প্রথম পূর্ণাঙ্গ সূরা
সূরা আল ফাতিহা অহি নাযিলের প্রাথমিককালে অবতীর্ণ হয়। এ সূরাটিই প্রথম পূর্ণাঙ্গ সূরা হিসেবে নাযিল হয়। এর আগে নাযিল হয় কেবল কিছু বিচ্ছিন্ন আয়াত।
সূরা ফাতিহার কয়েকটি নাম
এই সূরাটি ‘আল ফাতিহা’ নামেই পরিচিত। তবে হাদিসে আরো কয়েকটি নাম উল্লেখ হয়েছে। যেমন :
এক : ফাতিহাতুল কিতাব। অর্থ : আল কিতাব বা আল কুরআনের মুখবন্ধ, ভূমিকা।
দুই : উম্মুল কিতাব। অর্থ : আল কিতাব বা আল কুরআনের মূল বা মূল ভিত্তি।
তিন : উম্মুল কুরআন। অর্থ: আল কুরআনের ভিত্তি বা মূল।
চার : আস্ সাব্উল মাছানি। অর্থ: বার বার পঠিত সাত (আয়াত)।
পাঁচ : আল কুরআনুল আযিম। অর্থ: মহাপঠিত, মহাপাঠ্য, শ্রেষ্ঠ পাঠ।
ছয় : সূরাতুল হামদ। অর্থ: আল্লাহ তায়ালার প্রশংসার সূরা।
সাত : সূরাতুস্ সালাত। অর্থ: সালাতে পাঠ্য সূরা।

In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.
Shakir
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
আবদুস শহীদ নাসিম
সমস্ত প্রশংসা ও কৃতজ্ঞতা শুধুমাত্র আল্লাহর, যিনি রাববুল আলামিন (গোটা সৃষ্টি জগতের রব)।

[All] praise is [due] to Allah, Lord of the worlds -

All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds.

যিনি রহমান ও রহিম (পরম করুণাময়, পরম দয়াবান),

The Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful,
Shakir
The Beneficent, the Merciful.
আবদুস শহীদ নাসিম
(যিনি) প্রতিফল দিবসের মালিক।
Saheeh International
Sovereign of the Day of Recompense.
Shakir
Master of the Day of Judgment.
আবদুস শহীদ নাসিম
আমরা শুধুমাত্র তোমারই ইবাদত করি এবং শুধুমাত্র তোমারই সাহায্য চাই।
Saheeh International
It is You we worship and You we ask for help.
Shakir
Thee do we serve and Thee do we beseech for help.
আবদুস শহীদ নাসিম
তুমি আমাদের হিদায়াত করো (পরিচালিত করো) সিরাতুল মুস্তাকিমের (সরল, সোজা, সঠিক পথের) দিকে।
Saheeh International
Guide us to the straight path -
Shakir
Keep us on the right path.
আবদুস শহীদ নাসিম
তাদের পথে, যাদের প্রতি তুমি অনুগ্রহ করেছো। তাদের পথে নয়, যারা তোমার গজবে (ক্রোধে) পড়েছে। আর তাদের পথেও নয়, যারা হয়ে গেছে পথভ্রষ্ট।
Saheeh International
The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor, not of those who have evoked [Your] anger or of those who are astray.
Shakir
The path of those upon whom Thou hast bestowed favors. Not (the path) of those upon whom Thy wrath is brought down, nor of those who go astray.
