more than one who stretches forth his hand (at the edge of a deep well) for water to reach his mouth, but it reaches him not; and the invocation of the disbelievers is nothing but an error (i.e. of no use).

Unto Him is the real prayer. Those unto whom they pray beside Allah respond to them not at all, save as (is the response to) one who stretcheth forth his hands toward water (asking) that it may come unto his mouth, and it will never reach it. The prayer of disbelievers goeth (far) astray.

সত্যের আহ্বান তাঁহারই। যাহারা তাঁহাকে ব্যতীত আহ্বান করে অপরকে, তাহাদেরকে কোনই সাড়া দেয় না উহারা; তাহাদের দৃষ্টান্ত সেই ব্যক্তির মত, যে তাহার মুখে পানি পৌঁছিবে - এই আশায় তাহার হস্তদ্বয় প্রসারিত করে পানির দিকে, অথচ উহা তাহার মুখে পৌঁছিবার নয়, কাফিরদের আহ্বান নিষ্ফল।

And unto Allah (Alone) falls in prostration whoever is in the heavens and the earth, willingly or unwillingly, and so do their shadows in the mornings and in the afternoons.

And unto Allah falleth prostrate whosoever is in the heavens and the earth, willingly or unwillingly, as do their shadows in the morning and the evening hours.

আল্লাহর প্রতি সিজ্দাবনত হয় আকাশমণ্ডলী ও পৃথিবীতে যাহা কিছু আছে ইচ্ছায় অথবা অনিচ্ছায় এবং তাহাদের ছায়াগুলিও সকাল ও সন্ধ্যায়।

Say (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم): "Who is the Lord of the heavens and the earth?" Say: "(It is) Allah." Say: "Have you then taken (for worship) Auliya' (protectors) other than Him, such as have no power either for benefit or for harm to themselves?" Say: "Is the blind equal to the one who sees? Or darkness equal to light? Or do they assign to Allah partners who created the like of His creation, so that the creation (which they made and His creation) seemed alike to them?" Say: "Allah is the Creator of all things; and He is the One, the Irresistible."

Say (O Muhammad): Who is Lord of the heavens and the earth ? Say: Allah. Say: Take ye then (others) beside Him for protectors, which, even for themselves, have neither benefit nor hurt ? Say: Is the blind man equal to the seer, or is darkness equal to light ? Or assign they unto Allah partners who created the like of His creation so that the creation (which they made and His creation) seemed alike to them ? Say: Allah is the Creator of all things, and He is the One, the Almighty.

বল, ‘কে আকাশমণ্ডলী ও পৃথিবীর প্রতিপালক?’ বল, বল, ‘তবে কি তোমরা অভিভাবকরূপে গ্রহণ করিয়াছ আল্লাহর পরিবর্তে অপরকে যাহারা নিজেদের লাভ বা ক্ষতি সাধনে সক্ষম নয়?’ বল, ‘অন্ধ ও চক্ষুষ্মান কি সমান অথবা অন্ধকার ও আলো কি এক?’ তবে কী তাহারা আল্লাহর এমন শরীক করিয়াছে, যাহারা আল্লাহর সৃষ্টির মত সৃষ্টি করিয়াছে, যে কারণে সৃষ্টি উহাদের নিকট সদৃশ মনে হইয়াছে? বল, সকল বস্তুর স্রষ্টা; তিনি এক, পরাক্রমশালী।’

He sends down water (rain) from the sky, and the valleys flow according to their measure, but the flood bears away the foam that mounts up to the surface - and (also) from that (ore) which they heat in the fire in order to make ornaments or utensils, rises a foam like unto it, thus does Allah (by parables) show forth truth and falsehood . Then, as for the foam it passes away as scum upon the banks, while that which is for the good of mankind remains in the earth. Thus Allah sets forth parables (for the truth and falsehood, i.e. Belief and disbelief).

He sendeth down water from the sky, so that valleys flow according to their measure, and the flood beareth (on its surface) swelling foam - from that which they smelt in the fire in order to make ornaments and tools riseth a foam like unto it - thus Allah coineth (the similitude of) the true and the false. Then, as for the foam, it passeth away as scum upon the banks, while, as for that which is of use to mankind, it remaineth in the earth. Thus Allah coineth the similitudes.

