Chapter 38, 88 verses
Sad: By the Qur'an, Full of Admonition: (This is the Truth).
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ ص ۚ وَالْقُرْآنِ ذِي الذِّكْرِ
সোয়াদ; কসম উপদেশপূর্ণ কুরআনের।
But the Unbelievers (are steeped) in self - glory and Separatism.
بَلِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا فِي عِزَّةٍ وَشِقَاقٍ
বস্তুত কাফিররা আত্মম্ভরিতা ও বিরোধিতায় রয়েছে।
How many generations before them did We destroy? In the end they cried (for mercy) - when there was no longer time for being saved!
كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَبْلِهِم مِّن قَرْنٍ فَنَادَوا وَّلَاتَ حِينَ مَنَاصٍ
তাদের পূর্বে আমি কত প্রজন্মকে ধ্বংস করেছি; তখন তারা আর্তচিৎকার করেছিল, কিন্তু তখন পলায়নের কোন সময় ছিল না।
So they wonder that a Warner has come to them from among themselves! and the Unbelievers say, "This is a sorcerer telling lies!
وَعَجِبُوا أَن جَاءَهُم مُّنذِرٌ مِّنْهُمْ ۖ وَقَالَ الْكَافِرُونَ هَٰذَا سَاحِرٌ كَذَّابٌ
আর তারা বিস্মিত হল যে, তাদের কাছে তাদের মধ্য থেকেই একজন সতর্ককারী এসেছে এবং কাফিররা বলে, ‘এ তো যাদুকর, মিথ্যাবাদী’।
"Has he made the gods (all) into one Allah? Truly this is a wonderful thing!"
أَجَعَلَ الْآلِهَةَ إِلَٰهًا وَاحِدًا ۖ إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَشَيْءٌ عُجَابٌ
‘সে কি সকল উপাস্যকে এক বানিয়ে নিয়েছে? নিশ্চয় এ তো এক আশ্চর্য বিষয়’!
And the leader among them go away (impatiently), (saying), "Walk ye away, and remain constant to your gods! For this is truly a thing designed (against you)!
وَانطَلَقَ الْمَلَأُ مِنْهُمْ أَنِ امْشُوا وَاصْبِرُوا عَلَىٰ آلِهَتِكُمْ ۖ إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَشَيْءٌ يُرَادُ
আর তাদের প্রধানরা চলে গেল একথা বলে যে, ‘যাও এবং তোমাদের উপাস্যগুলোর উপর অবিচল থাক। নিশ্চয় এ বিষয়টি উদ্দেশ্য প্রণোদিত’।
"We never heard (the like) of this among the people of these latter days: this is nothing but a made - up tale!"
مَا سَمِعْنَا بِهَٰذَا فِي الْمِلَّةِ الْآخِرَةِ إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا اخْتِلَاقٌ
আমরা তো সর্বশেষ ধর্মে এমন কথা শুনিনি*। এটা তো বানোয়াট কথা ছাড়া আর কিছু নয়। * তাদের জন্য সর্বশেষ ধর্ম ছিল খৃস্টধর্ম। কারো কারো মতে তা ছিল কুরাইশদের ধর্ম।
"What! has the Message been sent to him - (Of all persons) among us?"... but they are in doubt concerning My (Own) Message! Nay, they have not yet tasted My Punishment!
أَأُنزِلَ عَلَيْهِ الذِّكْرُ مِن بَيْنِنَا ۚ بَلْ هُمْ فِي شَكٍّ مِّن ذِكْرِي ۖ بَل لَّمَّا يَذُوقُوا عَذَابِ
‘আমাদের মধ্য থেকে তার উপরই কি কুরআন নাযিল করা হল’? বরং তারা আমার কুরআনের ব্যাপারে সন্দেহে রয়েছে। বরং তারা এখনও আমার আযাব আস্বাদন করেনি।
Or have they the treasures of the mercy of thy Lord, - the Exalted in Power, the Grantor of Bounties without measure?
أَمْ عِندَهُمْ خَزَائِنُ رَحْمَةِ رَبِّكَ الْعَزِيزِ الْوَهَّابِ
তাদের কাছে কি তোমার রবের রহমতের ভান্ডার রয়েছে যিনি মহাপরাক্রমশালী, অসীম দাতা।
Or have they the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all between? If so, let them mount up with the ropes and means (to reach that end)!
أَمْ لَهُم مُّلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ۖ فَلْيَرْتَقُوا فِي الْأَسْبَابِ
অথবা আসমান ও যমীন এবং এ দু’য়ের মধ্যে যা আছে তার মালিকানা কি তাদের? তাহলে তারা আরোহণ করুক (আসমানে উঠার) কোন উপায় অবলম্বন করে।
But there - will be put to flight even a host of confederates.
