Chapter 53, 62 verses
শপথ নক্ষত্রের, যখন উহা হয় অস্তমিত,
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. By the Star when it setteth,
By the Star when it goes down, -
وَٱلنَّجْمِ إِذَا هَوَىٰ
তোমাদের সঙ্গী বিভ্রান্ত নয়, বিপথগামীও নয়,
Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived;
Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled.
مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمْ وَمَا غَوَىٰ
এবং সে মনগড়া কথাও বলে না।
Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire.
Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire.
وَمَا يَنطِقُ عَنِ ٱلْهَوَىٰٓ
ইহা তো ওহী, যাহা তাহার প্রতি প্রত্যাদেশ হয়,
It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired,
It is no less than inspiration sent down to him:
إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحْىٌ يُوحَىٰ
তাহাকে শিক্ষা দান করে শক্তিশালী,
Which one of mighty powers hath taught him,
He was taught by one Mighty in Power,
عَلَّمَهُۥ شَدِيدُ ٱلْقُوَىٰ
প্রজ্ঞাসম্পন্ন, সে নিজ আকৃতিতে স্থির হইয়াছিল,
One vigorous; and he grew clear to view
Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form);
ذُو مِرَّةٍ فَٱسْتَوَىٰ
তখন সে ঊর্ধ্বদিগন্তে,
When he was on the uppermost horizon.
While he was in the highest part of the horizon:
وَهُوَ بِٱلْأُفُقِ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ
অতঃপর সে তাহার নিকটবর্তী হইল, অতি নিকটবর্তী,
Then he drew nigh and came down
Then he approached and came closer,
ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّىٰ
ফলে তাহাদের মধ্যে দুই ধনুকের ব্যবধান রহিল অথবা উহারও কম।
Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer,
And was at a distance of but two bow - lengths or (even) nearer;
فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ أَوْ أَدْنَىٰ
তখন তাঁহার বান্দার প্রতি যাহা ওহী করিবার তাহা ওহী করিলেন।
And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed.
So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant - (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey.
فَأَوْحَىٰٓ إِلَىٰ عَبْدِهِۦ مَآ أَوْحَىٰ
যাহা সে দেখিয়াছে, তাহার অন্তঃকরণ তাহা অস্বীকার করে নাই;
The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw.
The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw.
مَا كَذَبَ ٱلْفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَىٰٓ
সে যাহা দেখিয়াছে তোমরা কি সে বিষয়ে তাহার সঙ্গে বিতর্ক করিবে?
Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth ?
Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw?
أَفَتُمَٰرُونَهُۥ عَلَىٰ مَا يَرَىٰ
নিশ্চয়ই সে তাহাকে আরেকবার দেখিয়াছিল
And verily he saw him yet another time
For indeed he saw him at a second descent,
وَلَقَدْ رَءَاهُ نَزْلَةً أُخْرَىٰ
প্রান্তবর্তী বদরী বৃক্ষের নিকট,
By the lote - tree of the utmost boundary,
Near the Lote - tree beyond which none may pass:
عِندَ سِدْرَةِ ٱلْمُنتَهَىٰ
যাহার নিকট অবস্থিত বাসোদ্যান।
Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode.
Near it is the Garden of Abode.
عِندَهَا جَنَّةُ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰٓ
যখন বৃক্ষটি, যদ্দ্বারা আচ্ছাদিত হইবার তদ্দ্বারা ছিল আচ্ছাদিত,
When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote - tree,
Behold, the Lote - tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!)
إِذْ يَغْشَى ٱلسِّدْرَةَ مَا يَغْشَىٰ
তাহার দৃষ্টিবিভ্রম হয় নাই, দৃষ্টি লক্ষ্যচ্যুতও হয় নাই।
The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold.
(His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong!
مَا زَاغَ ٱلْبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغَىٰ
সে তো তাহার প্রতিপালকের মহান নিদর্শনাবলী দেখিয়াছিল;
Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord.
For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest!
