আল্লাহর নামে শুরু করছি, পরম করুণাময় পরম দয়ালু; কারিয়াঁ,

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. The Calamity!

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ الْقَارِعَةُ
সমকালীন বাংলা
কারিয়াঁ কী?

What is the Calamity ?

مَا الْقَارِعَةُ
সমকালীন বাংলা
আর তুমি কি জানো কারিয়াঁ কী?

Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Calamity is!

وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْقَارِعَةُ
সমকালীন বাংলা
সেদিন মানুষ হবে ছড়িয়ে পড়া পতঙ্গের মতো,

A day wherein mankind will be as thickly - scattered moths

يَوْمَ يَكُونُ النَّاسُ كَالْفَرَاشِ الْمَبْثُوثِ
সমকালীন বাংলা
এবং পাহাড়গুলো হবে ধোঁয়াটে তুলোর মতো,

And the mountains will become as carded wool.

وَتَكُونُ الْجِبَالُ كَالْعِهْنِ الْمَنفُوشِ
সমকালীন বাংলা
তখন যার পাল্লা ভারী হবে,

Then, as for him whose scales are heavy (with good works),

فَأَمَّا مَن ثَقُلَتْ مَوَازِينُهُ
সমকালীন বাংলা
সে থাকবে তৃপ্তিময় জীবনে,

He will live a pleasant life.

فَهُوَ فِي عِيشَةٍ رَّاضِيَةٍ
সমকালীন বাংলা
আর যার পাল্লা হালকা হবে,

But as for him whose scales are light,

وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَازِينُهُ
সমকালীন বাংলা
তার আশ্রয় হবে হাবিয়ায়,

A bereft and Hungry One will be his mother,

فَأُمُّهُ هَاوِيَةٌ
সমকালীন বাংলা
আর তুমি কি জানো তা কী?

Ah, what will convey unto thee what she is! -

وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا هِيَهْ
সমকালীন বাংলা
এটি আগুন।