جُندٌ مَّا هُنَالِكَ مَهْزُومٌ مِّنَ الْأَحْزَابِ
এ বাহিনী তো সেখানে* পরাজিত হবে (পূর্ববর্তী) দলসমূহের মত। * هناك দ্বারা মক্কার প্রতি ইঙ্গিত করা হয়েছে। কারো কারো মতে বদর দিবসের দিকে ইঙ্গিত করা হয়েছে।
Before them (were many who) rejected messengers, - the people of Noah, and 'Ad, and Pharaoh, the Lord of Stakes,
كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ وَعَادٌ وَفِرْعَوْنُ ذُو الْأَوْتَادِ
তাদের পূর্বেও অস্বীকার করেছিল নূহের কওম, আদ ও বহু অট্টালিকার অধিপতি ফির‘আউন,
And Thamud, and the people of Lut, and the Companions of the Wood; - such were the Confederates.
وَثَمُودُ وَقَوْمُ لُوطٍ وَأَصْحَابُ الْأَيْكَةِ ۚ أُولَٰئِكَ الْأَحْزَابُ
সামূদ, কওমে লূত ও আইকার অধিবাসীরা। এরাই ছিল (নবীদের বিরুদ্ধাচরণকারী) দলসমূহ ।
Not one (of them) but rejected the messengers, but My punishment came justly and inevitably (on them).
إِن كُلٌّ إِلَّا كَذَّبَ الرُّسُلَ فَحَقَّ عِقَابِ
প্রত্যেকেই তো রাসূলদেরকে অস্বীকার করেছিল। ফলে আমার আযাব অবধারিত হয়েছিল।
These (today) only wait for a single mighty Blast, which (when it comes) will brook no delay.
وَمَا يَنظُرُ هَٰؤُلَاءِ إِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَاحِدَةً مَّا لَهَا مِن فَوَاقٍ
আর এরা তো কেবল একটি বিকট আওয়াজের অপেক্ষা করছে যাতে কোন বিরাম থাকবে না।
They say: "Our Lord! hasten to us our sentence (even) before the Day of Account!"
وَقَالُوا رَبَّنَا عَجِّل لَّنَا قِطَّنَا قَبْلَ يَوْمِ الْحِسَابِ
আর তারা বলে, হে ‘আমাদের রব, হিসাব দিবসের আগেই আমাদের প্রাপ্য আমাদেরকে তাড়াতাড়ি দিয়ে দিন’।
Have patience at what they say, and remember our servant David, the man of strength: for he ever turned (to Allah).
اصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَاذْكُرْ عَبْدَنَا دَاوُودَ ذَا الْأَيْدِ ۖ إِنَّهُ أَوَّابٌ
তারা যা বলে সে ব্যাপারে তুমি ধৈর্যধারণ কর এবং আমার শক্তিশালী বান্দা দাঊদকে স্মরণ কর; সে ছিল অধিক অভিমুখী।
It was We that made the hills declare, in unison with him, Our Praises, at eventide and at break of day,
إِنَّا سَخَّرْنَا الْجِبَالَ مَعَهُ يُسَبِّحْنَ بِالْعَشِيِّ وَالْإِشْرَاقِ
আমি পর্বতমালাকে অনুগত করেছিলাম, তার সাথে এগুলো সকাল-সন্ধ্যায় আমার তাসবীহ পাঠ করত।
And the birds gathered (in assemblies): all with him did turn (to Allah).
وَالطَّيْرَ مَحْشُورَةً ۖ كُلٌّ لَّهُ أَوَّابٌ
আর সমবেত পাখীদেরকেও (অনুগত করেছিলাম); প্রত্যেকেই ছিল অধিক অভিমুখী।
We strengthened his kingdom, and gave him wisdom and sound judgment in speech and decision.
وَشَدَدْنَا مُلْكَهُ وَآتَيْنَاهُ الْحِكْمَةَ وَفَصْلَ الْخِطَابِ
আর আমি তার রাজত্বকে সুদৃঢ় করেছিলাম এবং তাকে প্রজ্ঞা ও ফয়সালাকারী বাগ্মিতা দিয়েছিলাম।
Has the Story of the Disputants reached thee? Behold, they climbed over the wall of the private chamber;
۞ وَهَلْ أَتَاكَ نَبَأُ الْخَصْمِ إِذْ تَسَوَّرُوا الْمِحْرَابَ
তোমার কাছে কি বিবদমান লোকদের সংবাদ এসেছে? যখন তারা প্রাচীর ডিঙিয়ে মিহরাবে আসল।
When they entered the presence of David, and he was terrified of them, they said: "Fear not: we are two disputants, one of whom has wronged the other: Decide now between us with truth, and treat us not with injustice, but guide us to the even Path..