তিনি আকাশ হইতে বৃষ্টিপাত করেন, ফলে উপত্যকাসমূহ উহাদের পরিমাণ অনুযায়ী প্লাবন হয় এবং প্লাবন তাহার উপরিস্থিত আবর্জনা বহন করে, এইরূপে আবর্জনা উপরিভাগে আসে যখন অলংকার অথবা তৈজসপত্র নির্মাণ উদ্দেশ্যে কিছু অগ্নিতে উত্তপ্ত করা হয়। এইভাবে সত্য ও অসত্যের দৃষ্টান্ত দিয়া থাকেন। যাহা আবর্জনা তাহা ফেলিয়া দেওয়া হয় এবং যাহা মানুষের উপকারে আসে তাহা জমিতে থাকিয়া যায়। এইভাবে উপমা দিয়ে থাকেন।

For those who answered their Lord's Call [believed in the Oneness of Allah and followed His Messenger Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم i.e. Islamic Monotheism] is Al-Husna (i.e. Paradise). But those who answered not His Call (disbelieved in the Oneness of Allah and followed not His Messenger Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم), if they had all that is in the earth together with its like, they would offer it in order to save themselves (from the torment, but it will be in vain). For them there will be the terrible reckoning. Their dwelling-place will be Hell; and worst indeed is that place for rest.

For those who answered Allah's call is bliss; and for those who answered not His call, if they had all that is in the earth, and therewith the like thereof, they would proffer it as ransom. Such will have a woeful reckoning, and their habitation will be hell, a dire abode.

মঙ্গল তাহাদের যাহারা তাহাদের প্রতিপালকের আহ্বানে সাড়া দেয়। এবং যাহারা তাঁহার ডাকে সাড়া দেয় না, তাহাদের যদি পৃথিবীতে যাহা কিছু আছে তাহা সমস্তই থাকিত এবং তাহার সঙ্গে সমপরিমাণ আরো থাকিত উহারা মুক্তিপণস্বরূপ তাহা দিত। উহাদের হিসাব হইবে কঠোর এবং জাহান্নাম হইবে উহাদের আবাস, উহা কত নিকৃষ্ট আশ্রয়স্থল।

Shall he then who knows that what has been revealed unto you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم) from your Lord is the truth be like him who is blind? But it is only the men of understanding that pay heed.

Is he who knoweth that what is revealed unto thee from thy Lord is the truth like him who is blind ? But only men of understanding heed;

তোমার প্রতিপালক হইতে তোমার প্রতি যাহা অবতীর্ণ হইয়াছে তাহা যে ব্যক্তি সত্য বলিয়া জানে আর যে অন্ধ তাহারা কি সমান? উপদেশ গ্রহণ করে শুধু বিবেকশক্তি সম্পন্নগণই,

Those who fulfil the Covenant of Allah and break not the Mithaq (bond, treaty, covenant).

Such as keep the pact of Allah, and break not the covenant;

যাহারা প্রদত্ত অঙ্গীকার রক্ষা করে এবং প্রতিজ্ঞা ভঙ্গ করে না।

And those who join that which Allah has commanded to be joined (i.e. they are good to their relatives and do not sever the bond of kinship), and fear their Lord, and dread the terrible reckoning (i.e. abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds which Allah has forbidden and perform all kinds of good deeds which Allah has ordained).

Such as unite that which Allah hath commandeth should be joined, and fear their Lord, and dread a woeful reckoning;

এবং যে সম্পর্ক অক্ষুন্ন রাখিতে আদেশ করিয়াছেন যাহারা তাহা অক্ষুন্ন রাখে, ভয় করেতাহাদের প্রতিপালককে এবং ভয় করে কঠোর হিসাবকে,

And those who remain patient, seeking their Lord's Countenance, perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and spend out of that which We have bestowed on them, secretly and openly, and defend evil with good, for such there is a good end.

Such as persevere in seeking their Lord's Countenance and are regular in prayer and spend of that which We bestow upon them secretly and openly, and overcome evil with good. Theirs will be the sequel of the (heavenly) Home,

এবং যাহারা তাহাদের প্রতিপালকের সন্তুষ্টি লাভের জন্য ধৈর্য ধারণ করে, কায়েম করে, আমি তাহাদেরকে যে জীবনোপকরণ দিয়াছি তাহা হইতে গোপনে ও প্রকাশ্যে ব্যয় করে এবং যাহারা ভাল দ্বারা মন্দ দূরীভূত করে, ইহাদের জন্য শুভ পরিণাম -

'Adn (Eden) Paradise (everlasting Gardens), which they shall enter and (also) those who acted righteously from among their fathers, and their wives, and their offspring. And angels shall enter unto them from every gate (saying):

Gardens of Eden which they enter, along with all who do right of their fathers and their helpmeets and their seed. The angels enter unto them from every gate,
সমকালীন বাংলা
স্থায়ী জান্নাত, উহাতে তাহারা প্রবেশ করিবে এবং তাহাদের পিতা - মাতা, পতি - পত্নী ও সন্তানসন্ততিদের মধ্যে যাহারা সৎকর্ম করিয়াছে তাহারাও এবং ফিরিশ্তাগণ তাহাদের নিকট উপস্থিত হইবে প্রত্যেক দ্বার দিয়া,

"Salamun 'Alaikum (peace be upon you) for you persevered in patience! Excellent indeed is the final home!"

