1 Hal ataka hadeethu alghashiyati

1 Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]?

1 In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming ?

2 Wujoohun yawmaithin khashiAAatun

2 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled,

2 On that day (many) faces will be downcast,

3 AAamilatun nasibatun

3 Working [hard] and exhausted.

3 Toiling, weary,

4 Tasla naran hamiyatan

4 They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire.

4 Scorched by burning fire,

5 Tusqa min AAaynin aniyatin

5 They will be given drink from a boiling spring.

5 Drinking from a boiling spring,

6 Laysa lahum taAAamun illa min dareeAAin

6 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant

6 No food for them save bitter thorn - fruit

7 La yusminu wala yughnee min jooAAin

7 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger.

7 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger.

8 Wujoohun yawmaithin naAAimatun

8 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure.

8 In that day other faces will be calm,

9 LisaAAyiha radiyatun

9 With their effort [they are] satisfied

9 Glad for their effort past,

10 Fee jannatin AAaliyatin

10 In an elevated garden,

10 In a high Garden

11 La tasmaAAu feeha laghiyatan

11 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech.

11 Where they hear no idle speech,

12 Feeha AAaynun jariyatun

12 Within it is a flowing spring.

12 Wherein is a gushing spring,

13 Feeha sururun marfooAAatun

13 Within it are couches raised high

13 Wherein are couches raised

14 Waakwabun mawdooAAatun

14 And cups put in place

14 And goblets set at hand

15 Wanamariqu masfoofatun

15 And cushions lined up

15 And cushions ranged

16 Wazarabiyyu mabthoothatun

16 And carpets spread around.

16 And silken carpets spread.

17 Afala yanthuroona ila alibili kayfa khuliqat

17 Then do they not look at the camels - how they are created?

17 Will they not regard the camels, how they are created ?

18 Waila alssamai kayfa rufiAAat

18 And at the sky - how it is raised?

18 And the heaven, how it is raised ?

19 Waila aljibali kayfa nusibat

19 And at the mountains - how they are erected?

19 And the hills, how they are set up ?

20 Waila alardi kayfa sutihat

20 And at the earth - how it is spread out?

20 And the earth, how it is spread ?

21 Fathakkir innama anta muthakkirun

21 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder.

21 Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer,

22 Lasta AAalayhim bimusaytirin

22 You are not over them a controller.

22 Thou art not at all a warder over them.

23 Illa man tawalla wakafara

23 However, he who turns away and disbelieves -

23 But whoso is averse and disbelieveth,

24 FayuAAaththibuhu Allahu alAAathaba alakbara

24 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment.

24 Allah will punish him with direst punishment.

25 Inna ilayna iyabahum

25 Indeed, to Us is their return.

25 Lo! unto Us is their return

26 Thumma inna AAalayna hisabahum

26 Then indeed, upon Us is their account.

26 And Ours their reckoning.