إِذْ دَخَلُوا عَلَىٰ دَاوُودَ فَفَزِعَ مِنْهُمْ ۖ قَالُوا لَا تَخَفْ ۖ خَصْمَانِ بَغَىٰ بَعْضُنَا عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ فَاحْكُم بَيْنَنَا بِالْحَقِّ وَلَا تُشْطِطْ وَاهْدِنَا إِلَىٰ سَوَاءِ الصِّرَاطِ
যখন তারা দাঊদের কাছে প্রবেশ করল, তখন সে তাদের ভয় পেয়ে গেল। তারা বলল ‘আপনি ভয় করবেন না, আমরা বিবদমান দু’পক্ষ। আমাদের একে অন্যের উপর সীমালঙ্ঘন করেছে। অতএব আপনি আমাদের মধ্যে ন্যায়বিচার করুন, অবিচার করবেন না। আর আমাদেরকে সরল পথের নির্দেশনা দিন’।
"This man is my brother: He has nine and ninety ewes, and I have (but) one: Yet he says, 'commit her to my care,' and is (moreover) harsh to me in speech."
إِنَّ هَٰذَا أَخِي لَهُ تِسْعٌ وَتِسْعُونَ نَعْجَةً وَلِيَ نَعْجَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ فَقَالَ أَكْفِلْنِيهَا وَعَزَّنِي فِي الْخِطَابِ
‘নিশ্চয় এ আমার ভাই। তার নিরানব্বইটি ভেড়ী আছে, আর আমার আছে মাত্র একটা ভেড়ী। তবুও সে বলে, ‘এ ভেড়ীটিও আমার তত্ত্বাবধানে দিয়ে দাও’, আর তর্কে সে আমার উপর প্রাধান্য বিস্তার করেছে’।
(David) said: "He has undoubtedly wronged thee in demanding thy (single) ewe to be added to his (flock of) ewes: truly many are the partners (in business) who wrong each other: Not so do those who believe and work deeds of righteousness, and how few are they?"... and David gathered that We had tried him: he asked forgiveness of his Lord, fell down, bowing (in prostration), and turned (to Allah in repentance).
قَالَ لَقَدْ ظَلَمَكَ بِسُؤَالِ نَعْجَتِكَ إِلَىٰ نِعَاجِهِ ۖ وَإِنَّ كَثِيرًا مِّنَ الْخُلَطَاءِ لَيَبْغِي بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ وَقَلِيلٌ مَّا هُمْ ۗ وَظَنَّ دَاوُودُ أَنَّمَا فَتَنَّاهُ فَاسْتَغْفَرَ رَبَّهُ وَخَرَّ رَاكِعًا وَأَنَابَ ۩
দাঊদ বলল, ‘তোমার ভেড়ীকে তার ভেড়ীর পালের সাথে যুক্ত করার দাবী করে সে তোমার প্রতি যুলম করেছে। আর শরীকদের অনেকেই একে অন্যের উপর সীমলঙ্ঘন করে থাকে। তবে কেবল তারাই এরূপ করে না যারা ঈমান আনে এবং নেক আমল করে’। আর এরা সংখ্যায় খুবই কম। আর দাঊদ জানতে পারল যে, আমি ত
So We forgave him this (lapse): he enjoyed, indeed, a Near Approach to Us, and a beautiful place of (Final) Return.
فَغَفَرْنَا لَهُ ذَٰلِكَ ۖ وَإِنَّ لَهُ عِندَنَا لَزُلْفَىٰ وَحُسْنَ مَآبٍ
তখন আমি তাকে তা ক্ষমা করে দিলাম। আর অবশ্যই আমার কাছে তার জন্য রয়েছে নৈকট্য ও উত্তম প্রত্যাবর্তনস্থল।
O David! We did indeed make thee a vicegerent on earth: so judge thou between men in truth (and justice): Nor follow thou the lusts (of thy heart), for they will mislead thee from the Path of Allah: for those who wander astray from the Path of Allah, is a Penalty Grievous, for that they forget the Day of Account.
يَا دَاوُودُ إِنَّا جَعَلْنَاكَ خَلِيفَةً فِي الْأَرْضِ فَاحْكُم بَيْنَ النَّاسِ بِالْحَقِّ وَلَا تَتَّبِعِ الْهَوَىٰ فَيُضِلَّكَ عَن سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَضِلُّونَ عَن سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ شَدِيدٌ بِمَا نَسُوا يَوْمَ الْحِسَابِ
(হে দাঊদ), নিশ্চয় আমি তোমাকে যমীনে খলীফা বানিয়েছি, অতএব তুমি মানুষের মধ্যে ন্যায়বিচার কর আর প্রবৃত্তির অনুসরণ করো না, কেননা তা তোমাকে আল্লাহর পথ থেকে বিচ্যুত করবে। নিশ্চয় যারা আল্লাহর পথ থেকে বিচ্যুত হয় তাদের জন্য কঠিন আযাব রয়েছে। কারণ তারা হিসাব দিবসকে ভ
Not without purpose did We create heaven and earth and all between! that were the thought of Unbelievers! but woe to the Unbelievers because of the Fire (of Hell)!
وَمَا خَلَقْنَا السَّمَاءَ وَالْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا بَاطِلًا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ظَنُّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا ۚ فَوَيْلٌ لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنَ النَّارِ
আর আসমান, যমীন এবং এ দু’য়ের মধ্যে যা আছে তা আমি অনর্থক সৃষ্টি করিনি। এটা কাফিরদের ধারণা, সুতরাং কাফিরদের জন্য রয়েছে জাহান্নামের দুর্ভোগ।
Shall We treat those who believe and work deeds of righteousness, the same as those who do mischief on earth? Shall We treat those who guard against evil, the same as those who turn aside from the right?