لَقَدْ رَأَىٰ مِنْ ءَايَٰتِ رَبِّهِ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰٓ
তোমরা কি ভাবিয়া দেখিয়াছ ‘লাত’ ও ‘উয্যা’ সম্বন্ধে
Have ye thought upon Al - Lat and Al - 'Uzza
Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza,
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱللَّٰتَ وَٱلْعُزَّىٰ
এবং তৃতীয় আরেকটি ‘মানাত’ সম্বন্ধে?
And Manat, the third, the other ?
And another, the third (goddess), Manat?
وَمَنَوٰةَ ٱلثَّالِثَةَ ٱلْأُخْرَىٰٓ
তবে কি তোমাদের জন্য পুত্র সন্তান এবং র জন্য কন্যা সন্তান ?
Are yours the males and His the females ?
What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female?
أَلَكُمُ ٱلذَّكَرُ وَلَهُ ٱلْأُنثَىٰ
এই প্রকার বণ্টন তো অসংগত।
That indeed were an unfair division!
Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair!
تِلْكَ إِذًا قِسْمَةٌ ضِيزَىٰٓ
এইগুলি কতক নামমাত্র যাহা তোমাদের পূর্বপুরুষগণ ও তোমরা রাখিয়াছ, যাহার সমর্থনে কোন দলীল প্রেরণ করেন নাই। তাহারা তো অনুমান এবং নিজেদের প্রবৃত্তিরই অনুসরণ করে, অথচ তাহাদের নিকট তাহাদের প্রতিপালকের পথনির্দেশ আসিয়াছে।
They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them.
These are nothing but names which ye have devised, - ye and your fathers, - for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire! - Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord!
إِنْ هِىَ إِلَّآ أَسْمَآءٌ سَمَّيْتُمُوهَآ أَنتُمْ وَءَابَآؤُكُم مَّآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَا مِن سُلْطَٰنٍ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَمَا تَهْوَى ٱلْأَنفُسُ وَلَقَدْ جَآءَهُم مِّن رَّبِّهِمُ ٱلْ
মানুষ যাহা চায় তাহাই কি সে পায়?
Or shall man have what he coveteth ?
Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after?
أَمْ لِلْإِنسَٰنِ مَا تَمَنَّىٰ
বস্তুত ইহকাল ও পরকাল রই।
But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former.
But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong.
فَلِلَّهِ ٱلْءَاخِرَةُ وَٱلْأُولَىٰ
আকাশে কত ফিরিশ্তা রহিয়াছে ; উহাদের সুপারিশ কিছুমাত্র ফলপ্রসূ হইবে না, তবে র অনুমতির পর ; যাহার জন্য তিনি ইচ্ছা করেন ও যাহার প্রতি তিনি সন্তুষ্ট।
And how many angels are in the heavens whose intercession availeth naught save after Allah giveth leave to whom He chooseth and accepteth.
How many - so - ever be the angels in the heavens, their intercession will avail nothing except after Allah has given leave for whom He pleases and that he is acceptable to Him.
وَكَم مِّن مَّلَكٍ فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ لَا تُغْنِى شَفَٰعَتُهُمْ شَيْـًٔا إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعْدِ أَن يَأْذَنَ ٱللَّهُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيَرْضَىٰٓ
যাহারা আখিরাতে বিশ্বাস করে না তাহারাই নারীবাচক নাম দিয়া থাকে ফিরিশ্তাদেরকে;
Lo! it is those who disbelieve in the Hereafter who name the angels with the names of females.
Those who believe not in the Hereafter, name the angels with female names.
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْءَاخِرَةِ لَيُسَمُّونَ ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةَ تَسْمِيَةَ ٱلْأُنثَىٰ
অথচ এই বিষয়ে উহাদের কোন জ্ঞান নাই, উহারা তো কেবল অনুমানেরই অনুসরণ করে; কিন্তু সত্যের মুকাবিলায় অনুমানের কোনই মূল্য নাই।
And they have no knowledge thereof. They follow but a guess, and lo! a guess can never take the place of the truth.
