Saheeh International

1 By those [winds] sent forth in gusts

1 In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. By the emissary winds, (sent) one after another

Yusuf Ali

1 By the (Winds) sent forth one after another (to man's profit);

Saheeh International

2 And the winds that blow violently

Pickthall

2 By the raging hurricanes,

Yusuf Ali

2 Which then blow violently in tempestuous Gusts,

Saheeh International

3 And [by] the winds that spread [clouds]

Pickthall

3 By those which cause earth's vegetation to revive;

Yusuf Ali

3 And scatter (things) far and wide;

Saheeh International

4 And those [angels] who bring criterion

Pickthall

4 By those who winnow with a winnowing,

Yusuf Ali

4 Then separate them, one from another,

Saheeh International

5 And those [angels] who deliver a message

Pickthall

5 By those who bring down the Reminder,

Yusuf Ali

5 Then spread abroad a Message,

Saheeh International

6 As justification or warning,

Pickthall

6 To excuse or to warn,

Yusuf Ali

6 Whether of Justification or of Warning; -

Saheeh International

7 Indeed, what you are promised is to occur.

Pickthall

7 Surely that which ye are promised will befall.

Yusuf Ali

7 Assuredly, what ye are promised must come to pass.

Saheeh International

8 So when the stars are obliterated

Pickthall

8 So when the stars are put out,

Yusuf Ali

8 Then when the stars become dim;

Saheeh International

9 And when the heaven is opened

Pickthall

9 And when the sky is riven asunder,

Yusuf Ali

9 When the heaven is cleft asunder;

Saheeh International

10 And when the mountains are blown away

Pickthall

10 And when the mountains are blown away,

Yusuf Ali

10 When the mountains are scattered (to the winds) as dust;

Saheeh International

11 And when the messengers' time has come...

Pickthall

11 And when the messengers are brought unto their time appointed -

Yusuf Ali

11 And when the messengers are (all) appointed a time (to collect); -

Saheeh International

12 For what Day was it postponed?

Pickthall

12 For what day is the time appointed ?

Yusuf Ali

12 For what Day are these (portents) deferred?

Saheeh International

13 For the Day of Judgement.

Pickthall

13 For the Day of Decision.

Yusuf Ali

13 For the Day of Sorting out.

Saheeh International

14 And what can make you know what is the Day of Judgement?

14 And what will convey unto thee what the Day of Decision is! -

Yusuf Ali

14 And what will explain to thee what is the Day of Sorting out?

Saheeh International

15 Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

15 Woe unto the repudiators on that day!

Yusuf Ali

15 Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!

Saheeh International

16 Did We not destroy the former peoples?

16 Destroyed We not the former folk,

Yusuf Ali

16 Did We not destroy the men of old (for their evil)?

Saheeh International

17 Then We will follow them with the later ones.

Pickthall

17 Then caused the latter folk to follow after ?

Yusuf Ali

17 So shall We make later (generations) follow them.

Saheeh International

18 Thus do We deal with the criminals.

Pickthall

18 Thus deal We ever with the guilty.

Yusuf Ali

18 Thus do We deal with men of sin.

Saheeh International

19 Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

Pickthall

19 Woe unto the repudiators on that day!

Yusuf Ali

19 Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!

Saheeh International

20 Did We not create you from a liquid disdained?

Pickthall

20 Did We not create you from a base fluid

Yusuf Ali

20 Have We not created you from a fluid (held) despicable? -

Saheeh International

21 And We placed it in a firm lodging

Pickthall

21 Which We laid up in a safe abode

Yusuf Ali

21 The which We placed in a place of rest, firmly fixed,

Saheeh International

22 For a known extent.

Pickthall

22 For a known term ?

Yusuf Ali

22 For a period (of gestation), determined (according to need)?

Saheeh International

23 And We determined [it], and excellent [are We] to determine.

Pickthall

23 Thus We arranged. How excellent is Our arranging!

Yusuf Ali

23 For We do determine (according to need); for We are the best to determine (things).

Saheeh International

24 Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

Pickthall

24 Woe unto the repudiators on that day!

Yusuf Ali

24 Ah woe, that Day! to the Rejecters of Truth!

Saheeh International

25 Have We not made the earth a container

Pickthall

25 Have We not made the earth a receptacle

Yusuf Ali

25 Have We not made the earth (as a place) to draw together.

Saheeh International

26 Of the living and the dead?

Pickthall

26 Both for the living and the dead,

Yusuf Ali

26 The living and the dead,

Saheeh International

27 And We placed therein lofty, firmly set mountains and have given you to drink sweet water.

Pickthall

27 And placed therein high mountains and given you to drink sweet water therein ?

Yusuf Ali

27 And made therein mountains standing firm, lofty (in stature); and provided for you water sweet (and wholesome)?

Saheeh International

28 Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

Pickthall

28 Woe unto the repudiators on that day!

Yusuf Ali

28 Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!

