1 The Most Merciful

1 In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. The Most Gracious (Allah)!

1 Alrrahmanu

2 Taught the Qur'an,

2 He has taught (you mankind) the Qur'an (by His Mercy).

2 AAallama alqurana

3 Created man,

3 He created man.

3 Khalaqa alinsana

4 [And] taught him eloquence.

4 He taught him eloquent speech.

4 AAallamahu albayana

5 The sun and the moon [move] by precise calculation,

5 The sun and the moon run on their fixed courses (exactly) calculated with measured out stages for each (for reckoning).

5 Alshshamsu waalqamaru bihusbanin

6 And the stars and trees prostrate.

6 And the herbs (or stars) and the trees both prostrate themselves (to Allah - See V.22:18) (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

6 Waalnnajmu waalshshajaru yasjudani

7 And the heaven He raised and imposed the balance

7 And the heaven: He has raised it high, and He has set up the Balance.

7 Waalssamaa rafaAAaha wawadaAAa almeezana

8 That you not transgress within the balance.

8 In order that you may not transgress (due) balance.

8 Alla tatghaw fee almeezani

9 And establish weight in justice and do not make deficient the balance.

9 And observe the weight with equity and do not make the balance deficient.

9 Waaqeemoo alwazna bialqisti wala tukhsiroo almeezana

10 And the earth He laid [out] for the creatures.

10 And the earth: He has put down (laid) for the creatures.

10 Waalarda wadaAAaha lilanami

11 Therein is fruit and palm trees having sheaths [of dates]

11 Therein are fruits and date-palms producing sheathed fruit-stalks (enclosing dates).

11 Feeha fakihatun waalnnakhlu thatu alakmami

12 And grain having husks and scented plants.

12 And also corn, with (its) leaves and stalk for fodder, and sweet-scented plants.

12 Waalhabbu thoo alAAasfi waalrrayhani

13 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

13 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?

13 Fabiayyi alai rabbikuma tukaththibani

14 He created man from clay like [that of] pottery.

14 He created man (Adam) from sounding clay like the clay of pottery.

14 Khalaqa alinsana min salsalin kaalfakhkhari

15 And He created the jinn from a smokeless flame of fire.

15 And the jinn: He created from a smokeless flame of fire.

15 Wakhalaqa aljanna min marijin min narin

16 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

16 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?

16 Fabiayyi alai rabbikuma tukaththibani

17 [He is] Lord of the two sunrises and Lord of the two sunsets.

17 (He is) the Lord of the two easts (places of sunrise during early summer and early winter) and the Lord of the two wests (places of sunset during early summer and early winter).

17 Rabbu almashriqayni warabbu almaghribayni

18 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

18 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?

18 Fabiayyi alai rabbikuma tukaththibani

19 He released the two seas, meeting [side by side];

19 He has let loose the two seas (the salt and fresh water) meeting together.

19 Maraja albahrayni yaltaqiyani

20 Between them is a barrier [so] neither of them transgresses.

20 Between them is a barrier which none of them can transgress.

20 Baynahuma barzakhun la yabghiyani

21 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

21 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?

21 Fabiayyi alai rabbikuma tukaththibani

22 From both of them emerge pearl and coral.

22 Out of them both come out pearl and coral.

22 Yakhruju minhuma alluluo waalmarjanu

23 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

23 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?

23 Fabiayyi alai rabbikuma tukaththibani

24 And to Him belong the ships [with sails] elevated in the sea like mountains.

24 And His are the ships going and coming in the seas, like mountains.

24 Walahu aljawari almunshaatu fee albahri kaalaAAlami

25 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

25 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?

25 Fabiayyi alai rabbikuma tukaththibani

26 Everyone upon the earth will perish,

26 Whatsoever is on it (the earth) will perish.

26 Kullu man AAalayha fanin

27 And there will remain the Face of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor.

27 And the Face of your Lord full of Majesty and Honour will remain forever.

27 Wayabqa wajhu rabbika thoo aljalali waalikrami

28 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

28 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?

28 Fabiayyi alai rabbikuma tukaththibani

29 Whoever is within the heavens and earth asks Him; every day He is bringing about a matter.

29 Whosoever is in the heavens and on earth begs of Him (its needs from Him). Every day He is (engaged) in some affair (such as giving honour or disgrace to some, life or death to some, etc.)!

29 Yasaluhu man fee alssamawati waalardi kulla yawmin huwa fee shanin

30 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

30 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?

30 Fabiayyi alai rabbikuma tukaththibani

31 We will attend to you, O prominent beings.

31 We shall attend to you, O you two classes (jinn and men)!

31 Sanafrughu lakum ayyuha alththaqalani

32 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

32 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?

32 Fabiayyi alai rabbikuma tukaththibani

33 O company of jinn and mankind, if you are able to pass beyond the regions of the heavens and the earth, then pass. You will not pass except by authority [from Allah].

33 O assembly of jinn and men! If you have power to pass beyond the zones of the heavens and the earth, then pass beyond (them)! But you will never be able to pass them, except with authority (from Allah)!

33 Ya maAAshara aljinni waalinsi ini istataAAtum an tanfuthoo min aqtari alssamawati waalardi faonfuthoo la tanfuthoona illa bisultanin

34 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

34 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?

34 Fabiayyi alai rabbikuma tukaththibani

35 There will be sent upon you a flame of fire and smoke, and you will not defend yourselves.

35 There will be sent against you both, smokeless flames of fire and (molten) brass, and you will not be able to defend yourselves.

35 Yursalu AAalaykuma shuwathun min narin wanuhasun fala tantasirani

36 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

36 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?