(Saying): Peace be unto you because ye persevered. Ah, passing sweet will be the sequel of the (heavenly) Home.

এবং বলিবে, ‘তোমরা ধৈর্য ধারণ করিয়াছ বলিয়া তোমাদের প্রতি শান্তি; কত উত্তম এই পরিণাম।

And those who break the Covenant of Allah, after its ratification, and sever that which Allah has commanded to be joined (i.e. they sever the bond of kinship and are not good to their relatives), and work mischief in the land, on them is the curse (i.e. they will be far away from Allah's Mercy), and for them is the unhappy (evil) home (i.e. Hell) .

And those who break the covenant of Allah after ratifying it, and sever that which Allah hath commanded should be joined, and make mischief in the earth: theirs is the curse and theirs the ill abode.

যাহারা সঙ্গে দৃঢ় অঙ্গীকারে আবদ্ধ হইবার পর উহা ভঙ্গ করে, যে সম্পর্ক অক্ষুন্ন রাখিতে আদেশ করিয়াছেন, তাহা ছিন্ন করে এবং পৃথিবীতে অশান্তিসৃষ্টি করিয়া বেড়ায়, তাহাদের জন্য আছে লা‘নত এবং তাহাদের জন্য আছে মন্দ আবাস।

Allah increases the provision for whom He wills, and straitens (it for whom He wills), and they rejoice in the life of the world, whereas the life of this world as compared with the Hereafter is but a brief passing enjoyment.

Allah enlargeth livelihood for whom He will, and straiteneth (it for whom He will); and they rejoice in the life of the world, whereas the life of the world is but brief comfort as compared with the Hereafter.

যাহার জন্য ইচ্ছা তাহার জীবনোপকরণ বর্ধিত করেন এবং সংকুচিত করেন; কিন্তু ইহারা পার্থিব জীবনে অথচ দুনিয়ার জীবন তো আখিরাতের তুলনায় ক্ষণস্থায়ী ভোগমাত্র।

And those who disbelieved say: "Why is not a sign sent down to him (Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم) from his Lord?" Say: "Verily, Allah sends astray whom He wills and guides unto Himself those who turn to Him in repentance."

Those who disbelieve say: If only a portent were sent down upon him from his Lord! Say: Lo! Allah sendeth whom He will astray, and guideth unto Himself all who turn (unto Him),

Those who believed (in the Oneness of Allah - Islamic Monotheism), and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah: verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest .

Who have believed and whose hearts have rest in the remembrance of Allah. Verily in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest!
Those who believed (in the Oneness of Allah - Islamic Monotheism), and work righteousness, Tuba (all kinds of happiness or name of a tree in Paradise) is for them and a beautiful place of (final) return.

Those who believe and do right: Joy is for them, and bliss (their) journey's end.

Thus have We sent you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم) to a community before whom other communities have passed away, in order that you might recite unto them what We have revealed to you, while they disbelieve in the Most Gracious (Allah) Say: "He is my Lord! La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He)! In Him is my trust, and to Him will be my return with repentance."

Thus We send thee (O Muhammad) unto a nation, before whom other nations have passed away, that thou mayst recite unto them that which We have inspired in thee, while they are disbelievers in the Beneficent. Say: He is my Lord; there is no God save Him. In Him do I put my trust and unto Him is my recourse.

এইভাবে আমি তোমাকে পাঠাইয়াছি এক জাতির প্রতি যাহার পূর্বে বহু জাতি গত হইয়াছে, উহাদের নিকট তিলাওয়াত করিবার জন্য, যাহা আমি তোমার প্রতি প্রত্যাদেশ করিয়াছি। তথাপি উহারা দয়াময়কে অস্বীকার করে। বল, ‘তিনিই আমার প্রতিপালক; তিনি ব্যতীত অন্য কোন ইলাহ্ নাই। তাঁহারই উপর আমি নির্ভর করি এবং আমার প্রত্যাবর্তন তাঁহারই নিকট।’

And if there had been a Qur'an with which mountains could be moved (from their places), or the earth could be cloven asunder, or the dead could be made to speak (it would not have been other than this Qur'an). But the decision of all things is certainly with Allah. Have not then those who believed yet known that had Allah willed, He could have guided all mankind? And a disaster will not cease to strike those who disbelieved because of their (evil) deeds or it (i.e. the disaster) settles close to their homes, until the Promise of Allah comes to pass. Certainly, Allah breaks not His Promise.

