The Prophet frowned and turned away
Er blickte düster und kehrte sich ab,
He frowned and turned (his) back,
Chapter 80, 42 verses
The Prophet frowned and turned away
Er blickte düster und kehrte sich ab,
He frowned and turned (his) back,
Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting].
weil der Blinde zu ihm kam.
Because there came to him the blind man.
But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified
Was läßt dich wissen, vielleicht läutert er sich
And what would make you know that he would purify himself,
Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him?
Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him?
As for he who thinks himself without need,
As for him who considers himself free from need (of you),
To him you give attention.
so widmest du dich ihm,
To him do you address yourself.
And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified.
And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself
But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge]
And as to him who comes to you striving hard,
While he fears [Allah],
und dabei gottesfürchtig ist,
And he fears,
From him you are distracted.
von dem läßt du dich ablenken.
From him will you divert yourself.
No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder;
Keineswegs! Gewiß, es ist eine Erinnerung.
Nay! surely it is an admonishment.
So whoever wills may remember it.
Wer nun will, gedenkt seiner.
So let him who pleases mind it.
[It is recorded] in honored sheets,
(Er steht) auf in Ehren gehaltenen Blättern,
In honored books,
Exalted and purified,
erhöhten und rein gehaltenen,
Exalted, purified,
[Carried] by the hands of messenger - angels,
durch die Hände von Entsandten,
In the hands of scribes
Noble and dutiful.
edlen, frommen.
Noble, virtuous.
Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he.
Tod dem Menschen, wie undankbar er ist!
Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he!
From what substance did He create him?
Woraus hat Er ihn erschaffen?
Of what thing did He create him?
From a sperm - drop He created him and destined for him;
Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure,
Then He eased the way for him;
Den Weg hierauf macht Er ihm leicht.
Then (as for) the way - - He has made it easy (for him)
Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him.
Hierauf läßt Er ihn sterben und bringt ihn dann ins Grab.
Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave,
Then when He wills, He will resurrect him.
Hierauf, wenn Er will, läßt Er ihn auferstehen.
Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again.
No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him.
Keineswegs!
Nay; but he has not done what He bade him.
Then let mankind look at his food -
Then let man look to his food,
How We poured down water in torrents,
Wir gießen ja Güsse von Wasser,
That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance,
Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts],
Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder,
And caused to grow within it grain
und lassen dann auf ihr Korn wachsen
Then We cause to grow therein the grain,
And grapes and herbage
und Rebstöcke und Grünzeug
And grapes and clover,
And olive and palm trees
und Ölbäume und Palmen
And the olive and the palm,
And gardens of dense shrubbery
und Gärten mit dicken Bäumen
And thick gardens,
And fruit and grass -
und Früchte und Futter,
And fruits and herbage
[As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock.
A provision for you and for your cattle.
But when there comes the Deafening Blast
Wenn dann der betäubende (Schrei) kommt,
But when the deafening cry comes,
On the Day a man will flee from his brother
The day on which a man shall fly from his brother,
And his mother and his father
und seiner Mutter und seinem Vater
And his mother and his father,
And his wife and his children,
und seiner Gefährtin und seinen Söhnen
And his spouse and his son - -
For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him.
Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him.
[Some] faces, that Day, will be bright -
(Many) faces on that day shall be bright,
Laughing, rejoicing at good news.
lachen und sich freuen.
Laughing, joyous.
And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust.
And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust,
Blackness will cover them.
und sie werden von Dunkelheit bedeckt sein.
Darkness shall cover them.
Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones.
Das sind die Ungläubigen und Sittenlosen.
These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked.
