Saheeh International

1 By those [winds] sent forth in gusts

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

1 In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. By the winds (or angels or the Messengers of Allah) sent forth one after another.

Transliteration

1 Waalmursalati AAurfan

Saheeh International

2 And the winds that blow violently

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

2 And by the winds that blow violently.

Transliteration

2 FaalAAasifati AAasfan

Saheeh International

3 And [by] the winds that spread [clouds]

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

3 And by the winds that scatter clouds and rain.

Transliteration

3 Waalnnashirati nashran

Saheeh International

4 And those [angels] who bring criterion

4 And by the Verses (of the Qur'an) that separate the right from the wrong.

Transliteration

4 Faalfariqati farqan

Saheeh International

5 And those [angels] who deliver a message

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

5 And by the angels that bring the revelations to the Messengers,

Transliteration

5 Faalmulqiyati thikran

Saheeh International

6 As justification or warning,

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

6 To cut off all excuses or to warn.

Transliteration

6 AAuthran aw nuthran

Saheeh International

7 Indeed, what you are promised is to occur.

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

7 Surely, what you are promised must come to pass.

Transliteration

7 Innama tooAAadoona lawaqiAAun

Saheeh International

8 So when the stars are obliterated

8 Then when the stars lose their lights.

Transliteration

8 Faitha alnnujoomu tumisat

Saheeh International

9 And when the heaven is opened

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

9 And when the heaven is cleft asunder.

Transliteration

9 Waitha alssamao furijat

Saheeh International

10 And when the mountains are blown away

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

10 And when the mountains are blown away.

Transliteration

10 Waitha aljibalu nusifat

Saheeh International

11 And when the messengers' time has come...

11 And when the Messengers are gathered to their time appointed.

Transliteration

11 Waitha alrrusulu oqqitat

Saheeh International

12 For what Day was it postponed?

12 For what Day are these signs postponed?

Transliteration

12 Liayyi yawmin ojjilat

Saheeh International

13 For the Day of Judgement.

13 For the Day of Sorting Out (the men of Paradise from the men destined for Hell).

Transliteration

13 Liyawmi alfasli

Saheeh International

14 And what can make you know what is the Day of Judgement?

14 And what will explain to you what is the Day of Sorting Out?

Transliteration

14 Wama adraka ma yawmu alfasli

Saheeh International

15 Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

15 Woe that Day to the deniers (of the Day of Resurrection)!

Transliteration

15 Waylun yawmaithin lilmukaththibeena

Saheeh International

16 Did We not destroy the former peoples?

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

16 Did We not destroy the ancients?

Transliteration

16 Alam nuhliki alawwaleena

Saheeh International

17 Then We will follow them with the later ones.

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

17 So shall We make later generations to follow them.

Transliteration

17 Thumma nutbiAAuhumu alakhireena

Saheeh International

18 Thus do We deal with the criminals.

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

18 Thus do We deal with the Mujrimun (polytheists, disbelievers, sinners, criminals).

Transliteration

18 Kathalika nafAAalu bialmujrimeena

Saheeh International

19 Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

19 Woe that Day to the deniers (of the Day of Resurrection)!

Transliteration

19 Waylun yawmaithin lilmukaththibeena

Saheeh International

20 Did We not create you from a liquid disdained?

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

20 Did We not create you from a despised water (semen)?

Transliteration

20 Alam nakhluqkum min main maheenin

Saheeh International

21 And We placed it in a firm lodging

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

21 Then We placed it in a place of safety (womb),

Transliteration

21 FajaAAalnahu fee qararin makeenin

Saheeh International

22 For a known extent.

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

22 For a known period (determined by gestation)?

Transliteration

22 Ila qadarin maAAloomin

Saheeh International

23 And We determined [it], and excellent [are We] to determine.

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

23 So We did measure; and We are the Best to measure (the things).

Transliteration

23 Faqadarna faniAAma alqadiroona

Saheeh International

24 Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

24 Woe that Day to the deniers (of the Day of Resurrection)!

Transliteration

24 Waylun yawmaithin lilmukaththibeena

Saheeh International

25 Have We not made the earth a container

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

25 Have We not made the earth a receptacle

Transliteration

25 Alam najAAali alarda kifatan

Saheeh International

26 Of the living and the dead?

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

26 For the living and the dead?

Transliteration

26 Ahyaan waamwatan

Saheeh International

27 And We placed therein lofty, firmly set mountains and have given you to drink sweet water.

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

27 And have placed therein firm, and tall mountains, and have given you to drink sweet water?

Transliteration

27 WajaAAalna feeha rawasiya shamikhatin waasqaynakum maan furatan

Saheeh International

28 Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

28 Woe that Day to the deniers (of the Day of Resurrection)!

Transliteration

28 Waylun yawmaithin lilmukaththibeena

Saheeh International

29 [They will be told], "Proceed to that which you used to deny.