Had it been possible for a Lecture to cause the mountains to move, or the earth to be torn asunder, or the dead to speak, (this Qur'an would have done so). Nay, but Allah's is the whole command. Do not those who believe know that, had Allah willed, He could have guided all mankind ? As for those who disbelieve, disaster ceaseth not to strike them because of what they do, or it dwelleth near their home until the threat of Allah come to pass. Lo! Allah faileth not to keep the tryst.

যদি কোন কুরআন এমন হইত যদ্ধারাপর্বতকে গতিশীল করা যাইত অথবা পৃথিবীকে বিদীর্ণ করা যাইত অথবা মৃতের সঙ্গে কথা বলা যাইত, তবুও উহারা উহাতে বিশ্বাস করিত না। কিন্তু সমস্ত বিষয়ই ইখ্তিয়ারভুক্ত। তবে কি যাহারা ঈমান আনিয়াছে তাহাদের প্রত্যয় হয় নাই যে, ইচ্ছা করিলে নিশ্চয়ই সকলকে সৎপথে পরিচালিত করিতে পারিতেন? যাহারা করিয়াছে তাহাদের কর্মফলের জন্য তাহাদের বিপর্যয় ঘটিতেই থাকিবে, অথবা বিপর্যয় তাহাদের আশেপাশে আপতিত হইতেই থাকিবে যতক্ষণ পর্যন্ত না প্রতিশ্রুতি আসিয়া পড়িবে নিশ্চই প্রতিশ্রুতির ব্যাতিক্রম করেন না।

And indeed (many) Messengers were mocked at before you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم), but I granted respite to those who disbelieved, and finally I punished them. Then how (terrible) was My punishment!

And verily messengers (of Allah) were mocked before thee, but long I bore with those who disbelieved. At length I seized them, and how (awful) was My punishment!

Is then He (Allah) Who takes charge (guards, maintains, provides) of every person and knows all that he has earned (like any other deities who know nothing)? Yet, they ascribe partners to Allah. Say: "Name them! Is it that you will inform Him of something He knows not in the earth or is it (just) a show of false words." Nay! To those who disbelieved, their plotting is made fairseeming, and they have been hindered from the Right Path; and whom Allah sends astray, for him there is no guide.

Is He Who is aware of the deserts of every soul (as he who is aware of nothing) ? Yet they ascribe unto Allah partners. Say: Name them. Is it that ye would inform Him of something which He knoweth not in the earth ? Or is it but a way of speaking ? Nay but their contrivance is made seeming fair for those who disbelieve and they are kept from the right road. He whom Allah sendeth astray, for him there is no guide.

তবে কি প্রত্যেক মানুষ যাহা করে তাহার যিনি পর্যবেক্ষক তিনি ইহাদের অক্ষম ইলাহ্গুলির মত? অথচ উহারা বহু শরীক করিয়াছে। বল, ‘উহাদের পরিচয় দাও।’ তোমরা কি পৃথিবীর মধ্যে এমন কিছুর সংবাদ দিতে চাও - যাহা তিনি জানেন না? অথবা ইহা বাহ্যিক কথা মাত্র? না, কাফিরদের নিকট উহাদের ছলনা শোভন প্রতীয়মান হইয়াছে এবং উহাদেরকে সৎপথ হইতে নিবৃত্ত করা হইয়াছে, আর যাহাকে বিভ্রান্তকরেন তাহার কোন পথপ্রদর্শক নাই।

For them is a torment in the life of this world, and certainly, harder is the torment of the Hereafter. And they have no Waq (defender or protector) against Allah.

The description of the Paradise which the Muttaqun (the pious - See V.2:2) have been promised: Underneath it rivers flow, its provision is eternal and so is its shade; this is the end (final destination) of the Muttaqun (the pious - See V.2:2), and the end (final destination) of the disbelievers is Fire. (See Verse 47:15)

A similitude of the Garden which is promised unto those who keep their duty (to Allah): Underneath it rivers flow; its food is everlasting, and its shade; this is the reward of those who keep their duty, while the reward of disbelievers is the Fire.