36 Fabiayyi alai rabbikuma tukaththibani

37 And when the heaven is split open and becomes rose - colored like oil -

37 Then when the heaven is rent asunder, and it becomes rosy or red like red-oil, or red hide - [See V.70:8]

37 Faitha inshaqqati alssamao fakanat wardatan kaalddihani

38 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -

38 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?

38 Fabiayyi alai rabbikuma tukaththibani

39 Then on that Day none will be asked about his sin among men or jinn.

39 So on that Day no question will be asked of man or jinns as to his sin, [because they have already been known from their faces either white (dwellers of Paradise - true believers of Islamic Monotheism) or black (dwellers of Hell - polytheists; disbelievers, criminals)].

39 Fayawmaithin la yusalu AAan thanbihi insun wala jannun

40 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

40 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?

40 Fabiayyi alai rabbikuma tukaththibani

41 The criminals will be known by their marks, and they will be seized by the forelocks and the feet.

41 The Mujrimun (polytheists, criminals, sinners) will be known by their marks (black faces), and they will be seized by their forelocks and their feet.

41 YuAArafu almujrimoona biseemahum fayukhathu bialnnawasee waalaqdami

42 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

42 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?

42 Fabiayyi alai rabbikuma tukaththibani

43 This is Hell, which the criminals deny.

43 This is the Hell which the Mujrimun (polytheists, criminals, sinners) denied.

43 Hathihi jahannamu allatee yukaththibu biha almujrimoona

44 They will go around between it and scalding water, heated [to the utmost degree].

44 They will go between it (Hell) and the fierce boiling water!

44 Yatoofoona baynaha wabayna hameemin anin

45 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

45 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?

45 Fabiayyi alai rabbikuma tukaththibani

46 But for he who has feared the position of his Lord are two gardens -

46 But for him who fears the standing before his Lord, there will be two Gardens (i.e. in Paradise).

46 Waliman khafa maqama rabbihi jannatani

47 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -

47 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?

47 Fabiayyi alai rabbikuma tukaththibani

48 Having [spreading] branches.

48 With spreading branches.

48 Thawata afnanin

49 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

49 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?

49 Fabiayyi alai rabbikuma tukaththibani

50 In both of them are two springs, flowing.

50 In them (both) will be two springs flowing (free).

50 Feehima AAaynani tajriyani

51 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

51 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?

51 Fabiayyi alai rabbikuma tukaththibani

52 In both of them are of every fruit, two kinds.

52 In them (both) will be every kind of fruit in pairs.

52 Feehima min kulli fakihatin zawjani

53 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

53 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?

53 Fabiayyi alai rabbikuma tukaththibani

54 [They are] reclining on beds whose linings are of silk brocade, and the fruit of the two gardens is hanging low.

54 Reclining upon the couches lined with silk brocade, and the fruits of the two Gardens will be near at hand.

54 Muttakieena AAala furushin batainuha min istabraqin wajana aljannatayni danin

55 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

55 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?

55 Fabiayyi alai rabbikuma tukaththibani

56 In them are women limiting [their] glances, untouched before them by man or jinni -

56 Wherein both will be Qasirat-ut-Tarf [chaste females (wives) restraining their glances, desiring none except their husbands], with whom no man or jinni has had tamth before them.

56 Feehinna qasiratu alttarfi lam yatmithhunna insun qablahum wala jannun

57 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -

57 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?

57 Fabiayyi alai rabbikuma tukaththibani

58 As if they were rubies and coral.

58 (In beauty) they are like rubies and coral.

58 Kaannahunna alyaqootu waalmarjanu

59 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

59 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?

59 Fabiayyi alai rabbikuma tukaththibani

60 Is the reward for good [anything] but good?

60 Is there any reward for good other than good?

60 Hal jazao alihsani illa alihsanu

61 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

61 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?

61 Fabiayyi alai rabbikuma tukaththibani

62 And below them both [in excellence] are two [other] gardens -

62 And besides these two, there are two other Gardens (i.e. in Paradise).

62 Wamin doonihima jannatani

63 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -

63 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?

63 Fabiayyi alai rabbikuma tukaththibani

64 Dark green [in color].

64 Dark green (in colour).

64 Mudhammatani

65 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

65 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?

65 Fabiayyi alai rabbikuma tukaththibani

66 In both of them are two springs, spouting.

66 In them (both) will be two springs gushing forth.

66 Feehima AAaynani naddakhatani

67 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

67 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?

67 Fabiayyi alai rabbikuma tukaththibani

68 In both of them are fruit and palm trees and pomegranates.

68 In them (both) will be fruits, and date-palms and pomegranates.

68 Feehima fakihatun wanakhlun warummanun

69 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

69 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?

69 Fabiayyi alai rabbikuma tukaththibani

70 In them are good and beautiful women -

70 Therein (Gardens) will be Khairatun-Hisan [fair (wives) good and beautiful];

70 Feehinna khayratun hisanun

71 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -

71 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?

71 Fabiayyi alai rabbikuma tukaththibani

72 Fair ones reserved in pavilions -

72 Hur (beautiful, fair females) guarded in pavilions;

72 Hoorun maqsooratun fee alkhiyami

73 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -

73 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?

73 Fabiayyi alai rabbikuma tukaththibani

74 Untouched before them by man or jinni -

74 With whom no man or jinni has had tamth before them.

74 Lam yatmithhunna insun qablahum wala jannun

75 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -

75 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?

75 Fabiayyi alai rabbikuma tukaththibani

76 Reclining on green cushions and beautiful fine carpets.

76 Reclining on green cushions and rich beautiful mattresses.

76 Muttakieena AAala rafrafin khudrin waAAabqariyyin hisanin

77 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

77 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?

77 Fabiayyi alai rabbikuma tukaththibani

78 Blessed is the name of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor.

78 Blessed be the Name of your Lord (Allah), the Owner of Majesty and Honour.