أَمْ نَجْعَلُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ كَالْمُفْسِدِينَ فِي الْأَرْضِ أَمْ نَجْعَلُ الْمُتَّقِينَ كَالْفُجَّارِ
যারা ঈমান আনে ও নেক আমল করে আমি কি তাদেরকে যমীনে বিপর্যয় সৃষ্টিকারীদের সমতুল্য গণ্য করব? নাকি আমি মুত্তাকীদেরকে পাপাচারীদের সমতুল্য গণ্য করব?
(Here is) a Book which We have sent down unto thee, full of blessings, that they may mediate on its Signs, and that men of understanding may receive admonition.
كِتَابٌ أَنزَلْنَاهُ إِلَيْكَ مُبَارَكٌ لِّيَدَّبَّرُوا آيَاتِهِ وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ أُولُو الْأَلْبَابِ
আমি তোমার প্রতি নাযিল করেছি এক বরকতময় কিতাব, যাতে তারা এর আয়াতসমূহ নিয়ে গভীরভাবে চিন্তা করে এবং যাতে বুদ্ধিমানগণ উপদেশ গ্রহণ করে।
To David We gave Solomon (for a son), - How excellent in Our service! Ever did he turn (to Us)!
وَوَهَبْنَا لِدَاوُودَ سُلَيْمَانَ ۚ نِعْمَ الْعَبْدُ ۖ إِنَّهُ أَوَّابٌ
আর আমি দাঊদকে দান করলাম সুলাইমান। সে কতই না উত্তম বান্দা! নিঃসন্দেহে সে ছিল অতিশয় অভিমুখী।
Behold, there were brought before him, at eventide coursers of the highest breeding, and swift of foot;
إِذْ عُرِضَ عَلَيْهِ بِالْعَشِيِّ الصَّافِنَاتُ الْجِيَادُ
যখন তার সামনে সন্ধ্যাবেলায় পেশ করা হল দ্রুতগামী উৎকৃষ্ট ঘোড়াসমূহ।
And he said, "Truly do I love the love of good, with a view to the glory of my Lord," - until (the sun) was hidden in the veil (of night):
فَقَالَ إِنِّي أَحْبَبْتُ حُبَّ الْخَيْرِ عَن ذِكْرِ رَبِّي حَتَّىٰ تَوَارَتْ بِالْحِجَابِ
তখন সে বলল, ‘আমি তো আমার রবের স্মরণ থেকে বিমুখ হয়ে ঐশ্বর্যের প্রেমে মগ্ন হয়ে পড়েছি, এদিকে সূর্য পর্দার আড়ালে চলে গেছে।* * অর্থাৎ সূর্য ডুবে গেছে।
"Bring them back to me." then began he to pass his hand over (their) legs and their necks.
رُدُّوهَا عَلَيَّ ۖ فَطَفِقَ مَسْحًا بِالسُّوقِ وَالْأَعْنَاقِ
এগুলো আমার কাছে ফিরিয়ে আন। অতঃপর সে এগুলোকে পা ও গলদেশ দিয়ে যবেহ করা শুরু করল।* * সুলাইমান আ. জিহাদের জন্য পালিত এসব ঘোড়া কোন এক বিকালে পরিদর্শন করতে গিয়ে অনেক কাল ক্ষেপণ করেন এবং এদিকে সূর্য ডুবে যায়। ফলে ঘোড়ার কারণে আল্লাহর যিকর থেকে এত দীর্ঘ সময় বিরত
And We did try Solomon: We placed on his throne a body (without life); but he did turn (to Us in true devotion):
وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا سُلَيْمَانَ وَأَلْقَيْنَا عَلَىٰ كُرْسِيِّهِ جَسَدًا ثُمَّ أَنَابَ
আর আমি তো সুলাইমানকে পরীক্ষা করেছিলাম এবং তার সিংহাসনের উপর রেখেছিলাম একটি দেহ*, অতঃপর সে আমার অভিমুখী হল। * আবু হুরাইরা সূত্রে বুখারী শরীফের বর্ণনা মতে হযরত সুলাইমান একদা তাঁর সকল স্ত্রীর সাথে সহবাস করার দীপ্ত কামনা ব্যক্ত করে বলেন যে, এর ফলে তাদের গর্ভ
He said, "O my Lord! Forgive me, and grant me a kingdom which, (it may be), suits not another after me: for Thou art the Grantor of Bounties (without measure).