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

29 (It will be said to the disbelievers): "Depart you to that which you used to deny!

Transliteration

29 Intaliqoo ila ma kuntum bihi tukaththiboona

Saheeh International

30 Proceed to a shadow [of smoke] having three columns

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

30 "Depart you to a shadow (of Hell-Fire smoke ascending) in three columns,

Transliteration

30 Intaliqoo ila thillin thee thalathi shuAAabin

Saheeh International

31 [But having] no cool shade and availing not against the flame."

31 Neither shady, nor of any use against the fierce flame of the Fire."

Transliteration

31 La thaleelin wala yughnee mina allahabi

Saheeh International

32 Indeed, it throws sparks [as huge] as a fortress,

32 Verily, it (Hell) throws sparks (huge) as Al-Qasr (a fort or a huge log of wood),

Transliteration

32 Innaha tarmee bishararin kaalqasri

Saheeh International

33 As if they were yellowish [black] camels.

33 As if they were yellow camels or bundles of ropes.

Transliteration

33 Kaannahu jimalatun sufrun

Saheeh International

34 Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

34 Woe that Day to the deniers (of the Day of Resurrection)!

Transliteration

34 Waylun yawmaithin lilmukaththibeena

Saheeh International

35 This is a Day they will not speak,

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

35 That will be a Day when they shall not speak (during some part of it),

Transliteration

35 Hatha yawmu la yantiqoona

Saheeh International

36 Nor will it be permitted for them to make an excuse.

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

36 And they will not be permitted to put forth any excuse.

Transliteration

36 Wala yuthanu lahum fayaAAtathiroona

Saheeh International

37 Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

37 Woe that Day to the deniers (of the Day of Resurrection)!

Transliteration

37 Waylun yawmaithin lilmukaththibeena

Saheeh International

38 This is the Day of Judgement; We will have assembled you and the former peoples.

38 That will be a Day of Decision! We have brought you and the men of old together!

Transliteration

38 Hatha yawmu alfasli jamaAAnakum waalawwaleena

Saheeh International

39 So if you have a plan, then plan against Me.

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

39 So if you have a plot, use it against Me (Allah جل جلاله)!

Transliteration

39 Fain kana lakum kaydun fakeedooni

Saheeh International

40 Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

40 Woe that Day to the deniers (of the Day of Resurrection)!

Transliteration

40 Waylun yawmaithin lilmukaththibeena

Saheeh International

41 Indeed, the righteous will be among shades and springs

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

41 Verily, the Muttaqun (the pious. See V.2:2) shall be amidst shades and springs.

Transliteration

41 Inna almuttaqeena fee thilalin waAAuyoonin

Saheeh International

42 And fruits from whatever they desire,

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

42 And fruits, such as they desire.

Transliteration

42 Wafawakiha mimma yashtahoona

Saheeh International

43 [Being told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do."

43 "Eat and drink comfortably for that which you used to do."

Transliteration

43 Kuloo waishraboo haneean bima kuntum taAAmaloona

Saheeh International

44 Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.

44 Verily, thus We reward the Muhsinun (good-doers. See V.2:112).

Transliteration

44 Inna kathalika najzee almuhsineena

Saheeh International

45 Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

45 Woe that Day to the deniers (of the Day of Resurrection)!

Transliteration

45 Waylun yawmaithin lilmukaththibeena

Saheeh International

46 [O disbelievers], eat and enjoy yourselves a little; indeed, you are criminals.

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

46 (O you disbelievers)! Eat and enjoy yourselves (in this worldly life) for a little while. Verily, you are the Mujrimun (polytheists, disbelievers, sinners, criminals).

Transliteration

46 Kuloo watamattaAAoo qaleelan innakum mujrimoona

Saheeh International

47 Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

47 Woe that Day to the deniers (of the Day of Resurrection)!

Transliteration

47 Waylun yawmaithin lilmukaththibeena

Saheeh International

48 And when it is said to them, "Bow [in prayer]," they do not bow.

48 And when it is said to them: "Bow down yourself (in prayer)!" They bow not down (offer not their prayers).

Transliteration

48 Waitha qeela lahumu irkaAAoo la yarkaAAoona

49 Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

49 Woe that Day to the deniers (of the Day of Resurrection)!

Transliteration

49 Waylun yawmaithin lilmukaththibeena

50 Then in what statement after the Qur'an will they believe?

50 Fabiayyi hadeethin baAAdahu yuminoona