Saheeh International

29 [They will be told], "Proceed to that which you used to deny.

Pickthall

29 (It will be said unto them:) Depart unto that (doom) which ye used to deny;

Yusuf Ali

29 (It will be said:) "Depart ye to that which ye used to reject as false!

Saheeh International

30 Proceed to a shadow [of smoke] having three columns

Pickthall

30 Depart unto the shadow falling threefold,

Yusuf Ali

30 "Depart ye to a Shadow (of smoke ascending) in three columns,

Saheeh International

31 [But having] no cool shade and availing not against the flame."

Pickthall

31 (Which yet is) no relief nor shelter from the flame.

Yusuf Ali

31 "(Which yields) no shade of coolness, and is of no use against the fierce Blaze.

Saheeh International

32 Indeed, it throws sparks [as huge] as a fortress,

Pickthall

32 Lo! it throweth up sparks like the castles,

Yusuf Ali

32 "Indeed it throws about sparks (huge) as Forts,

Saheeh International

33 As if they were yellowish [black] camels.

Pickthall

33 (Or) as it might be camels of bright yellow hue.

Yusuf Ali

33 "As if there were (a string of) yellow camels (marching swiftly)."

Saheeh International

34 Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

Pickthall

34 Woe unto the repudiators on that day!

Yusuf Ali

34 Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!

Saheeh International

35 This is a Day they will not speak,

Pickthall

35 This is a day wherein they speak not,

Yusuf Ali

35 That will be a Day when they shall not be able to speak.

Saheeh International

36 Nor will it be permitted for them to make an excuse.

Pickthall

36 Nor are they suffered to put forth excuses.

Yusuf Ali

36 Nor will it be open to them to put forth pleas.

Saheeh International

37 Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

Pickthall

37 Woe unto the repudiators on that day!

Yusuf Ali

37 Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!

Saheeh International

38 This is the Day of Judgement; We will have assembled you and the former peoples.

Pickthall

38 This is the Day of Decision, We have brought you and the men of old together.

Yusuf Ali

38 That will be a Day of Sorting out! We shall gather you together and those before (you)!

Saheeh International

39 So if you have a plan, then plan against Me.

Pickthall

39 If now ye have any wit, outwit Me.

Yusuf Ali

39 Now, if ye have a trick (or plot), use it against Me!

Saheeh International

40 Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

Pickthall

40 Woe unto the repudiators on that day!

Yusuf Ali

40 Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!

Saheeh International

41 Indeed, the righteous will be among shades and springs

Pickthall

41 Lo! those who kept their duty are amid shade and fountains,

Yusuf Ali

41 As to the Righteous, they shall be amidst (cool) shades and springs (of water).

Saheeh International

42 And fruits from whatever they desire,

Pickthall

42 And fruits such as they desire.

Yusuf Ali

42 And (they shall have) fruits, - all they desire.

Saheeh International

43 [Being told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do."

Pickthall

43 (Unto them it is said:) Eat, drink and welcome, O ye blessed, in return for what ye did.

Yusuf Ali

43 "Eat ye and drink ye to your heart's content: for that ye worked (Righteousness).

Saheeh International

44 Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.

Pickthall

44 Thus do We reward the good.

Yusuf Ali

44 Thus do We certainly reward the Doers of Good.

Saheeh International

45 Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

Pickthall

45 Woe unto the repudiators on that day!

Yusuf Ali

45 Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!

Saheeh International

46 [O disbelievers], eat and enjoy yourselves a little; indeed, you are criminals.

Pickthall

46 Eat and take your ease (on earth) a little. Lo! ye are guilty.

Yusuf Ali

46 (O ye unjust!) Eat ye and enjoy yourselves (but) a little while, for that ye are Sinners.

Saheeh International

47 Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

Pickthall

47 Woe unto the repudiators on that day!

Yusuf Ali

47 Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!

Saheeh International

48 And when it is said to them, "Bow [in prayer]," they do not bow.

Pickthall

48 When it is said unto them: Bow down, they bow not down!

Yusuf Ali

48 And when it is said to them, "Prostrate yourselves!" they do not so.

Saheeh International

49 Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

49 Woe unto the repudiators on that day!

Yusuf Ali

49 Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!

50 Then in what statement after the Qur'an will they believe?

50 In what statement, after this, will they believe ?

50 Then what Message, after that, will they believe in?