قَالَ رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَهَبْ لِي مُلْكًا لَّا يَنبَغِي لِأَحَدٍ مِّن بَعْدِي ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ الْوَهَّابُ
সুলাইমান বলল, ‘হে আমার রব, আমাকে ক্ষমা করুন এবং আমাকে এমন এক রাজত্ব দান করুন যা আমার পর আর কারও জন্যই প্রযোজ্য হবে না। নিশ্চয়ই আপনি বড়ই দানশীল।
Then We subjected the wind to his power, to flow gently to his order, Whithersoever he willed, -
فَسَخَّرْنَا لَهُ الرِّيحَ تَجْرِي بِأَمْرِهِ رُخَاءً حَيْثُ أَصَابَ
ফলে আমি বায়ুকে তার অনুগত করে দিলাম যা তার আদেশে মৃদুমন্দভাবে প্রবাহিত হত, যেখানে সে পৌঁছতে চাইত।
As also the evil ones, (including) every kind of builder and diver, -
وَالشَّيَاطِينَ كُلَّ بَنَّاءٍ وَغَوَّاصٍ
আর (অনুগত করে দিলাম) প্রত্যেক প্রাসাদ নির্মাণকারী ও ডুবুরী শয়তান [জিন] সমূহকেও
As also others bound together in fetters.
وَآخَرِينَ مُقَرَّنِينَ فِي الْأَصْفَادِ
আর শেকলে আবদ্ধ আরও অনেককে।
"Such are Our Bounties: whether thou bestow them (on others) or withhold them, no account will be asked."
هَٰذَا عَطَاؤُنَا فَامْنُنْ أَوْ أَمْسِكْ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ
এটি আমার অনুগ্রহ। অতএব তুমি এটি অন্যের জন্য খরচ কর অথবা নিজের জন্য রেখে দাও, এর কোন হিসাব দিতে হবে না।
And he enjoyed, indeed, a Near Approach to Us, and a beautiful Place of (Final) Return.
وَإِنَّ لَهُ عِندَنَا لَزُلْفَىٰ وَحُسْنَ مَآبٍ
আর আমার নিকট রয়েছে তার জন্য নৈকট্য ও শুভ পরিণাম।
Commemorate Our Servant Job. Behold he cried to his Lord: "The Evil One has afflicted me with distress and suffering!"
وَاذْكُرْ عَبْدَنَا أَيُّوبَ إِذْ نَادَىٰ رَبَّهُ أَنِّي مَسَّنِيَ الشَّيْطَانُ بِنُصْبٍ وَعَذَابٍ
আর স্মরণ কর আমার বান্দা আইউবকে, যখন সে তার রবকে ডেকে বলেছিল, ‘শয়তান তো আমাকে কষ্ট ও আযাবের ছোঁয়া দিয়েছে’।
(The command was given:) "Strike with thy foot: here is (water) wherein to wash, cool and refreshing, and (water) to drink."
ارْكُضْ بِرِجْلِكَ ۖ هَٰذَا مُغْتَسَلٌ بَارِدٌ وَشَرَابٌ
[আমি বললাম], ‘তুমি তোমার পা দিয়ে (ভূমিতে) আঘাত কর, এ হচ্ছে গোসলের সুশীতল পানি আর পানীয়’।
And We gave him (back) his people, and doubled their number, - as a Grace from Ourselves, and a thing for commemoration, for all who have Understanding.
وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُ أَهْلَهُ وَمِثْلَهُم مَّعَهُمْ رَحْمَةً مِّنَّا وَذِكْرَىٰ لِأُولِي الْأَلْبَابِ
আর আমার পক্ষ থেকে রহমতস্বরূপ ও বুদ্ধিমানদের জন্য উপদেশস্বরূপ আমি তাকে দান করলাম তার পরিবার-পরিজন ও তাদের সাথে তাদের অনুরূপ অনেককে।
"And take in thy hand a little grass, and strike therewith: and break not (thy oath)." Truly We found him full of patience and constancy. How excellent in Our service! ever did he turn (to Us)!
وَخُذْ بِيَدِكَ ضِغْثًا فَاضْرِب بِّهِ وَلَا تَحْنَثْ ۗ إِنَّا وَجَدْنَاهُ صَابِرًا ۚ نِّعْمَ الْعَبْدُ ۖ إِنَّهُ أَوَّابٌ
আর তুমি তোমার হাতে এক মুঠো তৃণলতা নাও এবং তা দিয়ে আঘাত কর। আর কসম ভংগ করো না। নিশ্চয় আমি তাকে ধৈর্যশীল পেয়েছি। সে কতই না উত্তম বান্দা! নিশ্চয়ই সে ছিল আমার অভিমুখী।
And commemorate Our Servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, possessors of Power and Vision.
وَاذْكُرْ عِبَادَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ أُولِي الْأَيْدِي وَالْأَبْصَارِ
আর স্মরণ কর আমার বান্দা ইবরাহীম, ইসহাক ও ইয়া‘কূবকে। তারা ছিল শক্তিমান ও সূক্ষ্মদর্শী।
Verily We did choose them for a special (purpose) - proclaiming the Message of the Hereafter.
إِنَّا أَخْلَصْنَاهُم بِخَالِصَةٍ ذِكْرَى الدَّارِ
নিশ্চয় আমি তাদেরকে বিশেষ করে পরকালের স্মরণের জন্য নির্বাচিত করেছিলাম।
They were, in Our sight, truly, of the company of the Elect and the Good.
