Saheeh International

1 By those [winds] scattering [dust] dispersing

1 In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. By those that winnow with a winnowing

1 In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. By (the winds) that scatter dust.

Saheeh International

2 And those [clouds] carrying a load [of water]

2 And those that bear the burden (of the rain)

2 And (the clouds) that bear heavy weight of water.

Saheeh International

3 And those [ships] sailing with ease

Pickthall

3 And those that glide with ease (upon the sea)

3 And (the ships) that float with ease and gentleness.

Saheeh International

4 And those [angels] apportioning [each] matter,

Pickthall

4 And those who distribute (blessings) by command,

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

4 And those (angels) who distribute (provisions, rain, and other blessings) by (Allah's) Command.

Saheeh International

5 Indeed, what you are promised is true.

Pickthall

5 Lo! that wherewith ye are threatened is indeed true,

5 Verily, that which you are promised (i.e. Resurrection in the Hereafter and receiving the reward or punishment of good or bad deeds) is surely true.

Saheeh International

6 And indeed, the recompense is to occur.

6 And lo! the judgment will indeed befall.

6 And verily, the Recompense is sure to happen.

7 By the heaven containing pathways,

7 By the heaven full of paths,

7 By the heaven full of paths,

Saheeh International

8 Indeed, you are in differing speech.

8 Lo! ye, forsooth, are of various opinion (concerning the truth).

8 Certainly, you have different ideas (about Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم and the Qur'an).

Saheeh International

9 Deluded away from the Qur'an is he who is deluded.

Pickthall

9 He is made to turn away from it who is (himself) averse.

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

9 Turned aside therefrom (i.e. from Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم and the Qur'an) is he who is turned aside (by the Decree and Preordainment القضاء والقدر of Allah).

10 Destroyed are the falsifiers

10 Accursed be the conjecturers

10 Cursed be the liars

Saheeh International

11 Who are within a flood [of confusion] and heedless.

Pickthall

11 Who are careless in an abyss!

11 Who are under a cover of heedlessness (think not about the gravity of the Hereafter),

12 They ask, "When is the Day of Recompense?"

12 They ask: When is the Day of Judgment ?

12 They ask: "When will be the Day of Recompense?"

Saheeh International

13 [It is] the Day they will be tormented over the Fire

13 (It is) the day when they will be tormented at the Fire,

13 (It will be) a Day when they will be tried (punished i.e. burnt) over the Fire!

Saheeh International

14 [And will be told], "Taste your torment. This is that for which you were impatient."

Pickthall

14 (And it will be said unto them): Taste your torment (which ye inflicted). This is what ye sought to hasten.

14 "Taste you your trial (punishment i.e. burning)! This is what you used to ask to be hastened!"

Saheeh International

15 Indeed, the righteous will be among gardens and springs,

15 Lo! those who keep from evil will dwell amid gardens and watersprings,

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

15 Verily, the Muttaqun (the pious. See V.2:2) will be in the midst of Gardens and Springs (in the Paradise),

Saheeh International

16 Accepting what their Lord has given them. Indeed, they were before that doers of good.

16 Taking that which their Lord giveth them; for lo! aforetime they were doers of good;

16 Taking joy in the things which their Lord has given them. Verily, they were before this Muhsinun (good-doers. See V.2:112).

17 They used to sleep but little of the night,

17 They used to sleep but little of the night,

17 They used to sleep but little by night [invoking their Lord (Allah) and praying, with fear and hope].

Saheeh International

18 And in the hours before dawn they would ask forgiveness,

Pickthall

18 And ere the dawning of each day would seek forgiveness,

18 And in the hours before dawn, they were (found) asking (Allah) for forgiveness.

Saheeh International

19 And from their properties was [given] the right of the [needy] petitioner and the deprived.

Pickthall

19 And in their wealth the beggar and the outcast had due share.

19 And in their properties there was the right of the Sa'il (the beggar who asks) and the Mahrum (the poor who does not ask others) .

Saheeh International

20 And on the earth are signs for the certain [in faith]

Pickthall

20 And in the earth are portents for those whose faith is sure.

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

20 And on the earth are signs for those who have Faith with certainty.

Saheeh International

21 And in yourselves. Then will you not see?

Pickthall

21 And (also) in yourselves. Can ye then not see ?

21 And also in your ownselves. Will you not then see?

Saheeh International

22 And in the heaven is your provision and whatever you are promised.

Pickthall

22 And in the heaven is your providence and that which ye are promised;

22 And in the heaven is your provision, and that which you are promised.

Saheeh International

23 Then by the Lord of the heaven and earth, indeed, it is truth - just as [sure as] it is that you are speaking.

23 And by the Lord of the heavens and the earth, it is the truth, even as (it is true) that ye speak.

23 Then by the Lord of the heaven and the earth, it is the truth (i.e. what has been promised to you), just as it is the truth that you can speak.

Saheeh International

24 Has there reached you the story of the honored guests of Abraham? -

24 Hath the story of Abraham's honoured guests reached thee (O Muhammad) ?

24 Has the story reached you, of the honoured guests [three angels; Jibril (Gabriel) along with another two] of Ibrahim (Abraham)?

