Saheeh International

1 By the sky containing great stars

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

1 In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. By the heaven holding the big stars.

Yusuf Ali

1 By the sky, (displaying) the Zodiacal Signs;

Saheeh International

2 And [by] the promised Day

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

2 And by the Promised Day (i.e. the Day of Resurrection).

Yusuf Ali

2 By the promised Day (of Judgment);

Saheeh International

3 And [by] the witness and what is witnessed,

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

3 And by the Witnessing day (i.e. Friday), and by the Witnessed day [i.e. the day of 'Arafat (Hajj) the ninth of Dhul-Hijjah];

Yusuf Ali

3 By one that witnesses, and the subject of the witness; -

4 Cursed were the companions of the trench

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

4 Cursed were the people of the Ditch (in the story of the Boy and the King).

Yusuf Ali

4 Woe to the makers of the pit (of fire),

Saheeh International

5 [Containing] the fire full of fuel,

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

5 Of fire fed with fuel,

Yusuf Ali

5 Fire supplied (abundantly) with fuel:

Saheeh International

6 When they were sitting near it

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

6 When they sat by it (fire),

Yusuf Ali

6 Behold! they sat over against the (fire),

Saheeh International

7 And they, to what they were doing against the believers, were witnesses.

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

7 And they witnessed what they were doing against the believers (i.e. burning them).

Yusuf Ali

7 And they witnessed (all) that they were doing against the Believers.

Saheeh International

8 And they resented them not except because they believed in Allah, the Exalted in Might, the Praiseworthy,

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

8 And they had no fault except that they believed in Allah, the All-Mighty, Worthy of all Praise!

Yusuf Ali

8 And they ill - treated them for no other reason than that they believed in Allah, Exalted in Power, Worthy of all Praise! -

Saheeh International

9 To whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. And Allah, over all things, is Witness.

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

9 To Whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth! And Allah is Witness over everything.

Yusuf Ali

9 Him to Whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth! And Allah is Witness to all things.

Saheeh International

10 Indeed, those who have tortured the believing men and believing women and then have not repented will have the punishment of Hell, and they will have the punishment of the Burning Fire.

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

10 Verily, those who put into trial the believing men and believing women (by torturing them and burning them), and then do not turn in repentance (to Allah), then they will have the torment of Hell, and they will have the punishment of the burning Fire.

Yusuf Ali

10 Those who persecute (or draw into temptation) the Believers, men and women, and do not turn in repentance, will have the Penalty of Hell: They will have the Penalty of the Burning Fire.

Saheeh International

11 Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds will have gardens beneath which rivers flow. That is the great attainment.

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

11 Verily, those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them will be Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise). That is the great success.

Yusuf Ali

11 For those who believe and do righteous deeds, will be Gardens; beneath which rivers flow: That is the great Salvation, (the fulfilment of all desires),

Saheeh International

12 Indeed, the vengeance of your Lord is severe.

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

12 Verily, (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) the Seizure (punishment) of your Lord is severe and painful. [See V.11:102].

Yusuf Ali

12 Truly strong is the Grip (and Power) of thy Lord.

Saheeh International

13 Indeed, it is He who originates [creation] and repeats.

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

13 Verily, He it is Who begins (punishment) and repeats (punishment in the Hereafter) (or originates the creation of everything, and then repeats it on the Day of Resurrection).

Yusuf Ali

13 It is He Who creates from the very beginning, and He can restore (life).

Saheeh International

14 And He is the Forgiving, the Affectionate,

14 And He is Oft-Forgiving, full of love (towards the pious who are real true believers of Islamic Monotheism),

Yusuf Ali

14 And He is the Oft - Forgiving, Full of Loving - Kindness,

Saheeh International

15 Honorable Owner of the Throne,

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

15 Owner of the throne, the Glorious,

Yusuf Ali

15 Lord of the Throne of Glory,

Saheeh International

16 Effecter of what He intends.

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

16 (He is the) Doer of whatsoever He intends (or wills).

Yusuf Ali

16 Doer (without let) of all that He intends.

Saheeh International

17 Has there reached you the story of the soldiers -

17 Has the story reached you of the hosts,

Yusuf Ali

17 Has the story reached thee, of the forces -

Saheeh International

18 [Those of] Pharaoh and Thamud?

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

18 Of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and Thamud?

Yusuf Ali

18 Of Pharaoh and the Thamud?

Saheeh International

19 But they who disbelieve are in [persistent] denial,

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

19 Nay! The disbelievers (persisted) in denying (Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم and his Message of Islamic Monotheism).

Yusuf Ali

19 And yet the Unbelievers (persist) in rejecting (the Truth)!

Saheeh International

20 While Allah encompasses them from behind.

Hilali & Muhsin Khan

20 And Allah encompasses them from behind! (i.e. all their deeds are within His Knowledge, and He will requite them for their deeds).

Yusuf Ali

20 But Allah doth encompass them from behind!

Saheeh International

21 But this is an honored Qur'an

21 Nay! This is a Glorious Qur'an,

Yusuf Ali

21 Nay, this is a Glorious Qur'an,

22 [Inscribed] in a Preserved Slate.

22 (Inscribed) in Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz (The Preserved Tablet)!

22 (Inscribed) in a Tablet Preserved!