وَإِنَّهُمْ عِندَنَا لَمِنَ الْمُصْطَفَيْنَ الْأَخْيَارِ
আর নিশ্চয় তারা ছিল আমার মনোনীত, সর্বোত্তম বান্দাদের অন্তর্ভুক্ত।
And commemorate Isma'il, Elisha, and Zul - Kifl: Each of them was of the Company of the Good.
وَاذْكُرْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ وَالْيَسَعَ وَذَا الْكِفْلِ ۖ وَكُلٌّ مِّنَ الْأَخْيَارِ
আরো স্মরণ কর ইসমাঈল, আল-ইয়াসা‘আ ও যুল-কিফলের কথা। এরা প্রত্যেকেই ছিল সর্বোত্তমদের অন্তর্ভুক্ত।
This is a Message (of admonition): and verily, for the righteous, is a beautiful Place of (Final) Return, -
هَٰذَا ذِكْرٌ ۚ وَإِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ لَحُسْنَ مَآبٍ
এটি এক স্মরণ, আর মুত্তাকীদের জন্য অবশ্যই রয়েছে উত্তম নিবাস-
Gardens of Eternity, whose doors will (ever) be open to them;
جَنَّاتِ عَدْنٍ مُّفَتَّحَةً لَّهُمُ الْأَبْوَابُ
চিরস্থায়ী জান্নাত, যার দরজাসমূহ থাকবে তাদের জন্য উন্মুক্ত।
Therein will they recline (at ease): Therein can they call (at pleasure) for fruit in abundance, and (delicious) drink;
مُتَّكِئِينَ فِيهَا يَدْعُونَ فِيهَا بِفَاكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ وَشَرَابٍ
সেখানে তারা হেলান দিয়ে আসীন থাকবে, সেখানে তারা বহু ফলমূল ও পানীয় চাইবে।
And beside them will be chaste women restraining their glances, (companions) of equal age.
۞ وَعِندَهُمْ قَاصِرَاتُ الطَّرْفِ أَتْرَابٌ
আর তাদের নিকটে থাকবে আনতনয়না সমবয়সীরা।
Such is the Promise made, to you for the Day of Account!
هَٰذَا مَا تُوعَدُونَ لِيَوْمِ الْحِسَابِ
হিসাব দিবস সম্পর্কে তোমাদেরকে এ ওয়াদাই দেয়া হয়েছিল।
Truly such will be Our Bounty (to you); it will never fail; -
إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَرِزْقُنَا مَا لَهُ مِن نَّفَادٍ
নিশ্চয় এটি আমার দেয়া রিয্ক, যা নিঃশেষ হবার নয়।
Yea, such! but - for the wrong - doers will be an evil place of (Final) Return! -
هَٰذَا ۚ وَإِنَّ لِلطَّاغِينَ لَشَرَّ مَآبٍ
এমনই, আর নিশ্চয় সীমালংঘনকারীদের জন্য রয়েছে নিকৃষ্টতম নিবাস।
Hell! - they will burn therein, - an evil bed (indeed, to lie on)! -
جَهَنَّمَ يَصْلَوْنَهَا فَبِئْسَ الْمِهَادُ
জাহান্নাম, তারা সেখানে অগ্নিদগ্ধ হবে। কতই না নিকৃষ্ট সে নিবাস!
Yea, such! - then shall they taste it, - a boiling fluid, and a fluid dark, murky, intensely cold! -
هَٰذَا فَلْيَذُوقُوهُ حَمِيمٌ وَغَسَّاقٌ
এমনই, সুতরাং তারা এটি আস্বাদন করুক, ফুটন্ত পানি ও পুঁজ।
And other Penalties of a similar kind, to match them!
وَآخَرُ مِن شَكْلِهِ أَزْوَاجٌ
আরও রয়েছে এ জাতীয় বহুরকম আযাব।
Here is a troop rushing headlong with you! No welcome for them! truly, they shall burn in the Fire!
هَٰذَا فَوْجٌ مُّقْتَحِمٌ مَّعَكُمْ ۖ لَا مَرْحَبًا بِهِمْ ۚ إِنَّهُمْ صَالُو النَّارِ
এই তো এক দল তোমাদের সাথেই প্রবেশ করছে, তাদের জন্য নেই কোন অভিনন্দন। নিশ্চয় তারা আগুনে জ্বলবে।
(The followers shall cry to the misleaders:) "Nay, ye (too)! No welcome for you! It is ye who have brought this upon us! Now evil is (this) place to stay in!"
قَالُوا بَلْ أَنتُمْ لَا مَرْحَبًا بِكُمْ ۖ أَنتُمْ قَدَّمْتُمُوهُ لَنَا ۖ فَبِئْسَ الْقَرَارُ
অনুসারীরা বলবে, ‘বরং তোমরাও, তোমাদের জন্যও তো নেই কোন অভিনন্দন। তোমরাই আমাদের জন্য এ বিপদ এনেছ। অতএব কতই না নিকৃষ্ট এ আবাসস্থল’!