মুত্তাকীদেরকে যে জান্নাতের প্রতিশ্রুতি দেওয়া হইয়াছে, তাহার উপমা এইরূপ : উহার পাদদেশে নদী প্রবাহিত, উহার ফলসমূহ ও ছায়া চিরস্থায়ী। যাহারা ইহা তাহাদের কর্মফল এবং কাফিরদের কর্মফল দোযখ।

Those to whom We have given the Book (such as 'Abdullah bin Salam and other Jews who embraced Islam), rejoice at what has been revealed unto you (i.e. the Qur'an), but there are among the Confederates (from the Jews and pagans) those who reject a part thereof. Say (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم): "I am commanded only to worship Allah (Alone) and not to join partners with Him. To Him (Alone) I call and to Him is my return."

Those unto whom We gave the Scripture rejoice in that which is revealed unto thee. And of the clans there are who deny some of it. Say: I am commanded only that I serve Allah and ascribe unto Him no partner. Unto Him I cry, and unto Him is my return.

আমি যাহাদেরকে কিতাব দিয়াছি তাহারা যাহা তোমার প্রতি অবতীর্ণ হইয়াছে তাহাতে আনন্দ পায়, কিন্তু কোন কোন দল উহার কতক অংশ অস্বীকার করে। বল, ‘আমি তো ‘ইবাদত করিতে ও তাঁহার কোন শরীক না করিতে আদিষ্ট হইয়াছি। আমি তাঁহারই প্রতি আহ্বান করি এবং তাঁহারই নিকট আমার প্রত্যাবর্তন।’

And thus have We sent it (the Qur'an) down to be a judgement of authority in Arabic. Were you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم) to follow their (vain) desires after the knowledge which has come to you, then you will not have any Wali (protector) or Waq (defender) against Allah.

Thus have We revealed it, a decisive utterance in Arabic; and if thou shouldst follow their desires after that which hath come unto thee of knowledge, then truly wouldst thou have from Allah no protecting friend nor defender.

এইভাবে আমি কুরআন অবতীর্ণ করিয়াছি বিধানরূপে আরবী ভাষায়। জ্ঞান প্রাপ্তির পর তুমি যদি তাহাদের খেয়াল - খুশির অনুসরণ কর তবে বিরুদ্ধে তোমার কোন অভিভাবক ও রক্ষক থাকিবে না।

And indeed We sent Messengers before you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم) and made for them wives and offspring. And it was not for a Messenger to bring a sign except by Allah's Leave. (For) every matter there is a Decree (from Allah). [Tafsir Al-Tabari]

And verily We sent messengers (to mankind) before thee, and We appointed for them wives and offspring, and it was not (given) to any messenger that he should bring a portent save by Allah's leave. For everything there is a time prescribed.

Allah effaceth what He will, and establisheth (what He will), and with Him is the source of ordinance.

Whether We show you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم) part of what We have promised them or cause you to die, your duty is only to convey (the Message) and on Us is the reckoning.

See they not that We gradually reduce the land (of the disbelievers, by giving it to the believers, in war victories) from its outlying borders. And Allah judges, there is none to put back His Judgement and He is Swift at reckoning.

See they not how we aim to the land, reducing it of its outlying parts ? (When) Allah doometh there is none that can postpone His doom, and He is swift at reckoning.

উহারা কি দেখে না যে, আমি উহাদের দেশকে চতুর্দিক হইতে সংকুচিত করিয়া আনিতেছি? আদেশ করেন তাহার আদেশ রদ করিবার কেহ নাই এবং তিনি হিসাব গ্রহনে তৎপর।

And verily, those before them did devise plots, but all planning is Allah's. He knows what every person earns, and the disbelievers will know who gets the good end (final destination).

Those who were before them plotted; but all plotting is Allah's. He knoweth that which each soul earneth. The disbelievers will come to know for whom will be the sequel of the (heavenly) Home.

উহাদের পূর্বে যাহারা ছিল তাহারাও চক্রান্ত করিয়াছিল; কিন্তু সমস্ত— ইখতিয়ারে। প্রত্যেক ব্যক্তি যাহা করে তাহা তিনি জানেন এবং কাফিররা শীঘ্রই জানিবে শুভ পরিণাম কাহাদের জন্য।

And those who disbelieved, say: "You (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم) are not a Messenger." Say: "Sufficient as a witness between me and you is Allah and those too who have knowledge of the Scripture (such as 'Abdullah bin Salam and other Jews and Christians who embraced Islam)."

They who disbelieve say: Thou art no messenger (of Allah). Say: Allah, and whosoever hath knowledge of the Scripture, is sufficient witness between me and you.
