(The Prophet) frowned and turned away,
AAabasa watawalla
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. (The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم) frowned and turned away.
Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting).
An jaahu alaAAma
Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs).
But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)? -
Wama yudreeka laAAallahu yazzakka
And how can you know that he might become pure (from sins)?
Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him?
Aw yaththakkaru fatanfaAAahu alththikra
Or he might receive admonition, and the admonition might profit him?
As to one who regards Himself as self - sufficient,
Amma mani istaghna
As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient,
To him dost thou attend;
Faanta lahu tasadda
To him you attend;
Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding).
Wama AAalayka alla yazzakka
What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief: you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah).
But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly,
Waamma man jaaka yasAAa
But as to him who came to you running,
And with fear (in his heart),
Wahuwa yakhsha
And is afraid (of Allah and His punishment).
Of him wast thou unmindful.
Faanta AAanhu talahha
Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another,
By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction:
Kalla innaha tathkiratun
Nay, (do not do like this); indeed it (this Qur'an) is an admonition.
Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance.
Faman shaa thakarahu
So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it.

From what stuff hath He created him?
Min ayyi shayin khalaqahu
From what thing did He create him?
From a sperm - drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions;
Min nutfatin khalaqahu faqaddarahu
From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him and then set him in due proportion.
Then doth He make His path smooth for him;
Thumma alssabeela yassarahu

By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him.
Kalla lamma yaqdi ma amarahu
Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him.

Then when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the second blowing of the Trumpet on the Day of Resurrection)
That Day shall a man flee from his own brother,
Yawma yafirru almaro min akheehi
That Day shall a man flee from his brother,
And from his mother and his father,
Waommihi waabeehi
And from his mother and his father,
And from his wife and his children.
Wasahibatihi wabaneehi
And from his wife and his children.
Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others.
