1 In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. When Earth is shaken with her (final) earthquake

1 When the earth is shaken with its [final] earthquake

1 In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. When the earth is shaken with its (final) earthquake.

2 And Earth yieldeth up her burdens,

2 And the earth discharges its burdens

2 And when the earth throws out its burdens.

3 And man saith: What aileth her ?

3 And man says, "What is [wrong] with it?" -

3 And man will say: "What is the matter with it?"

4 That day she will relate her chronicles,

4 That Day, it will report its news

4 That Day it will declare its information (about all that happened over it of good or evil).

5 Because thy Lord inspireth her.

5 Because your Lord has commanded it.

5 Because your Lord will inspire it.

6 That day mankind will issue forth in scattered groups to be shown their deeds.

6 That Day, the people will depart separated [into categories] to be shown [the result of] their deeds.

6 That Day mankind will proceed in scattered groups that they may be shown their deeds.

7 And whoso doeth good an atom's weight will see it then,

7 So whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it,

7 So whosoever does good equal to the weight of an atom (or a small ant) shall see it.

8 And whoso doeth ill an atom's weight will see it then.

8 And whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it.

8 And whosoever does evil equal to the weight of an atom (or a small ant) shall see it.