But they have no knowledge therein. They follow nothing but conjecture; and conjecture avails nothing against Truth.
وَمَا لَهُم بِهِۦ مِنْ عِلْمٍ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَإِنَّ ٱلظَّنَّ لَا يُغْنِى مِنَ ٱلْحَقِّ شَيْـًٔا
অতএব যে আমার স্মরণে বিমুখ তুমি তাহাকে উপেক্ষা করিয়া চল; সে তো কেবল পার্থিব জীবনই কামনা করে।
Then withdraw (O Muhammad) from him who fleeth from Our remembrance and desireth but the life of the world.
Therefore shun those who turn away from Our Message and desire nothing but the life of this world.
فَأَعْرِضْ عَن مَّن تَوَلَّىٰ عَن ذِكْرِنَا وَلَمْ يُرِدْ إِلَّا ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا
উহাদের জ্ঞানের দৌড় এই পর্যন্ত। তোমার প্রতিপালকই ভাল জানেন কে তাঁহার পথ হইতে বিচ্যুত, তিনিই ভাল জানেন কে সৎপথপ্রাপ্ত।
Such is their sum of knowledge. Lo! thy Lord is Best Aware of him who strayeth, and He is Best Aware of him whom goeth right.
That is as far as knowledge will reach them. Verily thy Lord knoweth best those who stray from His Path, and He knoweth best those who receive guidance.
ذَٰلِكَ مَبْلَغُهُم مِّنَ ٱلْعِلْمِ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ ٱهْتَدَىٰ
আকাশমণ্ডলীতে যাহা কিছু আছে ও পৃথিবীতে যাহা কিছু আছে তাহা রই। যাহারা মন্দ কর্ম করে তাহাদেরকে তিনি দেন মন্দ ফল এবং যাহারা সৎকর্ম করে তাহাদেরকে দেন উত্তম পুরস্কার।
And unto Allah belongeth whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth, that He may reward those who do evil with that which they have done, and reward those who do good with goodness.
Yea, to Allah belongs all that is in the heavens and on earth: so that He rewards those who do evil, according to their deeds, and He rewards those who do good, with what is best.
وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ لِيَجْزِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَسَٰٓـُٔوا۟ بِمَا عَمِلُوا۟ وَيَجْزِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا۟ بِٱلْحُسْنَى
উহারাই বিরত থাকে গুরুতর পাপ ও অশ্লীল কার্য হইতে, ছোটখাট অপরাধ করিলেও। তোমার প্রতিপালকের ক্ষমা অপরিসীম ; তোমাদের সম্পর্কে সম্যক অবগত - যখন তিনি তোমাদেরকে সৃষ্টি করিয়াছিলেন মৃত্তিকা হইতে এবং যখন তোমরা মাতৃগর্ভে ভ্রণরূপে ছিলে। অতএব তোমরা আত্মপ্রশংসা করিও না, তিনিই সম্যক জানেন কে।
Those who avoid enormities of sin and abominations, save the unwilled offences - (for them) lo! thy Lord is of vast mercy. He is Best Aware of you (from the time) when He created you from the earth, and when ye were hidden in the bellies of your mothers. Therefor ascribe not purity unto yourselves. He is Best Aware of him who wardeth off (evil).
Those who avoid great sins and shameful deeds, only (falling into) small faults, - verily thy Lord is ample in forgiveness. He knows you well when He brings you out of the earth, And when ye are hidden in your mothers' wombs. Therefore justify not yourselves: He knows best who it is that guards against evil.
ٱلَّذِينَ يَجْتَنِبُونَ كَبَٰٓئِرَ ٱلْإِثْمِ وَٱلْفَوَٰحِشَ إِلَّا ٱللَّمَمَ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ وَٰسِعُ ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِكُمْ إِذْ أَنشَأَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَرْضِ وَإِذْ أَنتُمْ أَجِنَّةٌ فِى بُطُونِ أُمَّه
তুমি কি দেখিয়াছ সেই ব্যক্তিকে যে মুখ ফিরাইয়া নেয়;
Didst thou (O Muhammad) observe him who turned away,
Seest thou one who turns back,
أَفَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى تَوَلَّىٰ
এবং দান করে সামান্যই, পরে বন্ধ করিয়া দেয়?