25 When they entered upon him and said, "[We greet you with] peace." He answered, "[And upon you] peace, [you are] a people unknown.

25 When they came in unto him and said: Peace! he answered, Peace! (and thought): Folk unknown (to me).

25 When they came in to him and said: "Salam, (peace be upon you)!" He answered: "Salam, (peace be upon you)," and said: "You are a people unknown to me."

26 Then he went to his family and came with a fat [roasted] calf

26 Then he went apart unto his housefolk so that they brought a fatted calf;

26 Then he turned to his household, and brought out a roasted calf [as the property of Ibrahim (Abraham) was mainly cows].

27 And placed it near them; he said, "Will you not eat?"

27 And he set it before them, saying: Will ye not eat ?

27 And placed it before them, (saying): "Will you not eat?"

Saheeh International

28 And he felt from them apprehension. They said, "Fear not," and gave him good tidings of a learned boy.

Pickthall

28 Then he conceived a fear of them. They said: Fear not! and gave him tidings of (the birth of) a wise son.

28 Then he conceived fear of them (when they ate not). They said: "Fear not." And they gave him glad tidings of a son having knowledge (about Allah and His religion of True Monotheism).

Saheeh International

29 And his wife approached with a cry [of alarm] and struck her face and said, "[I am] a barren old woman!"

Pickthall

29 Then his wife came forward, making moan, and smote her face, and cried: A barren old woman!

29 Then his wife came forward with a loud voice: she smote her face, and said: "A barren old woman!"

Saheeh International

30 They said, "Thus has said your Lord; indeed, He is the Wise, the Knowing."

Pickthall

30 They said: Even so saith thy Lord. Lo! He is the Wise, the Knower.

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

30 They said: "Even so says your Lord. Verily, He is the All-Wise, the All-Knower."

Saheeh International

31 [Abraham] said, "Then what is your business [here], O messengers?"

Pickthall

31 (Abraham) said: And (afterward) what is your errand, O ye sent (from Allah) ?

31 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Then for what purpose you have come, O Messengers?"

Saheeh International

32 They said, "Indeed, we have been sent to a people of criminals

Pickthall

32 They said: Lo! we are sent unto a guilty folk,

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

32 They said: "We have been sent to a people who are Mujrimun (polytheists, sinners, criminals, disbelievers in Allah)

Saheeh International

33 To send down upon them stones of clay,

Pickthall

33 That we may send upon them stones of clay,

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

33 To send down upon them stones of baked clay.

Saheeh International

34 Marked in the presence of your Lord for the transgressors."

Pickthall

34 Marked by thy Lord for (the destruction of) the wanton.

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

34 Marked by your Lord for the Musrifun (polytheists, criminals, sinners - those who trespass Allah's set limits in evil-doings by committing great sins).

Saheeh International

35 So We brought out whoever was in the cities of the believers.

35 Then we brought forth such believers as were there.

35 So We brought out from therein the believers.

Saheeh International

36 And We found not within them other than a [single] house of Muslims.

Pickthall

36 But We found there but one house of those surrendered (to Allah).

36 But We found not there any household of the Muslims except one [of Lut (Lot) and his two daughters].

Saheeh International

37 And We left therein a sign for those who fear the painful punishment.

Pickthall

37 And We left behind therein a portent for those who fear a painful doom.

37 And We have left there a sign (i.e. the place of the Dead Sea in Palestine) for those who fear the painful torment.

Saheeh International

38 And in Moses [was a sign], when We sent him to Pharaoh with clear authority.

Pickthall

38 And in Moses (too, there is a portent) when We sent him unto Pharaoh with clear warrant,

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

38 And in Musa (Moses) (too, there is a sign), when We sent him to Fir'aun (Pharaoh) with a manifest authority.

Saheeh International

39 But he turned away with his supporters and said," A magician or a madman."

Pickthall

39 But he withdrew (confiding) in his might, and said: A wizard or a madman.

39 But [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] turned away (from Belief in might) along with his hosts, and said: "A sorcerer, or a madman."

