Yusuf Ali

1 Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)?

Saheeh International

1 Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]?

Yusuf Ali

2 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated,

Saheeh International

2 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled,

Yusuf Ali

3 Labouring (hard), weary, -

Saheeh International

3 Working [hard] and exhausted.

Yusuf Ali

4 The while they enter the Blazing Fire, -

Saheeh International

4 They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire.

Yusuf Ali

5 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring,

Saheeh International

5 They will be given drink from a boiling spring.

Yusuf Ali

6 No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari'

Saheeh International

6 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant

Yusuf Ali

7 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger.

Saheeh International

7 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger.

Yusuf Ali

8 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful,

Saheeh International

8 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure.

Yusuf Ali

9 Pleased with their striving, -

Saheeh International

9 With their effort [they are] satisfied

Yusuf Ali

10 In a Garden on high,

Saheeh International

10 In an elevated garden,

Yusuf Ali

11 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity:

Saheeh International

11 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech.

Yusuf Ali

12 Therein will be a bubbling spring:

Saheeh International

12 Within it is a flowing spring.

Yusuf Ali

13 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high,

Saheeh International

13 Within it are couches raised high

Yusuf Ali

14 Goblets placed (ready),

Saheeh International

14 And cups put in place

Yusuf Ali

15 And cushions set in rows,

Saheeh International

15 And cushions lined up

Yusuf Ali

16 And rich carpets (all) spread out.

Saheeh International

16 And carpets spread around.

Yusuf Ali

17 Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made? -

Saheeh International

17 Then do they not look at the camels - how they are created?

Yusuf Ali

18 And at the Sky, how it is raised high? -

Saheeh International

18 And at the sky - how it is raised?

Yusuf Ali

19 And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm? -

Saheeh International

19 And at the mountains - how they are erected?

Yusuf Ali

20 And at the Earth, how it is spread out?

Saheeh International

20 And at the earth - how it is spread out?

Yusuf Ali

21 Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish.

Saheeh International

21 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder.

Yusuf Ali

22 Thou art not one to manage (men's) affairs.

Saheeh International

22 You are not over them a controller.

Yusuf Ali

23 But if any turn away and reject Allah, -

Saheeh International

23 However, he who turns away and disbelieves -

Yusuf Ali

24 Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment,

Saheeh International

24 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment.

Yusuf Ali

25 For to Us will be their return;

Saheeh International

25 Indeed, to Us is their return.

Yusuf Ali

26 Then it will be for Us to call them to account.

Saheeh International

26 Then indeed, upon Us is their account.