And gave a little, then was grudging ?
Gives a little, then hardens (his heart)?
وَأَعْطَىٰ قَلِيلًا وَأَكْدَىٰٓ
তাহার কি অদৃশ্যের জ্ঞান আছে যে, সে প্রত্যক্ষ করে?
Hath he knowledge of the Unseen so that he seeth ?
What! Has he knowledge of the Unseen so that he can see?
أَعِندَهُۥ عِلْمُ ٱلْغَيْبِ فَهُوَ يَرَىٰٓ
তাহাকে কি অবগত করা হয় নাই যাহা আছে মূসার কিতাবে,
Or hath he not had news of what is in the books of Moses
Nay, is he not acquainted with what is in the Books of Moses -
أَمْ لَمْ يُنَبَّأْ بِمَا فِى صُحُفِ مُوسَىٰ
এবং ইব্রাহীমের কিতাবে, যে পালন করিয়াছিল তাহার দায়িত্ব?
And Abraham who paid his debt:
And of Abraham who fulfilled his engagements? -
وَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ ٱلَّذِى وَفَّىٰٓ
উহা এই যে, কোন বহনকারী অপরের বোঝা বহন করিবে না,
That no laden one shall bear another's load,
Namely, that no bearer of burdens can bear the burden of another;
أَلَّا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌ وِزْرَ أُخْرَىٰ
আর এই যে, মানুষ তাহাই পায় যাহা সে করে,
And that man hath only that for which he maketh effort,
That man can have nothing but what he strives for;
وَأَن لَّيْسَ لِلْإِنسَٰنِ إِلَّا مَا سَعَىٰ
আর এই যে, তাহার কর্ম অচিরেই দেখান হইবে -
And that his effort will be seen.
That (the fruit of) his striving will soon come in sight:
وَأَنَّ سَعْيَهُۥ سَوْفَ يُرَىٰ
অতঃপর তাহাকে দেওয়া হইবে পূর্ণ প্রতিদান,
And afterward he will be repaid for it with fullest payment;
Then will he be rewarded with a reward complete;
ثُمَّ يُجْزَىٰهُ ٱلْجَزَآءَ ٱلْأَوْفَىٰ
আর এই যে, সমস্ত কিছুর সমাপ্তি তো তোমার প্রতিপালকের নিকট,
And that thy Lord, He is the goal;
That to thy Lord is the final Goal;
وَأَنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلْمُنتَهَىٰ
আর এই যে, তিনিই হাসান, তিনিই কাঁদান,
And that He it is who maketh laugh, and maketh weep,
That it is He Who granteth Laughter and Tears;
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَضْحَكَ وَأَبْكَىٰ
আর এই যে, তিনিই মারেন, তিনিই বাঁচান,
And that He it is Who giveth death and giveth life;
That it is He Who granteth Death and Life;
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَمَاتَ وَأَحْيَا
আর এই যে, তিনিই সৃষ্টি করেন যুগল - পুরুষ ও নারী
And that He createth the two spouses, the male and the female,
That He did create in pairs, - male and female,
وَأَنَّهُۥ خَلَقَ ٱلزَّوْجَيْنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰ
শুক্রবিন্দু হইতে, যখন উহা স্খলিত হয়,
From a drop (of seed) when it is poured forth;
From a seed when lodged (in its place);
مِن نُّطْفَةٍ إِذَا تُمْنَىٰ
আর এই যে, পুনরুত্থান ঘটাইবার দায়িত্ব তাঁহারই,
And that He hath ordained the second bringing forth;
That He hath promised a Second Creation (Raising of the Dead);
وَأَنَّ عَلَيْهِ ٱلنَّشْأَةَ ٱلْأُخْرَىٰ
আর এই যে, তিনিই অভাবমুক্ত করেন ও সম্পদ দান করেন,
And that He it is Who enricheth and contenteth;
That it is He Who giveth wealth and satisfaction;
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَغْنَىٰ وَأَقْنَىٰ
আর এই যে, তিনি শি‘রা নক্ষত্রের মালিক।
And that He it is Who is the Lord of Sirius;
That He is the Lord of Sirius (the Mighty Star);
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ رَبُّ ٱلشِّعْرَىٰ
আর এই যে, তিনিই প্রাচীন ‘আদ সম্প্রদায়কে ধ্বংস করিয়াছিলেন
And that He destroyed the former (tribe of) A'ad,
And that it is He Who destroyed the (powerful) ancient 'Ad (people),
وَأَنَّهُۥٓ أَهْلَكَ عَادًا ٱلْأُولَىٰ
এবং সামূদ সম্প্রদায়কেও; কাহাকেও তিনি বাকি রাখেন নাই
And (the tribe of) Thamud He spared not;
And the Thamud nor gave them a lease of perpetual life.
