الضـحى

1 By the Glorious Morning Light,

1 In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. By the morning hours

2 And by the Night when it is still, -

2 And by the night when it is stillest,

3 Thy Guardian - Lord hath not forsaken thee, nor is He displeased.

3 Thy Lord hath not forsaken thee nor doth He hate thee,

4 And verily the Hereafter will be better for thee than the present.

4 And verily the latter portion will be better for thee than the former,

5 And soon will thy Guardian - Lord give thee (that wherewith) thou shalt be well - pleased.

5 And verily thy Lord will give unto thee so that thou wilt be content.

6 Did He not find thee an orphan and give thee shelter (and care)?

6 Did He not find thee an orphan and protect (thee) ?

7 And He found thee wandering, and He gave thee guidance.

7 Did He not find thee wandering and direct (thee) ?

8 And He found thee in need, and made thee independent.

8 Did He not find thee destitute and enrich (thee) ?

9 Therefore, treat not the orphan with harshness,

9 Therefor the orphan oppress not,

10 Nor repulse the petitioner (unheard);

10 Therefor the beggar drive not away,

11 But the bounty of the Lord - rehearse and proclaim!

11 Therefor of the bounty of thy Lord be thy discourse.