They will say: "Our Lord! whoever brought this upon us, - Add to him a double Penalty in the Fire!"
قَالُوا رَبَّنَا مَن قَدَّمَ لَنَا هَٰذَا فَزِدْهُ عَذَابًا ضِعْفًا فِي النَّارِ
তারা বলবে, ‘হে আমাদের রব, যে আমাদের জন্য এ বিপদ এনেছে, জাহান্নামে তুমি তার আযাবকে দ্বিগুণ বাড়িয়ে দাও।’
And they will say: "What has happened to us that we see not men whom we used to number among the bad ones?
وَقَالُوا مَا لَنَا لَا نَرَىٰ رِجَالًا كُنَّا نَعُدُّهُم مِّنَ الْأَشْرَارِ
তারা আরো বলবে, ‘আমাদের কী হল যে, আমরা যাদের মন্দ গণ্য করতাম সে সকল লোককে এখানে দেখছি না।’
"Did we treat them (as such) in ridicule, or have (our) eyes failed to perceive them?"
أَتَّخَذْنَاهُمْ سِخْرِيًّا أَمْ زَاغَتْ عَنْهُمُ الْأَبْصَارُ
‘তবে কি আমরা তাদের ঠাট্টা-বিদ্রূপের পাত্র মনে করতাম, নাকি তাদের ব্যাপারে [আমাদের] দৃষ্টি বিভ্রম ঘটেছে’?
Truly that is just and fitting, - the mutual recriminations of the People of the Fire!
إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ لَحَقٌّ تَخَاصُمُ أَهْلِ النَّارِ
নিশ্চয়ই এটি সুনিশ্চিত সত্য- জাহান্নামীদের এই পারস্পরিক বাকবিতন্ডা।
Say: "Truly am I a Warner: no god is there but the one Allah, Supreme and Irresistible, -
قُلْ إِنَّمَا أَنَا مُنذِرٌ ۖ وَمَا مِنْ إِلَٰهٍ إِلَّا اللَّهُ الْوَاحِدُ الْقَهَّارُ
বল, ‘আমি তো একজন সতর্ককারী মাত্র। ছাড়া আর কোন (সত্য) নেই। যিনি এক, প্রবল প্রতাপশালী।’
"The Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all between, - Exalted in Might, able to enforce His Will, forgiving again and again."
رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا الْعَزِيزُ الْغَفَّارُ
আসমানসমূহ ও যমীন এবং এতদোভয়ের মধ্যস্থিত যা কিছু রয়েছে সব কিছুর রব তিনি। তিনি মহাপরাক্রমশালী, মহাক্ষমাশীল।
Say: "That is a Message Supreme (above all), -
قُلْ هُوَ نَبَأٌ عَظِيمٌ
বল, ‘এটি এক মহাসংবাদ’।
"From which ye do turn away!
أَنتُمْ عَنْهُ مُعْرِضُونَ
‘তোমরা তা থেকে বিমুখ হয়ে আছ।’
"No knowledge have I of the Chiefs on high, when they discuss (matters) among themselves.
مَا كَانَ لِيَ مِنْ عِلْمٍ بِالْمَلَإِ الْأَعْلَىٰ إِذْ يَخْتَصِمُونَ
‘ঊর্ধ্বলোক সম্পর্কে আমার কোন জ্ঞানই ছিল না যখন তারা বাদানুবাদ* করছিল’। * আদম আ. এর সৃষ্টির প্রাক্কালে ফেরেশতাদের মধ্যকার পারস্পরিক আলোচনার প্রতি ইঙ্গিত করা হয়েছে।
'Only this has been revealed to me: that I am to give warning plainly and publicly."
إِن يُوحَىٰ إِلَيَّ إِلَّا أَنَّمَا أَنَا نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ
আমার কাছে তো এ ওহীই আসে যে, আমি একজন স্পষ্ট সতর্ককারী মাত্র’।
Behold, thy Lord said to the angels: "I am about to create man from clay:
إِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلَائِكَةِ إِنِّي خَالِقٌ بَشَرًا مِّن طِينٍ
স্মরণ কর, যখন তোমার রব ফেরেশতাদের উদ্দেশ্যে বলেছিলেন, ‘আমি মাটি হতে মানুষ সৃষ্টি করব।’
"When I have fashioned him (in due proportion) and breathed into him of My spirit, fall ye down in obeisance unto him."
فَإِذَا سَوَّيْتُهُ وَنَفَخْتُ فِيهِ مِن رُّوحِي فَقَعُوا لَهُ سَاجِدِينَ
‘যখন আমি তাকে সুষম করব এবং তার মধ্যে আমার রূহ সঞ্চার করব, তখন তোমরা তার উদ্দেশ্যে সিজদাবনত হয়ে যাও’।
So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together:
فَسَجَدَ الْمَلَائِكَةُ كُلُّهُمْ أَجْمَعُونَ
ফলে ফেরেশতাগণ সকলেই সিজদাবনত হল।
Not so Iblis: he was haughty, and became one of those who reject Faith.