40 So We took him and his soldiers and cast them into the sea, and he was blameworthy.

40 So We seized him and his hosts and flung them in the sea, for he was reprobate.

40 So We took him and his hosts, and dumped them into the sea, for he was blameworthy.

Saheeh International

41 And in 'Aad [was a sign], when We sent against them the barren wind.

Pickthall

41 And in (the tribe of) A'ad (there is a portent) when we sent the fatal wind against them.

41 And in 'Ad (there is also a sign) when We sent against them the barren wind;

Saheeh International

42 It left nothing of what it came upon but that it made it like disintegrated ruins.

Pickthall

42 It spared naught that it reached, but made it (all) as dust.

42 It spared nothing that it reached, but blew it into broken spreads of rotten ruins.

Saheeh International

43 And in Thamud, when it was said to them, "Enjoy yourselves for a time."

Pickthall

43 And in (the tribe of) Thamud (there is a portent) when it was told them: Take your ease awhile.

43 And in Thamud (there is also a sign), when they were told: "Enjoy yourselves for a while!"

44 But they were insolent toward the command of their Lord, so the thunderbolt seized them while they were looking on.

44 But they rebelled against their Lord's decree, and so the thunderbolt overtook them even while they gazed;

44 But they insolently defied the Command of their Lord, so the Sa'iqah overtook them while they were looking.

Saheeh International

45 And they were unable to arise, nor could they defend themselves.

45 And they were unable to rise up, nor could they help themselves.

45 Then they were unable to rise up, nor could they help themselves.

Saheeh International

46 And [We destroyed] the people of Noah before; indeed, they were a people defiantly disobedient.

Pickthall

46 And the folk of Noah aforetime. Lo! they were licentious folk.

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

46 (So were) the people of Nuh (Noah) before them. Verily, they were a people who were Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah).

Saheeh International

47 And the heaven We constructed with strength, and indeed, We are [its] expander.

Pickthall

47 We have built the heaven with might, and We it is Who make the vast extent (thereof).

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

47 With power did We construct the heaven. Verily, We are Able to extend the vastness of space thereof.

Saheeh International

48 And the earth We have spread out, and excellent is the preparer.

Pickthall

48 And the earth have We laid out, how gracious is the Spreader (thereof)!

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

48 And We have spread out the earth: how Excellent Spreader (thereof) are We!

Saheeh International

49 And of all things We created two mates; perhaps you will remember.

Pickthall

49 And all things We have created by pairs, that haply ye may reflect.

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

49 And of everything We have created pairs, that you may remember (the Grace of Allah).

Saheeh International

50 So flee to Allah. Indeed, I am to you from Him a clear warner.

Pickthall

50 Therefor flee unto Allah; lo! I am a plain warner unto you from him.

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

50 So flee to Allah (from His Torment to His Mercy - Islamic Monotheism). Verily, I (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) am a plain warner to you from Him.

Saheeh International

51 And do not make [as equal] with Allah another deity. Indeed, I am to you from Him a clear warner.

Pickthall

51 And set not any other god along with Allah; lo! I am a plain warner unto you from Him.

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

51 And set not up (or worship not) any other ilah (god) along with Allah [Glorified be He (Alone), Exalted above all that they associate as partners with Him]. Verily, I (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) am a plain warner to you from Him.

Saheeh International

52 Similarly, there came not to those before them any messenger except that they said, "A magician or a madman."

52 Even so there came no messenger unto those before them but they said: A wizard or a madman!

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

52 Likewise, no Messenger came to those before them but they said: "A sorcerer or a madman!"

Saheeh International

53 Did they suggest it to them? Rather, they [themselves] are a transgressing people.

Pickthall

53 Have they handed down (the saying) as an heirloom one unto another ? Nay, but they are froward folk.

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

53 Have they (the people of the past) transmitted this saying to these (Quraish pagans)? Nay, they are themselves a people transgressing beyond bounds (in disbelief)!

Saheeh International

54 So leave them, [O Muhammad], for you are not to be blamed.

Pickthall

54 So withdraw from them (O Muhammad), for thou art in no wise blameworthy,

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

54 So turn away (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) from them (Quraish pagans), you are not blame-worthy (as you have conveyed Allah's Message).

Saheeh International

55 And remind, for indeed, the reminder benefits the believers.

Pickthall

55 And warn, for warning profiteth believers.

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

55 And remind (by preaching the Qur'an, O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم), for verily, the reminding profits the believers.

Saheeh International

56 And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.

Pickthall

56 I created the jinn and humankind only that they might worship Me.

56 And I (Allah) created not the jinn and mankind except that they should worship Me (Alone).

Saheeh International

57 I do not want from them any provision, nor do I want them to feed Me.

Pickthall

57 I seek no livelihood from them, nor do I ask that they should feed Me.

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

57 I seek not any provision from them (i.e. provision for themselves or for My creatures) nor do I ask that they should feed Me (i.e. feed themselves or My creatures).

Saheeh International

58 Indeed, it is Allah who is the [continual] Provider, the firm possessor of strength.

58 Lo! Allah! He it is that giveth livelihood, the Lord of unbreakable might.

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

58 Verily, Allah is the All-Provider, Owner of Power, the Most Strong.

Saheeh International

59 And indeed, for those who have wronged is a portion [of punishment] like the portion of their predecessors, so let them not impatiently urge Me.

Pickthall

59 And lo! for those who (now) do wrong there is an evil day like unto the evil day (which came for) their likes (of old); so let them not ask Me to hasten on (that day).

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

59 And verily, for those who do wrong, there is a portion of torment like to the evil portion of torment (which came for) their likes (of old); so let them not ask Me to hasten on!

Saheeh International

60 And woe to those who have disbelieved from their Day which they are promised.

60 And woe unto those who disbelieve, from (that) their day which they are promised.

60 Then woe to those who disbelieve (in Allah and His Oneness - Islamic Monotheism) from their Day which they have been promised (for their punishment).