وَثَمُودَا۟ فَمَآ أَبْقَىٰ
আর ইহাদের পূর্বে নূহের সম্প্রদায়কেও, উহারা ছিল অতিশয় ও অবাধ্য।
And the folk of Noah aforetime, Lo! they were more unjust and more rebellious;
And before them, the people of Noah, for that they were (all) most unjust and most insolent transgressors,
وَقَوْمَ نُوحٍ مِّن قَبْلُ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ هُمْ أَظْلَمَ وَأَطْغَىٰ
উল্টানো আবাসভূমিকে নিক্ষেপ করিয়াছিলেন,
And Al - Mu'tafikah He destroyed
And He destroyed the Overthrown Cities (of Sodom and Gomorrah).
وَٱلْمُؤْتَفِكَةَ أَهْوَىٰ
উহাকে আচ্ছন্ন করিল কী সর্বগ্রাসী শাস্তি!
So that there covered them that which did cover.
So that (ruins unknown) have covered them up.
فَغَشَّىٰهَا مَا غَشَّىٰ
তবে তুমি তোমার প্রতিপালকের কোন্ অনুগ্রহ সম্পর্কে সন্দেহ পোষণ করিবে?
Concerning which then, of the bounties of thy Lord, canst thou dispute ?
Then which of the gifts of thy Lord, (O man,) wilt thou dispute about?
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكَ تَتَمَارَىٰ
অতীতের সতর্ককারীদের ন্যায় এই নবীও এক সতর্ককারী।
This is a warner of the warners of old.
This is a Warner, of the (series of) Warners of old!
هَٰذَا نَذِيرٌ مِّنَ ٱلنُّذُرِ ٱلْأُولَىٰٓ
কিয়ামত আসন্ন,
The threatened Hour is nigh.
The (Judgment) ever approaching draws nigh:
أَزِفَتِ ٱلْءَازِفَةُ
ব্যতীত কেহই ইহা ব্যক্ত করিতে সক্ষম নয়।
None beside Allah can disclose it.
No (soul) but Allah can lay it bare.
لَيْسَ لَهَا مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ كَاشِفَةٌ
তোমরা কি এই কথায় বিস্ময় বোধ করিতেছ!
Marvel ye then at this statement,
Do ye then wonder at this recital?
أَفَمِنْ هَٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ تَعْجَبُونَ
এবং হাসিঠাট্টা করিতেছ! ক্রন্দন করিতেছ না?
And laugh and not weep,
And will ye laugh and not weep, -
وَتَضْحَكُونَ وَلَا تَبْكُونَ
তোমরা তো উদাসীন,
While ye amuse yourselves ?
Wasting your time in vanities?
وَأَنتُمْ سَٰمِدُونَ
অতএব কে সিজ্দা কর এবং তাঁহারই ‘ইবাদত কর।
Rather prostrate yourselves before Allah and serve Him.
But fall ye down in prostration to Allah, and adore (Him)!
فَٱسْجُدُوا۟ لِلَّهِ وَٱعْبُدُوا۟