إِلَّا إِبْلِيسَ اسْتَكْبَرَ وَكَانَ مِنَ الْكَافِرِينَ
ইবলীস ছাড়া, সে অহঙ্কার করল এবং কাফিরদের অন্তর্ভুক্ত হয়ে পড়ল।
(Allah) said: "O Iblis! What prevents thee from prostrating thyself to one whom I have created with my hands? Art thou haughty? Or art thou one of the high (and mighty) ones?"
قَالَ يَا إِبْلِيسُ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَن تَسْجُدَ لِمَا خَلَقْتُ بِيَدَيَّ ۖ أَسْتَكْبَرْتَ أَمْ كُنتَ مِنَ الْعَالِينَ
বললেন, ‘হে ইবলীস, আমার দু’হাতে আমি যাকে সৃষ্টি করেছি তার প্রতি সিজদাবনত হতে কিসে তোমাকে বাধা দিল? তুমি কি অহঙ্কার করলে, না তুমি অধিকতর উচ্চ মর্যাদাসম্পন্ন?’
(Iblis) said: "I am better than he: thou createdst me from fire, and him thou createdst from clay."
قَالَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِّنْهُ ۖ خَلَقْتَنِي مِن نَّارٍ وَخَلَقْتَهُ مِن طِينٍ
সে বলল, ‘আমি তার চেয়ে শ্রেষ্ঠ। আপনি আমাকে সৃষ্টি করেছেন অগ্নি থেকে আর তাকে সৃষ্টি করেছেন মাটি থেকে।’
(Allah) said: "Then get thee out from here: for thou art rejected, accursed.
قَالَ فَاخْرُجْ مِنْهَا فَإِنَّكَ رَجِيمٌ
তিনি বললেন, ‘তুমি এখান থেকে বের হয়ে যাও। কেননা নিশ্চয় তুমি বিতাড়িত।
"And My curse shall be on thee till the Day of Judgment."
وَإِنَّ عَلَيْكَ لَعْنَتِي إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ الدِّينِ
আর নিশ্চয় বিচার দিবস পর্যন্ত তোমার প্রতি আমার লা‘নত বলবৎ থাকবে।
(Iblis) said: "O my Lord! Give me then respite till the Day the (dead) are raised."
قَالَ رَبِّ فَأَنظِرْنِي إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ
সে বলল, ‘হে আমার রব, আমাকে সে দিন পর্যন্ত অবকাশ দিন যেদিন তারা পুনরুত্থিত হবে।’
(Allah) said: "Respite then is granted thee -
قَالَ فَإِنَّكَ مِنَ الْمُنظَرِينَ
তিনি বললেন, আচ্ছা তুমি অবকাশপ্রাপ্তদের অন্তর্ভুক্ত হলে-
"Till the Day of the Time Appointed."
إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ الْوَقْتِ الْمَعْلُومِ
‘নির্ধারিত সময় উপস্থিত হওয়ার দিন পর্যন্ত।’
(Iblis) said: "Then, by Thy power, I will put them all in the wrong, -
قَالَ فَبِعِزَّتِكَ لَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ
সে বলল, ‘আপনার ইজ্জতের কসম! আমি তাদের সকলকেই বিপথগামী করে ছাড়ব।’
"Except Thy Servants amongst them, sincere and purified (by Thy Grace)."
إِلَّا عِبَادَكَ مِنْهُمُ الْمُخْلَصِينَ
তাদের মধ্য থেকে আপনার একনিষ্ঠ বান্দারা ছাড়া।
(Allah) said: "Then it is just and fitting - and I say what is just and fitting -
قَالَ فَالْحَقُّ وَالْحَقَّ أَقُولُ
বললেন, ‘এটি সত্য আর সত্য-ই আমি বলি’
"That I will certainly fill Hell with thee and those that follow thee, - every one."
لَأَمْلَأَنَّ جَهَنَّمَ مِنكَ وَمِمَّن تَبِعَكَ مِنْهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ
‘তোমাকে দিয়ে এবং তাদের মধ্যে যারা তোমার অনুসরণ করত তাদের দিয়ে নিশ্চয় আমি জাহান্নাম পূর্ণ করব।’
Say: "No reward do I ask of you for this (Qur'an), nor am I a pretender.
قُلْ مَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُتَكَلِّفِينَ
বল, ‘এর বিনিময়ে আমি তোমাদের কাছে কোন প্রতিদান চাই না আর আমি ভানকারীদের অন্তর্ভুক্ত নই।
"This is no less than a Message to (all) the Worlds.
إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِّلْعَالَمِينَ
সৃষ্টিকুলের জন্য এ তো উপদেশ ছাড়া আর কিছু নয়।
"And ye shall certainly know the truth of it (all) after a while."
وَلَتَعْلَمُنَّ نَبَأَهُ بَعْدَ حِينٍ
আর অল্পকাল পরে তুমি অবশ্যই এর সংবাদ জানবে।
